For some reason, it's funny to me that they got the buttons right (the yellow and green ones).

I loved that part, but I would've loved it more if they actually got rights to play a DDR song. More funny if it was something like MaxX Unlimited expert with Peter almost dying or something.

Okay, so on Saturday I was volunteering at Sakura Matsuri, the massive Japanese street festival in DC. I was working in J-Pop Land, at the Experience J-Pop tent, sponsored by Amway of Japan, supported by the Japanese embassy, and supplied somewhat by Katsucon's guys. Specifically, I was working the DDR setups, where they had Max 2 and Supernova. Here are the sorts of things I had to deal with:

-Rain. You see, we had a tent, but our tent was set up so that the TV's faced out, and the pads (CF's by the way) were not covered by the tent. When it started raining a bit, we whipped out our towels and wiped the pads down. Eventually, that became insufficient. We ended up shifting some stuff around in the tent and moving the DDR setup entirely inside the tent. Suddenly, with the cramped space, it went from, as I observed, "Experience J-Pop" to "Experience the Japanese Apartment." One of our pads would still die on us before the day was out.

-Drunk people. We were mere feet away from one of the beer gardens. You figure it out.

-Mod addicts. Sure, they're good players, but guess who had to clean up the mess before the two newbs behind them hopped on? Me.

-People who just didn't get it. They watch the little tutorial that plays before Beginner mode. They have the dancer onscreen, and see the steps pointed out. Yet they still jump around like epileptic monkeys on trampolines perched on power lines during an earthquake, and they wonder why the game keeps telling them they're messing up. I mean, I work retail, so I make a point of never showing frustration (or for that matter, fear), but at that point I was thinking, "Oh boy, this is gonna be a long day."

I don't understand what you're saying about mod addicts. E19.gif

It's nice that DDR was being showcased at such an event, though.

I'm fine with mods. I use them myself. AT HOME. Here, after they got off, I had to go in myself and flip them off (which is really a pain in Supernova) before the next pair got on. About 85% of the people who came up played Beginner.

You say "at home" like mods used on arcade carry over from one play to the next, which they don't.

We *were* using the home editions, should have made that clearer.

I wasn't talking about that, I was talking about how you emphasized "at home".

All I mean is at home as opposed to playing a home version in public with crowds of newbie players behind you, waiting to play.

I understand what RBCF retunes is saying, I'm trying to understand what you mean by " I have to turn the mods off that people on beginner were playing with" but you shouldn't have to, the mods don't carry on from one round to another.

Well, our school plays this show, Channel One. Really stupid... Anyway they had this report on games that are physicly active, so im like cool DDR. But then it comes on and shows two 7 year old girls playing on KO Pads on Begginer mode on the easiest song in the game. My friends knew that I played it but they never saw it or anything so im just pissed of now and all my friends kept on reminding me of it for about a week after. Great, now any chance of me getting my friends to play DDR is shattered.

If you can, show them this:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=Hppkn_RknD4

Anybody who doesn't actually play the game is going to have the wrong idea and then give everybody that impression.
