I had this big long thing typed up about how lame it is to tell someone they're not worth arguing with when they have presented you with several valid arguments. I also included a list of reasons why the "opinions can't be right or wrong" thing is ridiculous.

Oh but I deleted it. I swear.

You're just trolling now, it seems.

But, in my opinion, serious home playing can be done, to a point. Still, what you haven't done is present any solid arguments so I'll present one.

I've played PA DDR at home and got an AA with rings (full combo) on Jerk It Out Expert while playing PS2 DDR Supernova using a modded Cyphergroup ignition-style pad. Mods in use were 1.5x and Note. Difficulty setting was default (4 out of 8). I'm just using that song as one example, as it is a slower tempo 7-foot difficulty song, because it's one that I realistically could probably AAA one of these days. (Arguments of how I suck, how Expert seven footers don't count, and so on will be ignored.)

Does that mean I can be reasonably confident that I could do that well in the arcades? Yes, it does, assuming a well maintained DDR Supernova arcade machine. Does that mean I can claim my home score is exactly the same as it would have been the arcade? No, it doesn't, because the Cyphergroup ignition style pad doesn't have recessed arrows and doesn't require as much pressure to trigger the arrows. Does that mean I could claim that as a Supernova AA? For home, yes, I would claim that I have an Expert AA... but for arcade, definitely not, since I didn't score that in the arcade.

Nah, I was making a point, I just decided to phrase it in a manner similar to what cfusion did earlier.

I agree completely. But what cfusion was saying is that it's dumb to be a serious home player. It is dumb to think that playing at home is no easier than the arcade (where the Perfect window is a lot smaller), but there's certainly nothing wrong with tracking your progress at home and striving to improve (which is my definition of a serious player).

Heh, thanks.

(What I was attempting to do with my previous post was randomly quote an interview where Ryan Leaf snapped at the poor guy for no reason at all. Now that I think about it, I'm pretty sure Leaf swore at him too.)

ANYWAY.

Back on the recent subject of discussion, I think that, while home play is obviously not the same as arcade play, it can be a help in arcade preparation, at least to an extent (While I could probably never hope to match my home scores in an arcade, it's not as though I'm going to visit an arcade and magically start failing Light mode, either). Likewise, it's quite possible, and arguably easier (From a convenience standpoint; it's certainly easier from an absolute difficulty standpoint), to become a serious home player than it would be a serious arcade player (Though said home player won't be as good as a serious arcade player).

Wow, I like parentheses.

Interesting. This thread went from already bad to worse, and now completely off topic.

There's another thread for your little "Home Version vs. Arcade" arguement.

Does anybody have any information about support for ITG machines? Imagine the hard drive fails, is the machine owner then out of luck?

***

I do hope that Konami improves their hardware... it is not quite up to par with marvelous timing.

As for Mike from Santee's ITG survival scores, he has 11/18 (only 4/9 on single). Few people play survival, fewer still play survival doubles. Do correct me if his GS is not current, I'd be interested in his latest scores.

I'll miss ITG: the hard charts were mostly fun, the expert charts were challenging, the music was less irritating, and the UI was better. Most of all, though, I will miss Roxor's involvement with the community.

edit: I guess I came late to the discussion. I'd still like to know about future hardware support for ITG.

tell that to the people with 98+s on IR. that is a completely moronic statement; and i have personally witnessed many SDPs and full marvelouses before.

he hasnt played itg since whenever his final score was submitted. he's currently working on marvelous attacking the supernova internet ranking; a feat that should be impossible, since the marvelous window is so small, the hardware cant cope with it. sarc.gif

And I've gotten many SDPs and full marvs before. I still think the hardware is not good.

Stop being belligerent.
