Actually, Andamiro stopped manufacturing cabinets for ITG2 quite a while ago. Roxor has since been producing dedicated cabinets on their own. _________________

If there's anything I like about this decision more than anything, it's 2 things.
1) ITG is difficult, but has crap songs. If Konami does keep ITG going, I'll be a lot more interested since there will more likely than not be some better music put in than all the electronic crap they keep cramming in there, lol. (Not to say it's all bad, but I can't play for that long without getting a headache from all the bass and synth lines)
2) Mods. ITG completely overpowers DDR with mods. While some are ridiculous, some are actually fun. I'm sure the reason we didn't see more mods in Supernova was because ITG already had them. And they didn't want to prod any more then they had to because of the lawsuit. Now that Konami has acquired ITG, perhaps if there's a new DDR down the line they'll throw in some better mods and such.
And just to end this off. Supernova was originally thought of by North American Konami. ITG was also North American created. I'm gonna throw this out there to the wind because I haven't been reading up on any of this, but I'm guessing they'll try to work something out with the ITG creation team about all of this. Especially since there's such a big fan base for both games. Who knows. Maybe we'll get a better interface for DDR/ITG. As much as people dispise the fusion of the two games. I would love to have Konami style songs, throw in a challenge chart to em that are ITG-like, keep ITG's spiffy percentage and ranking idea, and throw it all together with DDR's colorful graphics and videos. Konami's new stop and go song strategy for difficulty (Chaos, Fascination Maxx, and FAXX (eternal love mix) just isn't cutting it for me, lol. |

Does arcade SuperNOVA have a Survival mode?
The PS2 version of DDR SuperNOVA certainly does have an unlockable Survival mode, and it almost looks as if this Konami ITG acquisition was known long enough in advance such that DDR SuperNOVA PS2 was an attempt to bridge the gap between DDR players and ITG players. |

I was just thinking that this could mean a LOT more challenge stepcharts. Wouldn't be bad. It would ruin their special qualities a little, but still, we need more use.
Konami could take some really good paths with this, like more modes, mods, etc., but they could also take some bad ones, like toss away ITG without letting it influence DDR. Let's wait and see (calmly, too) _________________

Hopefully they get rid of it and stop all ITG home versions. Get this game off the shelves. RoXoR will probably just pull another stepmania machine will different skins and note carts out and call it something different. ITG fanboys will obviously love it. _________________

What is sad about the argument is that a lot of people aren't even considering the legalities of the case when they voice their opinion. Regardless of who you think had better charts or songs, the law allowed Konami to protect their IP rights on the cabinet and game (does the interface count as trade dress? It's been a while since I took that law class in college). I second the opinion that, like the first time this came up, we just wait until someone with a more correct interpretation comes forward. |

I'm just hoping the only thing that changes is DDR's stepcharts. They should leave future chart making to the ITG team for both DDR and ITG. |

dammit, i was hoping that andamiro was gonna buy roxor! Anyone who has played on an andamiro ITG cab knows what im talking about. IN fact, i think i'm gonna go play ITG2 tomorrow night just because the cabinet was so amazing. Unfortunately, i dont think my arcade has the R21 patch, so no DDR on a better cabinet for me...
my relationship with ITG can be described as "meh." I hated it for a while, but since 1 arcade got ITG2 before i had any DDR cabs around here, i just played it a lot and it grew on me. I liked DDRs music better, but ITG had some really fun stepcharts. I really liked the music by spacekatz, crispy, and the song vertex. Sure, i thought a good 50% of the stepcharts were crap, but the ones that were good TOTALLY ROCKED!!!
Do i like DDR better? Yeah, but thats just me. I can see why a lot of ITG-fanboys/girls exist, the music is more electronica and the stepcharts were much harder(in fact, most of em' were too hard for me). I liked ITG because it mixed my dance games up a bit with out switching them up too much(like PIU, but i still LOVE PIU!!).
I hope Konami realizes ITG did something they failed to do for 3 years: gave us more to dance to at arcades.
Thanks for the good times roxor. _________________

Yeah, seriously, if someone accuses me of being a Roxor/ITG fanboy, screw them. The two games actually feel different and I tend to like what came out of Roxor more. I like the harts, I liked the music, I liked the difficulty.
I love DDR, don't get me wrong. I play it all the time, but in all honesty, Extreme got old and Supernova is buggy. ITG was a great new approach at 4-panel arrowsmash.
So, I hope know one gets pissy when I say this sucks for people who liked ITG.
PS: The term fanboy is pretty gay. Are we NOT supposed to prefer a game over another? Is liking Halo more than Quake a sin? Is playing WoW but not Everquest2 a sin? Last time I checked, people were free to have their opinions about what games they liked and played. If it calls me a fanboy for prefering ITG over DDR, whatever...because seriously, that's just prety dumb.
No charts like Habanera 1 Doubles or Summer Expert are going to come out of Konami probably, and well, that sucks. _________________

The one thing were all forgetting is ITG is not for everybody. Im not a huge fan of ITG, or its dedicated cabinet.
"But the Cat 88! How could you not like a pad that works!"
When it feels, in my opinion, like an Ignition 2 stuffed up with cardboard and packaging peanuts, then I can not like it. I dont hear the pad when I play on ITG2 dedicabs, and it throws me off bigtime. I would rather play on a poopy DDR pad, then a good ITG2 pad, for that reason. but as I said, thats my opinion and nobody here has to take it seriously.
Seriously, Dance Dance Revolution and In the Groove are two totally different games. Konami may produce ITG3, they probably wont. If anything we will see a trickle of ITG songs on the next few DDR home versions.
Now for Dan's Master Plan to Get Everyone to Shut Up. OK operators cooperate with me on this:
Step 1. Identify your cabinet, and follow the approprate instructions in Step 2.
Step 2 - Dance Dance Revolution 1st-7th, Extreme, any Dancing Stage other than SuperNOVA:
Order and Wait for a Dance Dance Revolution/Dancing Stage SuperNOVA upgrade kit.
Step 2 - Dance Dance Revolution/Dancing Stage SuperNOVA:
Make sure you install the patch disc.
Step 2 - In the Groove 1:
Get a ITG2 Upgrade kit from a Distributer, Install it, Install R21 and enable custom songs.
Step 2 - In the Groove 2 (Upgrade or Dedicab):
Install R21 and enable custom songs.
Step 2 (all):
Register your location on www.ddrfreak.com and www.bemanistyle.com
Step 3:
Clean the Pads
Ok now for the user side of this:
Step 1: Refer your operator to this post.
Step 2: Shut the Hell Up.
Thats just my 2 cents. _________________

Here we go:
HP Computers owns the Compaq line of computers. Both are even manufactured in the same factory, just on different assembly lines. Why didn't HP simply dump Compaq when they acquired them? Because there were people who trusted Compaq but not HP, and squelching off the brand would do very little to increase their profits. So, HP continued manufacturing Compaq as well as it's own brand, catering to both parties and raking in the cash from both brands.
It would be very foolish for Konami to simply cut off the head of ITG now that they have it, there are arcade owners that were (and still are) eagerly awaiting the release of ITG3, just as there are those arcades that prefer DDR. The ITG fanbase is ENORMOUS at this point, and to say that "oh, they'll go play DDR because they've got nothing else to play" is self-deception.
Should Konami squelch off ITG, the fanbase will more than likely begin making custom songpacks for r21, and I'd be willing to bet that several of the step artists for ITG will contribute steps for these "unofficial" packs to at least help the survival of their vision for dance games. | I agree with this. For every reason I can think of, as long as Roxor decides to work with Konami, ITG will still be made.
And yes, I post here too. |

There are more armchair lawyers in this thread than on Slashdot. |
This snippet is pretty ironic. No, the statement isn't specific, but I would argue that owning the intellectual property to a game series is not the same as owning the individual components that make up this series. That is what I would classify as Roxor's assets. If Konami had acquired Roxor, that's different, but what they have acquired is the rights to one of Roxor's products.
I don't know any more than you do, so don't accuse others of internet lawyering and then definitively state what IS going on like you have any more of a clue than the rest of us.

Wow, does the existance of another dancegame bother you that much? Surely I'm not the only one here who remember the idiotic "pump vs ddr" arguments and thinks that treating dancegames like sports teams is stupid. _________________

One can only hope that DDR next buys Stepmania and migrates DDR over to the Stepmania engine. |
Stepmania is open source software. Its free. It will always be free, in some form, because up till alpha 18 of 3.9, it was GPL code, which cannot be bought or sold. and DDR wouldnt do the buying, Konami would. _________________

I wouldn't argue either way at this stage.
It depends on the definition of "intellectual property rights" used here. IPR (when used as a vague blanket term that I despise) is not just designs, patents and trade secrets, etc., but also includes copyright, which would subside in... amongst other things, the programming and the graphics. Of course, the difference between IPR (as a vague term) and IPR (as defined in whatever agreement has been reached in the settlement) remains to be seen.
It may be that Konami own all those too, but one (rather vague, IMO) statement on RoXoR's website lacks enough information to be able to establish this, so this thread is almost entirely speculation filled.
Anyone seen the wording of the actual legal settlement reached...? Didn't think so. _________________

Alright, this statement really pisses me off. The ITG1/2 components were a HUGE improvement over DDREX AC. The game ran at a smooth 60FPS, it had a good looking interface, and the song select screen gave us all the information we needed to know.
If you're going to base a game based on the Graphics (ESPECIALLY the BGVideos, which you shouldn't even be looking at while playing) and not the gameplay, go play something else. DDR isn't for you, it's running on 6 year old modified hardware. </rant> |

Erm..playing DDR for about five or six years now..I have trained myself to only look at the arrows from the corner of my eyes. Sorry if I want something more impressive to look at! You have no right to tell me if DDR is for me or not. Also, I dont really care if I make you mad.

Survival mode appeared in Dance Dance Revolution EXTREME 2 over a year ago. There is also a mode called "Survival" in In the Groove 2. Despite these two modes from two different games sharing a name, the implementation is completely different. In DDR's case, Survival is a form of Endless mode where you play one song after another with one challenge life bar (four lives), but you don't get ANY recharges after songs. Four mistakes, period, and the game ends. In ITG's Survival mode, you have to earn time to complete your songs by getting lots of superlative judgments on your steps, else time will run out before you reach the end. _________________
