Actually I just leave it out in my room so I can come back and play it without having to set it up. My grandmother is a neat freak though, and feels she has to come in every ten minutes and put it away. (AKA: Fold it up and toss it in the closet.)

Playing in socks is completely ridiculous. That's crazy.

You'd actually be surprised how good a traction you can get on your feet, that is unless you have ballerina feet o.O Plus, unless you dont wash your feet in the shower there really aren't too many germs to be worried about, just dirt. Most arcades are rather clean, and a bare-footed player isn't too hard to find. As far as the screws are concerned, you're not going to hit them unless you're misstepping. In that case you've gotta work up your balance, but if you got your weight-shifts in check then screws are never a problem because you're just never hitting them. Course, you've got to go with what you're comfortable with i guess...but still shoes are just dead weight you gotta lift every time in my opinion so it's worth the extra two minutes in the shower to really scrub em. E1.gif

Any reason why people like less traction? I'm beginning to think now there's two kinds of players, the aforementioned 'slider' and the seemingly more popular 'hopper' i guess... I dont think this is like in bowling where curved players are always superior to straight players...but any reason why someone would want less traction? I'm just not seeing it. I've played with socks on and the lack of support under your feet just throws me off balance so i'm stumbling to every note. Also, what level players are sliding? Is this a newbism (like standing center) or do high-ranking players use this? I'm very curious to know...

I don't know if anyone has responded to you yet, so I will. =] And if someone already has, just disregard this.
Personally, I LOVE traction. Traction is my best friend ever. My boyfriend plays barefooted, he says it's much easier. From what you say I should try playing barefoot, although I play in mesh Puma's so it's almost like barefoot, right? =]
Anyway, traction. I guess some people just don't like it when they can't slide their feet. Sometimes people have better balance WHEN they side, rather than having their feet (or shoes, or whatever) stick and have no give.
I agree with you completely, though. If I'm sliding all over the place, I can't keep my balance. I think it's mostly new to middle DDR people that are against traction. At least here, that's how it is. All the high-ranking players I know play both flat-footed, and with the most traction possible. They wipe the pad with bathroom cleaner (works better than Windex), and clean their shoes, and so forth. It's awesome to have clean pads to play on. =]

Hope I helped a little bit.

those were nike frees 7.0. no idea how much they cost, but you could google em now.

to me, barefoot is just disgusting. no matter what, there's gonna be germs and dirt on your feet and the pads. its inevitable.

as for me, i'll play in anything that's a pair of sneakers. weight isn't a problem for me. i play in jordans, nikes, pumas, w/e...

I'll do that. Thanks. =]

Barefoot is pretty gross. I clean the pad for my boyfriend, since he plays barefoot, and if he gets some kind of gross foot disease I'll probably get it. There will be none of that! lol.

I can't play in heavy shoes. My girly legs are too weak. =[

I wear Sneaux shoes. They're comfortable as hell, and I think they look pretty cool:

I get reasonably good PA with them, but I don't think I'm at the skill level where shoes make much of a difference.

And no, I don't skateboard. I know they're skater shoes. It's just that I'm a poser.

I actually play with socks at the arcade.. and I play ten footers 'n stuff. I wear socks with grips underneath 'em so they don't slide, so it's heaven. 8O I've only had one injury as of yet, when my toe clipped the metal part of the pad on the edge of the arrow. Only hurt for a few minutes, but kept playing anyway. o.<

I use socks with grips on them at home, because I hate the feeling of the soft pad on my feet when I play barefoot. The pad sticks to my feet a little, and since I weight 220 there's no way I'm gonna rip my pad by wearing shoes.

At the mall I wear my old(and I mean old) white and blue S. Carters. They do fine for me, but I'm gonna to look into getting someskater shoes since I'm slowly trying to not dress Like I'm a thug since I moved from Detroit, and not into that crap anymore.
