I swear I've heard that piano line before...or something very similar. Ah, "Frozen Ray", that's where...
Additionally, I'm not really getting the 6/8 thing. Sounds like 4/4 with eighth triplets, because the kick hits quarter notes. Four kicks per measure, 12 notes on the synths in the background...I'm not getting 6/8 out of this.
Anyways, good song. I like it. Do you have permission to use those vocals? _________________

I'm willing to wager a couple of $$$ that this year's winner will not gonna compose for DDR immediately. |
DM Ashura in IIDX? Where!? |

DM Ashura is not currently featured in IIDX. Where are you people getting this from?
RED ZONE is by NAOKI & Tatsh. _________________

The vocals are my own, heavily processed. Also, though it may sound like a 4/4, it would be complex to write it to sheet. (That was the first step for the melody and piano section, btw.) 6/8 was more comfortable to work in. I built the song going for a one-two-one-two type thing. Split each beat up into 3 pieces and you get 6/8. Some even argue it's 12/8 because of the chord layout. Doesn't matter to me, you can take any song you want and write it in any time signature you want, whether it makes sense or not. Putting triplets in there repeatedly would make the sheet messy. I avoided that using an alternative time sig. It's the composer's preference.
Thanks for your comments! Good luck, everyone _________________

Hey, everyone! I'm thinking of submitting this as one of my entries:

You do know that you can submit the full version and they'll cut it down to size themselves if it wins, right? _________________

The full version is 11:25. If I recall correctly, the maximum song length is 7:00. I'd have to cut it anyways, so why not prepare it for DDR?
Also, I feel that I've cut it for optimal DDRing, and therefore it will do better in the contest. Of course, if you've heard the full mix and think there is a better section, by all means tell me. _________________

Sorry, your genre went to hell years ago. The only worthwhile song to use now is Sweetest Savage.
And Battle Breaks. |
RRrrrrrrright. |
Please, make sure that you are basing your opinion on the music that you have always truly adored. Don't let Konami, Microsoft, or RedOctane "tell" you what to like. I mean, how many people would really like "PARANOiA" if it hadn't been made into such a "boss"-type song for people to have to learn to enjoy?
I don't think DDR is the music. DDR is the game.
The music could and should be anything. |
Mainstream rap, hip-hop, etc. sucks. That's all there is to it, really. That was my point. |
theres some non mainstream stuff >>Madlib, Doom, or RJD2<<< I can dream too. |

I'm really liking this. Decent variation and transitions, it flows. The panning in percussion you do is something I can't seem to do well without crapping up the track. I could see this track geared more towards hardcore players. Quality samples and synths. Really feeling this track. _________________

I don't think Konami would really take advantage of it though. _________________

Wow, saxxonpike, I'm happy that you liked it. I thought it turned out very well.
...Hmm...but I wonder...
My current DDR edit is 2:50 - 4:27 of my full version. Yet there's another good section from about 0:43 - 2:18.
...
Gah! Indecision! My mortal enemy!
...
Maybe I should just do 0:00 - 4:27... _________________

Last year, weren't the winners decided by popular vote, or was that just a farce? _________________

It's a bit of a farce. Some songs (like my own) don't actually get entered for equal consideration. Two of my die hard fans/friends spent literal hours clicking away at whatever came down the pipe. They said that they heard numerous mixes (like "Race Against Time" and the Dig Bear song) over and over again. But, they never once heard any of my eight (!!) submissions.
That's why I didn't enter this year. Especially after learning a little more about the selection process on the judges part, and witnessing the favoured selections. $80 down the drain last year. Like I'd waste $160 this year for the same treatment? Yeah, right. |

That's why I didn't enter this year. | ...because you're friends didn't hear them doesn't mean the process wasn't fair or equal. |
Tell me what is. They heard at least a hundred (and then some) mixes, over the course of their sit as moderators at their computers. This wasn't just one time. It was over the course of weeks of review. It wasn't from the same server. They didn't use my login. It was legit, and as it should be... 'cuz one of them doesn't even like my music that much. But, the point is that my music never even got heard, by what they're saying. For two people to be Hawkeye-ing the process, and not find my music over the course of weeks & hours... I'd say that isn't fair. Considering I paid my $80, and for what? Just to put some coin in Broadjam's pockets.
I even sent for contact to find out if there was a way to be sure that my mixes were entered correctly. No one got back to me. The contest was really important to me, not just some "cool thing" to get my name in lights. So, I tried to be sure that I was entering into something fair. Turns out I wasn't. No one ever got back to me, even after the contest was over. You'd think that, if they cared about the artists, the music, or the process... they would keep on top of this sort of thing. |
