|
|
Given everyone saying how Konami wants to run ITG into the ground, yada yada yada, why doesn't RoXoR (with the artist's permission of course) simply release the entire code/data/music/etc. for ITG to the Stepmania community to continue developing?
Maybe an unofficial arcade machine-type-thing will arise, maybe not. But I personally think that's a better idea than just letting it die. And if the musician(s ) and step artists keep working together, maybe we can get regular song packs for existing ITG2 machines with the new patch.
Anyone else agree? Disagree? I'm here to stimulate ideas!
Edit: I realize that the licenses will be a problem with this, but they can either be excluded, or everyone can just ignore the legal issues (as they do with 90% of the StepMania files out there!). Or even just get a huge group of people to donate money, maybe rent the licenses, or something. It can be worked out. The community is strong! _________________

I wouldn't go that far. In fact, I brought up the notion on the announcement topic and nearly got my head bitten off for it.

Because Stepmania is already open-source. And now ITG2 has R21, allowing for custom songs, so any further changes are practically unnecessary.

Stepmania.com has several of those, including songs by Kyle Ward such as Indulgence.

Heck, there's nothing wrong with that goal. Certainly, these ideas have already been tried in one form or another, but that shouldn't stop you from throwing any other ideas you had out there. I'm all for the constructive discussion of ideas. _________________

Yea I read that, but still it seems to be the consensus.

Yes, but the content isn't (themes, music). And while I agree that R21 and custom songs is good, releasing the content to the SM people would allow for unofficial future versions, not just random songs for existing machines (with no banners and backgrounds).

By song pack I mean basically an unofficial ITG3 or something like it, which would include the older songs (hence my idea). Given the large amount of good, ITG-like songs seen in the StepMix contests, I think an unofficial ITG3 or something like it would be great.

Misconstrewing the concept, me thinks.
I think a hobby-type subcareer was what was implied. Not throwing everything into this for free and only doing this. _________________

I think you misunderstood the idea.
You also seem to forget that people also make music as a hobby, maybe they'd like to contribute as well? _________________

Personally, I think dance games are getting stale overall. It wouldn't be a bad idea for ITG to stop making releases right now. |

Because that would violate the terms of the settlement. They can not make, release, or take credit for making anything ITG related. I suppose they could, if it was without stepcharts and they blurred out everything that mentioned ITG or four-panel dance games.
DJBon2112 wrote: | Maybe an unofficial arcade machine-type-thing will arise, maybe not. |
So another ITG 1?
DJBon2112 wrote: | maybe we can get regular song packs for existing ITG2 machines with the new patch. |
No, sorry. Roxor can't release any more updates, or anything that would be implied to be used with ITG.
However, on the topic of not letting their work go to waste, the settlement doesn't say anything about Konami gaining access to all the codes, anything they were working on, any non-infringing ITG copyrights, and things like the songs, the engine, or themes that don't mention ITG or four-panel dance games. I'm almost certain Roxor could still use them if they ventured into other dance games. If so...
...you know how easy it is to switch stepmania into pump mode....
...and you know that Roxor has worked with Andamiro...
...and you know that Roxor's software can run on Andamiro's hardware...
...so stop thinking about Konami continuing ITG and consider:
Pump It Up 8th featuring Roxor.
They could easily take the ITG3 engine, swap out all the visuals that says ITG for Pump visuals, change any 4panel-esque graphics to 5-panel, make the in-game five panel versus four, then put it in a pump cabinet. Sure, they'd have to re-program all the steps and change around some stuff, but it'd be the most they could do without completely trashing what they already have. I mean, other than totally sell it to Konami. _________________

Thanks Zakuseth-dst, you made me feel good at ITG again.
Hehe, no offense guys, but I have a low arrowsmash self-esteem because I'm often surrounded by crazy good players. Passing Summer Expert is completely unimpressive to them basically. _________________

I hope you're not serious. The players in the Robotix qualifier weren't very good at all. Remember September was such a better tournament. |

My point isnt the players ... my point is the organisation itself .. it was soo well organised .. and it was soo fun to be there .. even if the qulifiers werent that great ... at least quebec and the orgnizer himself , is frekain making an effort to keep ITG alive .. and i think hes doing a fantastik job! its working a lot better in quebec then anywhere else.
The lights , the set up .. the ocmputers .. the 3 camera angles, the sponsors like Hype energy , thats pretty huge company in canada .. then his final product in the end .. this tournament kills any other tournament ive been too .. i neevr seen a tournament like this , not even those from roxor , were this well organized. They maybe had better players .. but this tournament was really good towards the end .. All in all .. Zakuseth tournaments kick buttocks! it was entertianing , and also with that guy doing his freestyle , like oyu can clearly hear the people in the back laughing and being impressed .. most of all being entertainend and enjoying themselves.
You should attend one of their tournaments before judging. Maybe you should come to Groovemania ! |
