I would reccomend the CF. MyMyBox isn't that trustworthy from what I've heard, and if I'm right the Nexen isn't that great (I forget where I heard that, but I did).

Best pad order:

1. MMB Blueshark.
2. Cobalt Flux
3. MMB Nexen
4. TX-6000
5. crappy stuff.

I think that's a pretty accurate list. if you can get ebough money for the CF soon, then go for that. I believe its the most durable, but it doesn't offer the best performance (MMB Blueshark does).

F*ck the Cobalt Flux; go for the Blueshark. I have a Cobalt Flux and it always decides to be gay when I do 11's, and give me random misses. Mymybox has majorly improved their pads now; if you want a sensitive arcade-like pad, I'd go for the Blueshark for sure.

Actually, I have only seen good opinions of the Nexen pad. I haven't seen a comparison of a CF and Nexen though, and it would be nice to get someone to talk about it a little more. The people who actually own one like Vesper said, it's a great pad, but not nearly as great as a Blueshark pad.

Check this thread out:

http://itg.ddrfreak.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=120766&sid=f7bbaa4fba1401f580f7d8ccbf05203e

From what I understand from talking to Mymybox on the phone, the Nexen is more or less built to last as long as a CF and it's 100 bucks less. The Nexen pads are thicker than the CF pad as well at 1.6". I'm not sure whether that translates to real additional sturdiness compared to the CF, but it's probably something worth noting.

One thing that make the decision to get one or not interesting is that a CF is 300 bucks and you have to add shipping. A Blueshark, based upon several users is superior (to varying degrees of opinion) to a CF, and is only marginally more expensive. I don't know why anyone would buy a CF over a Blueshark now from what I'm seeing. If you aren't getting a Blueshark, then the Nexen is the next best thing from the next tier down.

300-400 - Blueshark and CF
200-250-ish Nexen and TX 6000s

I'm not sure that there is a decent pad less than 200 bucks from what people are saying.

The one thing about the Nexen and Blueshark pads is that theyhaven't been around as long as the CF pads, so everyone already knows how long CFs generally last, but nobody knows how long Nexens or Bluesharks last because they haven't been out long enough to develop a long-term track record.

With all this said, I ordered a Nexen a few days ago on a leap of faith and simple economics. I was unable to get a Blueshark since they wouldnt have any available until after the holiday, so I decided that I'd just the next best thing in its tier in my opinion, the Nexen. The CF seems like it costs more than it's worth in comparison.

If Nexen pads prove to be as reliable as the CF, I'm not sure why anyone would consider it a worthy buy anymore.

As a note, I'm a DDR newblet. I'm just getting started on DDR and researched for what seems like forever on metal pads. I learned a TON from those who have been into this game for so long, and I want to say thanks to everyone for sharing information here. I wanted to play on the best I could afford, but I couldn't find that grade in stock (Blueshark), so I settled for what looked to be the next best thing in my opinion for the money. I have never used any other pads at all because I never played DDR at all either, so it looks like I'll be playing on a Nexen and I might buy another one for doubles if I ever get good enough to play DDR doubles.

Have you debowed the panels? And have you been remembering to clean it?

Yes, the panels are debowed and I cleaned it about 1-2 weeks ago. It's the fact that I'm not stepping in the center of the panel, or as far in as I should be. I'm just not used to moving my feet around that much during difficult songs as I have asthma and get out of breath really fast.

Take it from someone who's tried: Cobalt Flux and BlueShark are NOT, and never WILL BE, pads that can be used barefoot.

The Nexen is pretty much the ONLY metal pad you can play on barefoot, unless you're cool with homebrews.

Seconded. I tried to play in socks on my Cobalt Flux on a light song, and the screws that were sticking out killed my feet. I know someone who tried playing barefoot on a Cobalt Flux and sliced their foot open.

Hey, anyone play in shoes on a Nexen pad? It looks like the pad was specifically designed so that you wouldn't kill yourself without shoes on it, but how about durability on Nexens when you wear shoes on it primarily?

Hmmmmm, Nexen, to shoe or not to shoe.... erm.gif

That's why you don't go completely on what others say.

I seriously think you are getting a bit PARANOiD over MyMyBox... sure their old stuff may be crap, but their new pads show grand improvement, especially with the Nexan and Blueshark. For all you know, the people who said the things about the Nexan might be full of poopy, why just take those people for granted right away? It seems like strong anti-MMB bias to me.

Can't say the same about my Solomode 2200 anymore (it would happen, IMO, to fall under the "older but improving" models of MMB:) - arrows are cracked, one split into three pieces, and the sensors are misfiring after a half-year of heavy/expert abuse.

That's funny. I've had my CF for almost 2 years now and the only way I'd play it is with socks. My feet are slightly callused and I have to buy new socks every other month, but it's never bothered me.

The arcade mod makes it a bit easier to play on with socks in my opinion. Without the mod it hurts my feet so much that I can't play.

Yeah, for some reason my sister can play barefoot on even arcade pads without her feet bugging her one bit, but I can hardly pull off playing barefoot on a modded softpad. xP (then again, she plays on light and I play on heavy, which might have something to do with it)

So it really varies from person to person.
In my case, I can play uninhibited in 3-pound shoes 'cause I wear 8-lb boots all the time, but the downside is that my feet feel really unprotected without shoes of some sort.

Yeah, I'm sure skill has something to do with it. I can only play 7 footers myself, so maybe that's why playing in socks is easy for me. I'm trying to move up to 8's though and realized I'd need shoes to play those because I can't keep my balance with sock feet. Plus, being 6'8" with size 13 feet doesn't really help either.

Socks don't grip at all on my Flux; I'd slide all over the place on Heavy or Expert. Shoes are definitely the way to go if you want to be able to pass 10's - 13's.
