My pad's design and construction is now officially complete, but now ive got a block:
How do polish up the design and finish it up.
Right now its a a bare wooden structure with puzzle-foam pieces as cushioning (i want to have the arrows very easy to remove, and have two sets, an "arcade" set, with plexiglas and decals, and a "home" set, which is just the puzzle piece.)
How should I finish up the stationary and border panels?
Im considering getting some vinyl diamond-plate, it looks awesome and on ebay its cheap-cheap-cheep. Specifically, im thinking of the metallic purple one, its not a girly or gay purple, but its the "futuristic" and "techno" purple.
I do not want to try with flashing, it is a bit hard for me, unles i try it the "stoli" method with scoring it, but still flashing is relatively expensive. |

Show me what you're talking about. All the diamond plate I've been able to find is crap. _________________

it looks cool, but if you put that on your pad, wouldnt that make you NOT slide around on the pad when thats kind of the point?
anyway, it really looks cool. i may have to find some of that and put it on my ddr cab..maybe on the front part that isnt painted

i dont know if that vinyl stuff would hold up under people wearing shoes... it says its 3mil, which is only as thick as a piece of paper. Not really sure what makes it "long life"... That, and it's vinyl... why not just use sheet steel like everyone else? It has such a satisfying clank when you step on it
If you do use the vinyl you might want to wrap it all the way around the edges of the panels and staple it to the bottom with a staple gun... that way theres no exposed edges where it can peel up. (Kind of like the old tutorial for covering a softpad with carpet protector |

OH MY GOD.
I thought of two great places for it on my stepmania machine: the steps and the shelf-like things on either side of the screen. _________________

oh, follow up... on one of the product descriptions he says: "Please note, this is decorative vinyl, while the "diamonds" are embossed into the plastic, they do NOT stick up, out, or in, to an appreciatable amount. it would not improve traction if applied to flooring" (sweet)
but then he also says "nor would I expect it to survive wear and tear in a floor application." (boooo)
This isnt the "long-life" one, but they're the same thickness and same material... soooooo yeah, stick to cabinets and such |
