I get some looks when I play, but I just ignore it. I'm probably the heaviest person in my class, but I'm also the best at DDR in the entire school. People are just dumbstruck when they see 280 lbs moving with such speed and accuracy.

How would you treat someone who has a mild disability like high functioning autism who was a really good player. I know someone who is but no one else knows he is. He is just a little akward when he speaks to people but other than that he is just fine. But I wonder if people would treat him the same if they knew.

That's a mental condition, which has nothing to do with this thread.

The whole point of this thread is to talk about overweight people, not really discrimination in general.

"erm ... ddr discrimination?"

Topic title constitutes a more broad subject than fatness. Would you prefer the guy make another thread? I wouldn't.

Actually, lots of DDR players have Aspie or other high-functioning autism. But that's a condition that works well with the game, while obesity would inhibit you.

I also have Asperger's. Nobody ever discriminates against us AFAIK.

Really? Well to be quite honest my son has pdd and people are always impressed at how well he plays because he is so young. Some of the kids he meets (most older than he is) always stop and talk to him and have always treated him so nice. Then there are maybe one or two who will look at him a little strange because he might say something out of context or make a funny face. I just always worry about what young people like yourselves might think if I said he was autistic especially if they don't know what autism is. He is very high functioning and most times you wouldn't even notice but if you spend enough time with him you might say hmmm what's with this kid? I think he is a great kid and he is lots of fun to be around. I just feel like I always have to protect him so I kind of try to give him his space but I always feel a need to watch over him. He is only 10 though.

Autism is actually something to be proud of. When he's a bit older, you might think the same.

Oh don't get me wrong. I am very proud of him. I just don't want him to get hurt. I know some kids who have already called him weird to his face in school and I think it hurts me more than it does him. I just wish kids weren't so cruel these days. I know I can't protect him from everything but I will try for as long as I can.

Yeah im a big person too and i get looks alot. Iv'e faced some dicrimination before. i guess some people just can't except the fact that some bigger people are better than thinner people. i weigh nearly 240 pounds and im in my mid 14's and im the DDR champ at my school 2 years undefeated. ive seen like 400 pound dudes play heavy on DDR. But i dont let that get to me though, i just say "whatever" and move on with my life.

I don't know why, but I thought this information was hilarious in the way it was presented.

That may be what motivates you to do well.

Actually, one of the huge positive effects of Autism is that you become extremely good at things you do well. For me, it's music. =)

Well for my son it's been ddr and math. He is great at both. I also wonder what other hidden talents he may have.
