So again, why would Konami produce an arcade mix when one already exists with the capability to play anything? Is an interface or some new oni courses worth the cost of a new cabinet? Yeah right.

Wow... Nearly everything in this entire thread seems pointless once you read this... That's a better point than I could have made trying my hardest. I had completely forgotten about that. Would Konami or someone be able to sue arcades for having such a hacked machine? Is that even within their power? Anyone want to talk about this stuff?

Konami could give a damn about what goes on with their machines. I emailed them CONSTANTLY about someone using a PS2 in a crapcab with the PS2 version of DDR Extreme US.

You do know that most of the US DDREXs are bootlegged, right? laugh.gif

Unless you whore out ITG and don't play DDR enough to get used to its syncing, AAAing is much easier than ****ing. I've never seen someone look at a **** and say "well, that's not as impressive as AAAing it on DDR". Every 9 from Extreme has been AAA'd many times over, but there are still several 9s on ITG2 that have not been ****'d at all. ITG's timing window is more strict.

Pretty sure every Expert 9 has been quad starred, so any Hard 9s are very likely to be done once someone is bored enough to. (edit: on singles).

Why? I don't know a ton about SM, but ITG seems to have been fairly successful with it. If DDR used Stepmania, we'd finally get real triplets.

I agree. I really like stepmania's engine. It way nicer than ddr's in my opinion.

You obviously have never seen Go 60 Go hard.

And the stepmania engine is FAR superior to DDR's engine.

Thanks for just skipping over the post where I cited my technical concerns with the Stepmania engine. Describing it as "nice" somewhat indicates that you don't really know what it is I'm talking about.

I think you greatly overestimate the staying power of R21. Without preview clips, background images, videos, and song banners, it's just going to look like cruft that's hacked together.

Also, you lose the Internet ranking system and competitive high-score ranking on custom songs. Custom songs can't go in Marathons (as far as I know). And there's always the possibility for new gameplay modes. Not if you stick with R21.

So, basically, there's plenty of reason to upgrade. It's something neat to play with, but a hacked cabinet really has a lot more to offer than an R21-enabled cabinet, and I'm personally of the belief that anyone who cites R21 as a "endgame maneuver" to dancing games is doing nothing but having sour grapes over the perceived "loss" of In The Groove. In case I didn't spell it out enough for you...that's "fanboy".

I'm aware of how ridiculous it can be to try to FA that, I'm just saying that I don't think it's that unreasonable to assume it could be quad-starred given a reasonable length of time.

Mit Man: The reason Konami would publish another ITG game is to create another revenue stream.

Think of it as the difference between Soul Calibur and Tekken. Both put out by namco, both fighting games, but there's differences between the games and they both sell. (Not a 100% accurate analogy, but it's similar)

Now for Konami to move onto it's next conquest:

Dance Factory

(by Codemasters)

Their may have already been a law suit, but Konami only allowed Dance Factory to exist because the up and down arrows were switched. Then...
In supernova Konami set up a 'Drill' that SWITCHED the up and down arrows!

That is what you call taking advantage of everything.

My point is that I doubt that Konami wouldn't take advantage of ITG 3 or even higher if they owned the songs and game

I can't believe some of the things I'm reading on this thread.

"Hopefully Konami will continue the ITG franchise"

Konami had one intent with this lawsuit from the very beginning, and that was to destroy ITG entirely.

I see no reason at all for this to have changed with the settlement.

I think the Kübler-Ross model is appropriate for this topic.

Quote:

1. Denial and isolation - The "No, not me" stage.: "This is not happening to me."
2. Anger - The "Why me?" stage.: "How dare you do this to me?!" (either referring to God, the late person, or themselves)
3. Bargaining - The "If I do this, you’ll do that" stage.: "Just let me live to see my son graduate."
4. Depression (mood)|Depression - The "It's really happened" stage.: "I can't bear to face going through this, putting my family through this."
5. Acceptance - The "This is going to happen" stage.: "I'm ready, I don't want to struggle anymore."

ITG is dead, let it die, and be grateful for R21.

Okay then. If you look through the Recall ranking for your average DDR 9, it's probably going to have about 1000 scores submitted, and 100 or more of them will be AAAs. Compare that to an average 9 on GS, where you'll see about the same number of scores but usually less than 20 ****s (and often less than 10). My point was that AAAing is usually way easier than ****ing; I just used a bad example.

Maybe Konami will wake up and smell the coffee and realize Roxor's ITG is doing better!

Now maybe they'll make better harder songs rather then shortening up pop songs to make them 7's.

If everything will be running normally, I'll be OK.

I just hope Konami doesn't make ItG easier. We need something that can expand to be harder than 10's...and ACTUALLY have a rating that is different...I wouldn't mind if Konami made up to 15 footers...as long as everything was separated neatly...FaXX should be an 11...if anything konami needs to fix DDR first, and the only thing that really needs to be fixed is the rating system...

wow I'm just ranting...

SUMMARY: DON'T MAKE ITG EASIER TO APPEAL TO NEWBIES. VETRAN PLAYERS NEED HARD SONGS

The only way to find out is to just wait. I personally feel that ITG is dead forever. If Konami decides not to continue it, they will just wait for it to die. ITG players can boycott SuperNOVA, and just play ITG2. They can boycott the 10th main installment of DDR as well, and stick to ITG2. They can boycott the 11th main installment, but they will still only be left with ITG2.

I've noticed this problem with beatmania players. I have a friend who loves beatmania, but hates IIDX. The problem is, they stopped making beatmania I and III. All he has left are beatmania games that he hasn't played yet. (which doesn't even apply to ITG players, since there are only two games.) One day he will have played every song and soon after pass every song and eventualyl grow BORED of every song. The only options are to quit beatmania (ITG) or move to IIDX (DDR) which steadily progresses.

I still wonder about the hacking of the machines though. Konami will end up losing more money on it than they did with EXTREME machines, since they won't even buy a copy from somone who had originally bought the game at least once, all they need are simfiles. Maybe wait until the soundtrack or home version comes out after an unsuccesful AC session, and then all arcades have the new songs without ever having purchased a machine. (since new DDR games seem to need new machines) Which would probably result in a negative CS session as well.

Of course, thatwould only happen if super ITG fanboys really went out of their way. riiight.gif

NOTE: I am SO damn tired... I probably just typed a paragraph about family guy and toilet plungers. I keep blanking out and am too lazy to read that over, so i really hope i made sense, even if i was wrong or something.... -_-

I'd love to know what makes this any less likely to be a "loss", to the point of ridiculing those who think it is. It's not like there's precident for this sort of thing or anything.

The new version of DVD Decrypter is going to be ace, it must be with all the time Macrovision have spent since acquiring the program rights.

Oh wait..

This needs to happen for both DDR/ITG for both of the franchises (even though they're both under Konami) to really innovate at all. SM is almost a mess because of the coding I'm really surprised that it doesn't crash more often then it does.

It really really, needs to be rewritten.

I ridicule when you put me in such a position to. Scale it back and we can talk rationally.

Apples and oranges and you know it.

Here's a so-so example - Linksys makes products that function well on a low-end scale, and can be hacked to meet or beat features in some Cisco products. Cisco buys Linksys. Rather than simply kill off Linksys and continue charging extra money for Cisco products, Cisco is continuing the Linksys brand while still offering Cisco for those who would prefer it.

The idea of a company buying a competing product from a competitor is not exactly foreign. It's not common, but it's certainly not rare either.

Unless you're one of those people that thinks Konami is taking In The Groove just to shut it down and spite you. In which case, I don't think you're going to be happy in any case so you should just get on with your life and quit being emo.
