| Passing is winning and failing is losing. Duh. | To expand upon this, nothing is keeping people from creating a team of players. It just so happens the game can be played solo (perhaps like shooting your own hoops). Play a game 1 on 1 (in both DDR or Basketball). It's all the same in that aspect. Just because we don't have organized teams doesn't mean they cannot be created. _________________

I just wanted to throw that in there, 'cause I feel cool that I can ride a horse.. since I don't have any other talents. =[
Anyway, on the topic:
DDR should be a sport. It's a sport by definition, it takes dedication and practice to be good at it (unless you're rythmically blessed, or something).. and I honestly think it's more complex than say.. basketball or soccer.
They have basketball arcade games, don't they? And soccer arcade games.. So why can't DDR be an official sport?
Sorry if any of this has already been stated, I didn't have time to read through all the threads. |
What do you mean by more complex? DDR has very few rules; it is actually pretty simple. Basketball and soccer have many more rules, and both of those sports make extensive use of strategy; much more so than DDR. Also, while basketball and soccer may have arcade games, the arcade games aren't considered sports in themselves; they are just based off sports. One could argue that DDR is the arcade game version of dancing (which may or may not be a sport depending on how you look at it). |
Well, I think that anyone can pick up a basketball and dribble down a court and shoot, and not travel, and such. DDR takes more time to get used to than basketball or soccer. A lot of people can play those sports, whether they're good at it or not. But whenever people who've NEVER played Dance Dance before get on the pad, they're all kinds of confused and most of them walk off. I guess it's not really more complex.. just harder to get used to? All of the sports we have are extremely simple.
I'm not very good at making points. =[
Personally, I think DDR and dancing are different.. but you're right. I never thought of that.
I'm not very good at this. lol. |

So what your saying is... Basketball, soccer < DDR < Horseback riding? |
Depends on what equestrian discipline you're talking about. Some are simple and easy and everyone with a brain can do it.. some take your whole life, with hours of practice a day, to get decent. =]
No, seriously though, it took me a lot longer to learn how to play DDR [well] than play soccer or basketball. And I've been horseback riding for 11 years and I'm still just mediocre at it. But that doesn't mean one is better than the other.. I think some are just more difficult to master than others. |

But that is based off of how good the dancers look. DDR produces a raw score by accuracy. It's technically different than dancing. | I know that but what are the chances the average joe would care. I'm not saying it couldn't be a sport. I'm saying that DDR as an official sport would be more trouble than it's worth. accuracy (in my opinion) is the hardest aspect of the game but aside from that its just too easy to shrug off. When the game is changed to the point that 13 year olds that can pass The Legend Of Max can't logically fail Firefly or .59 without some really good excuse then mabie it would be a good sport. |

I don't understand how does that make it not a sport... _________________

It's actually very high. Think about all the people who stop and watch people play DDR at the arcade. _________________

Well obviously but if a group of people who was closely involved got together... _________________

Video games in general are becoming sports, because of leagues like CPL,CAL,MLG,TWL,etc, etc, etc!
They say in the future gaming will be an official sport, so does that make DDR a sport when video games do become sports?

I will put money on at least a third and fourth revival, although they will too naturally be pointless.
Still I guess it's a good thing that there are new people who are interested in the future of DDR. Even if they are proving that the only thing they're really doing to promote its growth in the future is by posting in dead threads about whether or not it's a sport. _________________
