Hi there! I am a total newbie and have 3 kids that LOVE DDR! They are 4, 8 and 14 and I want to get the best game version for beginners and for them to compete against each other. Any help would be appreciated.
OOpps... I forgot we own a PS2 console

Are you talking about a home version game? If so, for which console?
If you're talking about a PS2 game, I think Max 2 would be the best choice.

I haven't played for as long as most people on this site
but i'll say buy a bundle (a package that has the game, and comes with a soft pad)
it should cost around $60 (well that's how much i bought it for)
any game is ok, all ddr rocks! =)

It all depends on the video game console you own, or want to own.

I'd have to say Max 2.
It would be really easy to unlock songs and learn how to use all of the features even for the 4 year old. Awesome game in my opinion. |

On PS2, I'm going to have to echo what's been said here. DDR Max 2 is the best for kids.
If you're talking an XBox, all of the Ultramix games are rather kid friendly with Beginner mode, and semi-easy unlocks. |

Yeah, I'd go with Max 2. I would have said SuperNOVA, but I highly doubt your kids would have the patience to get through Stellar Master Mode. I almost threw a rock at my PS2 because it was so pointless.

SuperNOVA? For beginners? Highly doubt that.
Personally, I think Konamix is the best for beginners, but that may be hard to get ahold of. Max2 is definitely a close second, though.

I would say MAX 2. It's got a good songlist, and beginner mode. The thing is, DDR EXTREME has a bad songlist, and EXTREME 2 and SuperNOVA are rediculous to unlock things with. So yeah, your best bet would be MAX 2.

It's a great game, but it doesn't have a beginner mode, which might scare away new players. It's a great mix for people who are acquainted with the game, however. I'd recommend it as a second mix, once you're familiar with the game.

That is true, but there are a few Light one footers on it, so I don't really see why lack of Beginner should be a problem.

I've never played DDR Max so I didn't bother mentioning it because I didn't know if it had a ridiculous unlock system or what.

I highly doubt that you'll find Konamix in a store, but there are tons of copies on eBay for cheap.
And do not get SuperNOVA or Extreme 2. It's difficult to unlock everything unless you can play well on Heavy. |

There's only 3 that don't have to be unlocked; I mean it wouldn't be that hard (hell I started out on 2s at the arcade back in the day and was on 3s within an hour), but when Max2 is out there, which also has a great songlist, and an entire Beginner mode, I'd pick that over Max1 for an absolute novice.

I agree, MAX would be good too. MAX was my very first DDR game, and before it the only one I'd played was Disney Mix (and I'd only done like two songs). I started off on Light and ended up doing great. Besides, Beginner mode is bad for you. It creates habits like returning your foot to the center of the pad, or paying more attention to the dancer than the arrows so you can't do well later.

This is a decent point. I'm not going to fire up Max2 just to look this up, but someone should find the exact path in the options menu to turn off the dancers on Beginner, because that does teach you bad habits.

For Max2:
Options -> Dancer Options -> Display Dancer -> Off
For just about everything else:
Options -> Graphic Options -> Display Dancer -> Off
I only remember because I always make sure dancers are on when I get a new game.
EDIT: Oh jeez, you meant the dancers on Beginner Mode. I don't think you can remove them. That's why I just suggest that new players play songs that happen to be one- and two-footers on Light.
