I agree. I once found an old soldering gun in my garage and it didnt work worth a crap. I now have a 23W Weller deal I got about 5 years ago at home depot for <$20. It does take about 5 minutes to heat up, but it gets the job done. _________________

..not to mention expensive....
i think i said it before but i grabbed my ('pencil style') dual temperature (10w and 30w) soldering iron for 10 bucks at radio shack... _________________

If it looks like we'll really be in the market in another 6 or 7 months, I'll definitely consider investing in a soldering station, as well as a bandsaw and some patents and licenses. _________________

patents cost like $10000.
on the other hand, a bandsaw would be a nice investment _________________

$250 for a commercial design.
I've actually checked that.
But I'm much more interested in a bandsaw; I prefer to rely on people not being idiots than relying on the law to get what I want/deserve. _________________

Sounds like you're talking about just patenting the way it looks... I was thinking of a utility patent for the construction design. But yeah... theres really no point in patenting it if you arent trying to make a profit in the first place. Getchyerself a nice bandsaw instead. _________________

Current progress
i realised ive never posted my progress in picture form on my pad. its following riptide's design, moving along a little slowly. if you look closely you can see i need to redo the wood corner braces there, theyre a bit too small. ive happy with it so far though, just wish i had more time highres versions of the pics are in the highres folder in case you couldnt figure it out _________________

Hey devout, I really like your pad design. I didn't read your whole instructions but how exactly do your contacts work? Also, you could add a frame around the front and sides of the pad (1/2" on each side shoudl be fine ) and lead the wiring through it so you don't have to just wrap along the bottom. I suggest housing the control pad too just in case something spills on it or even steps on it. An old plastic vhs case might do the trick. |

I bought 8 sensors from MyMyBox about a month or so ago for use in my overhaul of my SOLOMODE 2200 pad (By overhaul I mean ripping the pad apart and making a new one from the ground up while recycling parts), and I was wondering, given the cost of the sensors, if the longevity is going to be reasonable.
I play on heavy mostly, between 7s and 9s with few at or above level 10 songs, and plan once this overhaul is done to progress to 11s, and 12s. I do not excessively stomp either, which should be a plus. How long will these grey sensors last? I play 5 - 7 days of the week for an hour eash day.
I hope these sensors under these conditions last me a decent ammount of time, at $160 for 8 it's expensive.
EDIT: I can and will post pictures of progress so far, and from this point on of the project if one is curious. _________________

They should last a while, They are the SAME thing that the arcade uses, As long as you don't wire them improperly ( can you? O.o) they should last years |

hey guys, huge update for me
first to answer a question,
as for the sensors: i'd imagine they would last years. i mean, they last a long time in the arcades, and they get excessive use.
now on to me!
okay, well i finally got my pad working great. i got a few AAs, as did my friend.
i have a video, but my friend took it so i'll have to get that from him and post it on my site
and for my tutorial...I UPLOADED IT!
yeah, that's right; it's uploaded...i just need to get pics
i figured that i at least could start it and get some feedback/suggestions/improvements/spelling mistakes while i'm at it
well, here's the link www.ddr.animearchivez.com
**REMEMBER** i only uploaded it for the DDR PAD section, so the cab setup sucks right now
ALSO, i know there are plenty of pics missing (especially the wiring section)
last thing, i took apart my bro's old pad i built for him and i'm going to remake it mostly like mine (minus the bar probably) _________________

first week usin the pad. its prety awsome. passed all the important 11's lol and delirium and tell. had to adjust screws a little bit cuz sometimes it would misfire and stuff. now its all good. probly shouldv gone with the matrix sensors but riptides sensor design with sheet metal and screws is essentially the same concept so *frick it lol. ill update with pics once i find my camera wire
