So I have mats like Level Six Deluxe Dance Mat v3.1 (Ignition Style)

I don't know the exact specification...version and all..

I've had it for about a year, before that I had the really cheap no padding ones and one broke.

But with these ones now the arrows are ripping and cracking, like the top layer of the mat is. And I have NOOO idea how to fix / stop this.

It's all taped up now, so I probably need new mats. But how can I prevent this from happening again, cause I don't want to have to buy new mats every year

Anyone had mats for a long time now (not the metal ones) that didn't get destroyed?

Advice frown.gif it's hard to play now b/c the tape gets all sticky

Buy n Shop Fusions and Sparkles are the best foam pads available from what I've heard.

DX Fusion
DX Sparkle

They're both the same, just a different design on them.

It doesn't take long for buying mats every year to get more expensive than getting a metal pad. The new mymybox metal pads look pretty nice.

My buddy cut out like 3/4 inch thick piece of plywood to put in his mat instead of the foam inserts they give you. At first you would think would hurt its life but it has lasted about 2 years now.

it's not that I wouldn't prefer the metal ones

it's that with the foam my basement ceiling is on the verge of collapse as it is...i dunno how the metal would hold up...

but if my mats are already ripping..wouldn't plywood make it worse? or if i bought new ones? hmmm

The plastic casing of the softpads become brittle with use and age as the oils that make them flexible and smooth are worn off. They inevitably crack and crease, but having a solid base will make them last much longer, and remember to keep the surface taught, because the pads actually are pretty hard to tear.

If you can find one, Ignition v2.0s are really good too. I have two of them and they held up for three years until a few weeks ago, when one ripped and the other started giving me Way Offs. The recent v3.0s tend to be hit-and-miss, from what I've heard.
