Ok. I'm performing DDR for my schools varity show and to spread the word about it. So my question is this. What song from SuperNOVA should I do? I'm using NOVA 'cause that's all I've got to choose from. But any suggestions would be greatly welcome, so thatnks in advance. riiight.gif

...I second that question.... and answer.
E4.gif

If your main objective is to get others interested in playing, (rather than just amazing them) .... pick a song that most people LIKE to listen to. As a Didder you know that sometimes cruddy songs have really fun steps ... but for on-lookers, you're better off choosing a tune they can all get jiggy with. . . . even if you don't particularly care for the steps yourself.

I would quadstar PSMO Heavy on 8x reverse cel boost mirror dark!

..
Go for something impressive but not insane, since most people will probably just end up shaking their heads sadly and talking about how stupid DDR is if you play a really intense song. If you're on SuperNOVA, I might recommend Flow -true style-, or Xepher perhaps.

Still, if what you're going for is "HOLY CRAP THAT WAS RIDICULOUS!@$!%" then yeah, play LoM or MaxX or something over the top like that.

Red Zone.

You can impress people playing anything on DDR. I remember when I first started DDRing I thought my brother was the best player in the world because he could clear Groove 2001 on Light. You don't need to play a 10 to make others' jaws drop.

Unless you're really trying to dazzle them with your skill, don't do anything too complicated.
I was under the impression that you were trying to turn people on to the game. If you do something too intense they will think they don't stand a chance.... and give up before they even start.

First off, when you want to play to entertain, you are not picking songs you may necessarily feel like playing; it's all about picking the catchiest, easily-coherent music that has an impressive stepchart that obviously follows the beat/melody of the music.
Usually the straight-up techno isn't going to thrill a general audience since it is usually an acquired taste to those new to it, unless you pick it as your last song. That way they're more willing to give it a chance after already-seeing how more pleasntly-sounding dancey songs work with the game.

Anyway, progression of intensity is the best way to keep the audience interested. Start with a simpler song and gradually get harder. Keep the audience guessing at how far you will go, and how the game could get any more "complex" than it already is.

The same idea goes toward the type of music you pick. The catchiest should be first as to quickly get them excited about DDR. Letting them know from the beginning that this is a very general audience friendly game and not a foriegn, silly japanese music-laden game that is too strange to consider will make them more likely to consider other aspects of the game. More serious and obscure of music (a.k.a. japanese songs and techno-ish stuff) should be done for your final songs, as they usually have charts that show off the technical aspects of DDR anyway...and will ultimately reflect musical variety.

Other than that, I can suggest songs all day, but it will do me no good if you don't tell us how good you are at DDR in general. Do you play on heavy mode all the time? Can you pass a 10-footer? What's the hardest song you can do? etc etc etc.

Ok.... based on what I've seen I'm gonna chose from these:
Max300
Xepher
Flow[true Style]

OR
Chaos

But I'm not exactly the greatest, though I have AAA'ed a 6 footer. But I want them to go like " OMG, THAT WAS SO AMAZING1!!!!!1" or something along those lines. But I'm leaning towards Max cause' I like it a lot. But any chance of being able to unlock it in about 2 days? But yeah that's about all I can think of right now.

EDIT: I've only got about 2 mins. to work with so I want to get a heavy-hitting, knock em' dead astonished sort of thing.

Don't choose any of the boss songs since people would be likely to think all hard songs are gimmicky.

I'd recommend HVAM. MAKE SURE YOUR FULL COMBO IT. A full combo on HVAM, mixed with the fact that the song has good auditory appeal for a large, diverse group, looks really good.

I find that most people at my school (1500) are impressed by any combo over 200, as long as there are quick notes. The stop wakes people up too, as long as you get a perfect on the step immediately after it. I helped with a DDR contest at my school. I basically had to pick 6 songs to impress people with and play them as people came in and again as they left. My songs:
-HVAM
-Xepher (Challenge)
-Max 300
-So Deep ~Perfect Sphere Remix~
-DoLL (Challenge)
-Orion.78 (Civ mix)

I'd go for MAX300, which is fast, impressive, fun, and not quite as intense as most of the other classic boss songs, so you've got a good chance at scoring very high on it, which will also help impress your ddr-illiterate audience (ooh he got an A, that's really good I think!!)

SMMM? That song is intense, if your talking the original mix, he only has SN, I think Red Zone is a pretty catchy song. I don't know about where you live, but fallout boy might capture there attention. If you do end it with FAXX or something, don't step off if you get tired, just BS it, they won't know you didn't fail if you turn fail off. E10.gif

AAA's look good, period. If you AAA something with 8th notes with Marvs off, you'll be considered a god, no questions asked.

Seriously, I got about 400 people cheering for me when I got 2 greats on Shining Polaris. They're more impressed by speed than technique. Also, if you freestyle to something, they'll think you're psychic or have just memorised the song, even if it's just hands, knees, and spins.
