Hey, everyone. I'm trying to replace some old BNS DX pads (both died after about a year due to bad sensors). I know that the newer BNS DX Xtreme pads are reviewed pretty highly, but Best Buy has the RedOctane Ignition 3.0 dance pads for $70, which, after BNS shipping, making the price for a pair of either almost equal. (I really don't feel like replacing the pads after a year again; they get pretty heavy use with 9-footers. BNS left kind of a bad taste in my mouth with regards to that.)
In addition, Best Buy has React dance pads for $31.99, which intrigued me because they supposedly have a 7 year warranty (also because they have GameCube connectors).
Which should I go for: BNS, RedOctane, or React? |

Go with the BNS.
It's durable enough so you don't need the 7-year-warranty. |

That's what I thought with the original BNS DX pad, but it died after a year. |

My friend got a BNS pad for Christmas, and I'm going to his house later. Then I will be able to rate them on my personal experiences.
But right now, I'm rating it on other people's experiences, and it's a good pad. Yours was an older one anyway, give a new one a chance. _________________

Okay, looks like I'm going with the BNS Fusions then. Thanks. |

No problem.
Oh, and if you want information from someone who's actually played on one, I suggest that you PM J-POP_FOR_LIFE. He was very helpful when I wanted information on them. |

The original DX-Xtremes were simply amazing. I had mine for, I dunno, two years or so during which I would play heavy songs frequently and play on that thing for hours. But it kept up. It started tearing on top though, and eventually some static buildup or something caused it to stop responding. I dunno. But I'm pretty sure it was my fault. Anyway, it was very very good while it lasted.
I had gotten a second pad of the same model. It had the same design as the original but the arrows were slightly less raised, the plug also had an Xbox connector, and it was a bit less responsive; a few arrow ghostings, some insensitivity, etc. I wasn't extremely pleased with it but it worked okay for doubles.
After my original DX Xtreme broke I got a DX-Xtreme Fusion. This thing is awesome; the arrows are pretty much just as raised as the original pad; it has a PS2, Xbox, and USB connector; and it also has the foam insert and a slick new design. It's very responsive and sensitive and I've scored well on songs on it. My only complaint is that the USB port seems to be slightly laggy, but I have a PS2->LPT adapter that works very well with the Psxpad driver for Windows.
I would recommend the BNS. If having the pad break after one year annoys you, you'd be super pissed if you got a RedOctane (read the Ignition 3.0 thread here on DDR Freak; people have posted time and time again that one of the arrows on their pad simply stopped working, or something like that). |

If you're trying to choose between two or more pads, then post IN THE THREADS FOR THOSE PADS. Do NOT make a new thread for this. |

Sorry, I hadn't seen that. In addition, the threads for these pads were very old, and I hadn't seen a thread for the React pad, so I wanted to bring it up.
In somewhat related news, I just got the pads in, but they sent Sparkles instead of Fusions (as a guy, I can't bring myself to keep the Sparkles). Any idea how good BUYNSHOP's customer service is? |

I've tried both the React and Octane 3.0 pads.
On the RedOctane one, the down arrow died on me after about 4 months or so. I do not really recommnd it.
The React pad is absolutely awful! The response on it is crappy since I fail songs I could pass on my old RedOctane pad. Not to mention the foam inserts they included with it are an absolute joke.
I too would suggest the BNS ones purely based on the experiences I have had with both RO and React. _________________

I haven't used the React, but being wireless, it lags.
I got an Ignition 3.0 once, and it was awful. The foam insert part was good, but the down arrow ghosted from the moment I put it together. Then I never bought from them again. My school got one and so far it's been working, but it slides around a lot on the hard floor.
I used my friend's BNS, and it's everything I expected it to be. It's quite sensative, and on a hard floor, it moves very little. A word of caution though, don't play on the carpet. That will make the surface EXTREMELY squishy, and that will drain your stamina very fast. We put it in my friend's kitchen because the carpet was killing me, and from then on it was awesome. If you don't have a hard floor, take a piece of plywood and those "tiles" that are used in new houses these days and put them on. I mean those kinds of tiles that are in kitchens and stuff that aren't really tiles because they bend but they're shiny and hard. That's his kitchen surface, and it hardly moves at all. _________________

I know you don't use the bar, but still, being a foampad do you think it would slide right out from under you if you were bar-raping and leaning back? My CF moves very slightly when I do that, and it's 45 pounds. |

It probably would, and then the raper would be so busy raping his/her precious bar that he/she wouldn't be able to go with the pad wherever it goes because the bar wouldn't go with it. _________________

it actually depends on what type of foam pad. Like mine I don't have a bar so I use a chair, and mine and my friends dont slide, we only slide a little bit. So it really depends on what type of foam pad you have. _________________

No problem on that. Gotta suck up your manhood on those Sparkles, they're apparently very good. And Sparkly; what self-respecting straight man wouldn't want one?
Anyway, check this out; there seemed to have been some discussion on the Xtreme.
BNS Xtreme Discussion
We have these threads so people can see what discussion has taken place; if someone wants to write a React review and put it up as a discussion thread, that would likely be most helpful. Just remember not to buy wireless.

If they really do suck, it's probably true that a lot of people have no idea WHY they suck. Suggesting an explanation.
