1. Physical Interactiveness.
It's one of the few videogame activities that involves your body physically. Essentially, it's the first "mainstream" Virtual Reality game, in a sense.
2. Social Interactiveness.
I'll admit, one BIG reason I started playing more and more is that the nature of coin lines in arcades led many DDRgamers in town to associate with one another and become familar. Arcadewise, it's a good fix when you want some company, -and- it's a good excuse to invite company over (trading edits, etc.).
3. BALANCING IT WITH OTHER GAMES/ACTIVITIES.
This is why -I- can play for so many years (8 this June!), and still enjoy it, as opposed to those who burn themselves out on it. I play other kinds of games, and do other hobbies, and try to cut myself to 3-4 days p/wk of playing DDR.
4. Not taking it too seriously.
Really. I don't -need- my 34 "AAA"s, they just kinda happened. I don't overfocus on scoring/"AAA everything", and I'm not afraid to show off a little on HVY/CHG stages (or even in ONI mode, for that matter!), so long as I won't flail out and hit another player or something!
I've made a couple of girlfriends via "the DDR club", including my current AAA-squeeze. We'll put LGT charts on Normal/Mirror or Left/Right, turn off freezes, and run circles around each other doing crossover-charts. Yes, even though I can pass 10's, I -still- can have fun with LGTs, too.
(For those that want DDR-loving GF's: )
DDR'ing in front of a girl, maybe being a little sweaty -can- be a -good- thing. The "hard part" is, though - between songs/games, you should try TALKING WITH THEM, too. You'd be surprized at how easy it is to start a conversation, especially with "another person"... talk to them as if they're "a person" and not "a girl", and you're 90% of the way to "the w!n".
Get them into the game. Encourage them to at least try an EASY song. Scroll through the tracklist, and show them that it's not "made just for guys, here". On the 3rd song, pick something 170-BPM or higher and watch them freak.
Finally, don't be afraid to be teasy or a bit dirty, but not -directly at- them (IE: Make fun of a girly habit you catch them DOING, but not necessarily by making fun of THEM), and remember, it's only a GOOD joke if it's MORE FUNNY than it is hurtful. And don't be afraid to shoot your own foot of a time or two for them, as well. |

Well I play for fun, good exercise, and the thrill...
I just feel this need to get better. Just to push my self to go beyond... I really wanna knock out pretty much all the 10's in the game and hopefully by the summer i can beat FELM and/or FaxX... I just want to get better and be one of the good players in NYC _________________

Because it is pure fun. It's one of my favorite video games and it's more active and it's very good excercise! _________________

It's fun. It has seemingly endless challenges (although I suppose someone could theoretically AAA every song on every difficulty level with all combinations of any sets of mods/etc and perfectly clear all other modes)
It works on both mind and body and I like that a lot. Most exercise is boring and mind-numbing because you aren't required to really do any/much thinking with it. DDR forces you to think. Most things which require thought don't involve any physical aspect. DDR does both.
It also improves your rhythm abilities. _________________
