Creating the club is easy once you do it, but lord it's complicated the first time. All the back-and-forth and it's all in engrish x_x
But SoCal is up, I am polling for names and such from the players out here as of now! _________________

Saturday we were at D&Bs in westbury ny and man we had a great time.
My 10 yr old brother was having a blast and met a lot of players. They were so impressed with how well he plays. It was nice meeting everyone and hope to see you again soon. _________________

I bought a ex2 new from an online dealer(yeah 7k)
but as far as I know the new boxes(upgrade kits) are as much as 1.5k(I think they are just selling you a computer with bigger amps maybe?), nx I think uses mk6 and 7 boxes (from their official site specs?)
I think an ex2 uses an mk5 and 6 boxes.(can't tell which mine is)
but yeah 2-3k(for used) plus another 1.5k for an upgrade sounds good to me too!
Yeah I wanted a zero kit when it first dropped, but couldn't afford it and lost interest. but nx is talking to me real loud. _________________

Congrats and welcome to the club. Exceed 2 is one of the best mixes. I think it blows Zero out of the water. If your X2 has a MK6 board then all you should need for NX is the hard drive+key, which should run about a grand. I upgraded my Prem 2 to NX and the board I got was a MK6 (apparently only the FX cabinets have the MK7 board).
I'm not sure how to tell a MK5 from a MK6, but if your board looks a helluva lot like a modern PC (including USB and ethernet ports) then you might have a MK6.
Oh, and if you get NX and don't want to wade through the insanity that is World Tour just to unlock songs that you've already purchased, I can help you unlock everything. |

I just started playing a few days ago, and I must say that Beethoven Virus Hard is the most fun I've had in a long time. Those spins are so cool to do for a crowd.
Also, I dunno about you guys, but I seem to prefer reading at faster speeds on PiU than on say ITG or DDR. Are the speeds any differently paced than on 4 panel? |

I could be wrong here, but it seems to me that higher BPMs would feel slower on PIU than on 4 panel because the arrows on 5 panel are smaller compared to those on 4 panel. So it is kind of like when you have mini on. They are going the same speed, but you can see them on the screen longer since they have further to travel. |

So. I started playing Pump at my friend's house about a month and a half ago. Since I've been playing DDR for almost 3.5 years, it only took me that night into the morning to pass Dignity crazy on his modded softpad. Now I've grown to like Pump much more than DDR and slightly more than ItG. A mall near me has a Zero machine with crap pads and an overpriced machine, but it's ok for about a half hour of play. I'm trying to unlock everything on the home version, which is becoming increasingly annoying, but at least I'm getting the experience.
This brings me to my question. I'm not sure which topic this should have been posted in (a new one in BC or in the existing one here), but in any case, did any of you mod your home softpad? If so, how? I can't take the slipping and sliding of the official softpad. I was bummed that my CF didn't work with it, so now I'm itching to get it modded. I get bads on wayyy too many steps. >_>
I can't wait to get to play on a good Exceed 2 machine near me tomorrow. And if I get a Pump: Pro machine near me, I just might die... _________________

Yeah I noticed this aswell I can no bar Moonlight at 4x Speed and its 170 and when I play something around that speed on ITG 4x (destiny?) I have to bar it and I have alot less time to react. _________________

Methinks you should play an NX in addition to Pro... since Pro and the official PIU mixes are different from each other. Pro isn't the worldwide PIU standard machine... _________________

PIU pro = the homo-ness, no offense to any homos, NX is where its at...hey since pro is in beta testing does that mean theres a chance that they might bring back a few old songs or maybe take requests of songs to be added (hoping for them to replace ITG crap with good korean songs by koo jun yup)

I know, but since I'm big on ItG, I think it'd be cool to get a Pro machine, so I can play all my favorite ItG songs with 5 panels. _________________

Never said you play ONLY Pro or ONLY NX But definitely make sure to play NX as well... there's a lot of greatness in that mix (just be wary of the boss songs, unless you're pretty confident in your strengths), since PIU NX is the newest iteration of the series. _________________

Hmm...i would love to have a PIU Pro near me, and i also laugh at those who prejudge it negatively...unless it is because they dont like pump...because i laugh at them for not liking pump...
Also, Cobalt Flux + PIU for PS2 = Comatable or not? _________________

Cobalt Flux needs a different control box other than the one it comes with, because it will NOT work out of the box with PIU Exceed SE.
Anyway, so I don't have to reiterate, the reason many PIU players (as in people who enjoy PIU) can be seen in the early pages of the thread in this forum:
http://www.ph-online.net/cgi-bin/ib3/ikonboard.cgi?s=126b68ceddbbf3577fb3272df0c6b472;act=NW;f=20;t=6702
Parse through those pages and you'll see why...
In other news, I played NX not too long ago and must say that it exceeded my initial expectations. _________________

i love PIU but i think pro looks like absolute trash....the interface alone makes me wanna vomit.
then i saw the half assed BG videos and the lame step charts(o, and the song "radius" reminds me of a little game made by konami called "gradius'" music. konami will sue worthy, no?). but really, i mostly do freestyle+crazy in PIU, and the freestyle charts have disapointed me thus far. _________________

Anyway, I went to a place called Woodie Woodchucks (similar to Chuck-E-Cheese's), to play Pump it Up (it was an Exceed 2 machine) at the arcade for the first time, and I have to say - I really didn't enjoy it that much. =\
Sure, 33 cents a game was pretty alright but the pads seemed sensitive in menus and everything, but when I played - I seemed to get random misses and everything. (Probably because I wasn't stepping right though because I don't play PIU...=\) I also felt that the bar positioning/grip was really uncomfortable because I had to stretch right out to get the UL and UR panels.
Also, I had no idea if I had passed a song or not because I could have sworn my life bar was 100% down, yet I got an A at the results screen. =\
Pump it Up is confusing... |

I bet that part of the whole "random miss" thing came from not knowing how Pump grades freezes. In PIU, the freezes themselves are broken down into steps, meaning that you have to keep your foot on the arrow for the ENTIRE DURATION of the step, or else you get a miss. Or 40.
Haha @ the UL/UR thing. I noticed that too. I take it thats the reason its uncommon to see Pumpers bar raping the easier NM songs, since theres just too much outward motion if you have shorter legs. In my humblest of opinions, I find its a pretty fair trade since the timing windows in Pump are far wider than in DDR or ITG.
The Fail -> A thing comes from an option in PIU called "Stage Break." When Stage Break is off, that means that the game will not end when your lifebar hits 0%, and you can continue to play and get graded and move on to the next song. However, if you miss 50 steps (atleast in Zero) in a row or get an F as the final grade, the round is over.
Hope that helps |
