I recently bought the DX Sparkle Dance Pad Bundle (VG-DDR-DXCS2) from Buy N Shop.
They worked great for about 4 hours then both stopped working.
My wife and I played on the mats about an hour a day, every other day, and we stored the mats upright in the closet between sessions.
Last Monday we tried hooking them up and they were both non-responsive.
It seems wierd that they would both stop working at the same time, but I can't think of anything that we could have done to make them stop working.
I tried using Buy N Shop's RMA form, I tried emailing them and I tried calling them (the phone just rang and rang).
I was wondering if anyone else on here has had problems with the DX pads and if anyone has had problems contacting Buy N Shop?
I'm okay with returning my pads for another pair (I'll admit, I've gotten dead-on-arrival pads before in the past), but I'm not okay with a company that's not willing (or able) to get in touch with me and leaving me with $130.00 paper weights...

I received this private message from Yukkell today too. Wanted to make sure it was visible for others to read.

Wanted to let you know that we had the same problem, I think, with a Sparkle pad I got for my daughter. USB connection became completely unresponsive after a few days of working fine. It could have been static electricity maybe?. Anyway, keep trying to call Buynshop. They do answer the phone sometimes. We were able to get through to them on a few occasions, but other times the phone just rang & rang like you said. Seems that they do not have an answering machine. They did not respond to any emails (???) that we sent them. their are some posts on this newsgroup that indicate that their customer service blows. Anyway, when we were able to get through to them, they suggested that we either send the defective mat back to them (Which we did) or purchase a PS2 adapter and use the PS2 connection on the pad, since the USB was apparently dead. We sent the pad back for repair a few weeks ago. We called them tonight to see if they ever received it, and they told us that a replacement had been mailed to us and we should be receiving it sometime this week. We'll see.... |
Thanks for the info, revenGmyass and Yukkell2007. I'll call them again this week. I'll make sure to update this thread with my story. Buy N Shop can either redeem themselves or get some negative publicity to their target demographic.

I got ahold of Buy N Shop today. The rep was pleasant to deal with...a little too pleasant. He seemed completely baffled that their email and RMA form didn't receive my messages.
He pretty much interrogated me on the pads; how were they stored, was water spilled on them, were the cords folded up, were they stored in direct sunlight, etc etc...
At the end of the conversation when I asked if their was a history with this model of pads, he said it's very uncommon, but they do have issues with the cord coming apart from the control box (at the front of the pad).
He said we could just send back the covers (no need to send the foam thru the mail) and that he would try to put through my replacement order so that it ships tonight to Fedex.
I'll keep you all posted on what happens.

I did notice that these pads build up quite a bit of static electricity on the bottom when played on a carpet. I took a dryer sheet (Bounce) and wiped the bottom of the pad, and that seemed to cut the static electricity down considerably... |

We live in a townhouse in Indiana, and in the winter the dry air inside the house with the carpet makes for some good static electricity.

its not ridiculous bns said that that is a flaw especially with the sparkle but also with the fusion with the ps2 adapter you just plug in both to the ps2 they have a usb adapter on the ps2! unless you tried it on a different system and it didn't work then yeah i would assume it is a doa _________________

Well, I sent the pads out at the end of January and didn't hear anything back.
My wife has been pushing on me to call them, but we kept forgetting until today.
Finally called BNS and suprisingly they picked up on the 2nd ring! It was the same voice I got before so I'm guessing they're not that big of a company.
He told me they tried emailing me last week (no email found in spam filter or in inbox) and that one of the pads didn't work and was valid for replacement, but that the other pad had signs of the cord being pulled out of the pad at the dance mat side.
Either the cord got pulled when the pads were shipped back or they're lying about the status of the pad because both were in mint condition when I sent them.
Regardless, he said that they would check the shop to see if they had a working replacement pad that they could send for that one so that I could get two pads back.

Ugh...I've had similar issues with this company. My parents bought me the soft Fusion pad for Christmas, and for a couple of weeks the pad worked really well and I was happy; however, shortly after that the pad was no longer recognized by the PS2 as a valid controller, so after failing to get an RMA number via the website we called the company.
It took a couple of calls to get them on the line, but when we got them, they told us to send the pad back in order to get a replacement - they were going to make sure if it worked or not though. So we sent the pad back. After 2-3 weeks, we started growing impatient and called the company again. As it turned out, they had the boxed pad lying around the office and didn't even do anything with it. They said they would wait for "their supervisor" to check out the pad, who was at lunch at the time (3:00 Lunch apparently).
After another 2 weeks (today) I finally got another pad. But guess what? I got two of the same type of insert. There is one on the top that is supposed to slip under the top controller thing on the pad, another that connects to that in the middle, and another that connects to the middle on the bottom. I'm pretty sure (as I recall from the last one) that they're all supposed to be different but fit together. I got two of the top inserts, and needless to say it doesn't necessarily fit the way it should.
Now my parents and I are really frustrated by this company. We called today and no one answered the phone after about 10-11 rings. I looked on DDRFreak and heard this was a really good pad. The customer service is rather terrible and the pad is nice - for as long as it works.
I guess I should have expected worse when the pad came with instructions that aren't even written in coherent English, the company is certainly not reputable... |
