I've been working on the first prototype, but money's really holding me back.

I'm almost done with the base, but I don't have anything for the sensors or panels yet. I might just slap on some old tx1000 panels and use a couple sheets of tin foil for the sensors, then test it for one song (getting a vid) and take pics.
Just to give a general idea of what it is.
I'll try to pick up some lexan and sheet steel when I have the money, but I tend to be pretty much dirt poor from December to June every year.

If anyone wants to transfer a few dollars to my paypal ([email protected]), I will be eternally grateful, and I'll punch Steve if he refuses to give you discount prices. E15.gif
I'll keep a history of anyone who does contribute money, and knock it off any DTG purchases plus, say 10% interest.
So, if you donate $100, we'll knock $110 of any compilation of future purchases. We'll also worship you like a god.

Yes, at this point, I'm pretty much just asking to borrow a couple bucks as a friend, nothing formal. Then, I'll use my executive power to get you discounts reflecting what you lend me.

Donation-free, I can't guarantee to have anything ready to go for a pretty long time.
Prototypes don't pay for themselves, and I'm jobless until further notice. =(
Hopefully Steve will get that job at Jack-in-the-Box and help out in paying for the prototypes.
But even if so, it could still take a while.

Maybe I'll try my hand as a street musician for a while. xD

To end this message, I'd like to personally apologise for the delay. I recently indulged about $40 in myself with no consideration of the people I had waiting for me to finish that prototype. That was entirely an irresponsible and thoughtless move on my part, and I hope I'll make more considerate decisions in the future.

UPDATE:
We're taking a step back on gaming.

The RAVE project can be expected in it's full glory around 2014.

Rave 16 should be available in summer 2008.

We're going to make the RAVE Project in small parts.
Starting with the basic, 16-panel dance game portion.
I did some chatting with a friend, and he helped me realise that trying to make it all at once was foolhardy.

He pointed out that NO programmer would be up to it, and he's right. Rave 16 should be available for PC and Mac with 200+ songs, just for starters.
We should be able to make a PS2 version and a XBox360 version too.

We'll make a beta version available via flash on our website if we can.

-TOFU

PS:
The base of the DT600 prototype is almost done.
Sorry it's taking forever. frown.gif

The only way konami can't sue them is if it's free, like SM. That or wait 'till DDR's dead in US, then they problably won't care(not like they ever did...)

mmm... they can definitely still sue you even if it's free... just make sure you don't infringe on any copyrights or patents and you'll be fine.

r0X0r reproduced a well-known game unrevised with effectively nothing but a different name.

RAVE 16 was designed because DDR and ITG charts just can't challenge and entertain the populus, and PIU machines are never in good condition.

Konami owns the intellectual property rights to the layout and the artwork only. The genre has been used by at least 4 companies already, and is very commonly emulated.
There'd be no solid grounds for anyone to sue on. The closest game there is was never produced outside of Asia and only sold a handful of machines.

However, I'll make sure that none of it's patented prior to actually releasing it.

I can help with a couple more things. (No, I STILL haven't figured out how to use GIMP - I may just pirate Photoshop or something XD) I could create you a nice forum (with the help of a few friends), and I can test the pads / distribute them, HOWEVER I have no means of building them >.>;

But other than that, I'm still working on the custom arrows/graphics...once I can actually start that is. Or something.

EDIT: You know, once I get my job in May (I'll finally be able to legally get minimum wages! Yays!), I could help on the monetary issues if there's still any - I'll have more money than I know what to do with anyways, and I'm wanting to support this company in any way I can. ^.^

What kind of controller are you going to solder to?
Could you make it so we can pick between PS2 and PC? (USB)

Okay, that's not a problem. In both your cases, here's what we ask:

We suggest you become an active member of local, state, and regional bemani groups (ie I'm a member of PNWBemani.net, letsgroove.org, and other Oregon/PNW forums; I'm also organising a DDR club for my school). Talk to other members about DTG, and see if you can find anyone else in your locality who would be interested in becoming a distributer. In your cases, ask them if they have the tools necessary to build a wooden box to precise measurements, cut high-gauge steel, and purchase items through the internet. If they do, ask them if they'd like to become distributors in partnership with yourself for your region. Here's a regional map I've put together:

I'm going to be getting used softpads until I find somewhere I can get them either made for me or that already makes and sells DDR pad chips at a reasonable price.

And yes, I'll make USB control boxes using numpads.

Right on.

By the way, my DDR softpad chips were plastic. Aren't they easy to burn/melt/mess up on?

I use electrical tape; I'm not advanced enough for open flame. xD

Haha. Me neither, I managed to burn like 3 controller boards before I actually got one. And the funny thing is, I didnt even solder. I just took metal clips and soldered the wires into the metal clips, then attached the clips on the right wires(ground wires etc)

Well, that's the idea. I've never experienced lag or axis issues with a num pad playing StepMania before (and they can be used with FFR too, if that's what you're into), but I will test them, and I won't sell a faulty product. (Business Ethics: Almost Completely Unique to Oregon)

Hmm...

Dancing Tofu, howabout you sell a DIY kit...

I can send you the anim8er file if you want... basically, it comes with wood and screws, and they get to add the panels, the sensors,a nd wire it up.

Well, I'm kind of working on something like that already.

It's super low-budget, and partly for comic relief.

What it is:

Duct Tape DDR pad: Lots of assembly required.

If we make them, they'll come in cubic, 12" boxes. They should cost around $15-$20 apiece and they're pretty much softpads that are made modded. E15.gif

I gauge interest and if it looks like they'd sell, I'll throw together a prototype.
