|
|
I'm currently modifying my two tx-1000-esque pads into 1 arcade-like pad (no bar though). This should also be possible with Ninja, AB, and other similarly built pads.
After scrapping the two pads, here's what I have:
Basic layout, about 2.3" thick.
In here are 2 3/8" baseboards, 1 1/4" baseboard, 4 arrow panels, 5 3/8" panelboards, 2 frames, 1 pad chip, and 6 wires.
72 screws, 3 of my 12 corner brackets, 1 of my sheet steel stationary panel covers.
24 wood triangles; I've thrown a lot of the bad ones out; I need another 8 of them.
Some of my sensors. I have 12, and I'm going to cut all but one in half, giving me 23. Each panel will use 4, and I'll use 5 for my selection box. This will leave me with 2 for backup.
A 1/8" floppy plywood baseboard with torn up foam on both sides. I have 2 of these.
Plexiglas up arrow with LED's and decal. (there's a slot on the chip to wire the LED's to for each arrow.)
sheet metal cover; I have 6 of these. (only need 5)
I'll update once I've made progress. =) _________________

I've been trying to figure out how to do this since October (when my first pad broke 100% and my second started falling apart), and I still haven't worked out every kink, but I think i have it mostly figured out.
The only place where the construction backfires is the pricetag.
I spent $73 ea. on these pads, when, if I had $146 to spend right NOW, I'd have an order of 72 sq. ft. of sheet steel on it's way, I'd be gettin' ready to go to the local lumber co. and pick up an assload of maple, and I'd be searching ebay for used softpads that I can pick up locally for less than $10.
And to answer your question, YES, I will try to have a detailed runthrough WITH PICTURES of the modification process once I'm finished. _________________

its a great idea and all, but wouldnt it be faster/better just to build your own pad from scratch?
well, if you already have a crapped out metal pad to begin with, i guess itd work...
i just dont see why you would spend the money for a metal pad then "mod" it to basically your own homepad..
maybe i just missed something.. _________________

I just figured I should take advantage of my resources and build a real pad, then sell it for $150 and use the money to give DTG a little boost. _________________

ok, i was just thinking if you BOUGHT the pads just to mod, it would be pretty stupid; but since you already had them, it makes sense (i might end up having to do that to my friends crappy pads )
and i look forward to how your DT...whatever pads turn out. _________________

guess who wants me to fix TWO of their metal pads...
*any guesses?*
my friend that i mentioned earlier
anyway, Tofu, do you have an estimate of the cost per pad?
my friend has 2 tx style, all metal pads, and they are messing up on him
he just said that making them arcade style would be cool, but i need to tell him how much it'd cost _________________

But if you want to make them individually arcade-like, it'll cost about $20 each and you'll need to be able to cut and drill through metal. _________________
