First, that has nothing to do with this topic.
Second, don't use the subject line. I had no idea what you were talking about until I happened to glance at it.
Third, DDR is way easier than ITG. Obviously, the condition of the pads can cause you to do better at ITG, but in terms of step difficulty, ITG is harder by a long shot. |
haha i meant to post a new thread. Anyways, we are not geeks. We know we are geeks when we talk about ddr 24/7 _________________

"Agreed."
Would being enthusiastic about any hobby make you a geek? (Take a sport like hockey or basketball for example. If you were just as 'obsessed' about one of those sports as you were with DDR would that make you a geek?) |

Would being labeled a geek be a bad thing?
Seriously, if you're posting on a DDR forum, you're a DDR geek.
I'm a DDR geek, and I'm proud of it.
Oh and Darkcore, there ARE such things as basketball geeks, and I'm surprised you haven't met them.
I define a geek as anyone obsessed in any specific hobby or activity and thus emerges into that specific culture.
For my definition, not all geeks play Halo2 or WoW. AND geek isn't necessarily a negative term _________________

Even if somebody just posts once or twice?
Even if the questiuons are not in-depth, and n00bish?
You just label anybody who has a hobby and uses a message board for any reason, big or small, with the same brush... surely there is more to it than just posting on a message board. It kinda contradicts your definition, since you can post once or twice, or from time to time with questions on a a prticular topic or hobby, on a message board, and fall short of being overly obsesssive in that topic or hobby. _________________

Yeah of course DDR players are geeks. personally I have not padded in about 2months. I need to break out my CF and start padding again ive been going through a long dry spell of not playing myself. Some of my friends think its geeky that I play but nobody really judges me as a person just because I play or not. And the ones that would judge me like that I probably wouldnt wanna get to know anyways... _________________

Wow. Thread's still going. But onto the subject at hand:
Geek is a matter of perception. Whether you label yourself as a geek or not, whether society label's you as a geek or not, and whether your friends label you as a geek or not, it doesn't matter. The people who get all offended and PC about language are just being silly. Although you may dislike it, society exists, and they're generally assholes. I know I'm one. But assholes are only effective if you give a flying fuck about what they say. If you don't believe you're a geek, why does it matter what John Madden says?
To my perspective, you are a geek. As am I, as is Evil Pied. If you disagree, fine, just don't get offended. _________________

The offense comes from people who don't think like you do, which IMO is logical. Those who make it definitive even though we know damn well it isn't, that it is a relative, prespective-based thing. _________________
