imo, i doubt Topway would care anyway. They've been manufacturing for RO for years.

The worst thing that could happen is that RO will have Topway make their guitars for them.

Does this mean that the controller is compatible with Guitar Freaks?

It's an amplifier. It makes sound louder. It should work with any game you throw at it.

As far as the counter-suit goes: nothing today has made me laugh harder. I can't wait to see how this turns out... RO deserves this, for being stupid...

laugh.gif That's funny. RedOctane should be punished for making the Ignition 3.0 and butchering ITG's lyrics. I've bought $20 softpads that worked better than my Ignition and suffered more abuse, and the $40 discount I got on the Ignition wasn't worth it. I would've bought ITG if it wasn't for the lyrics *gets shot*. Stupid reason, probably, but I seriously didn't want to buy it just for the stupid censorship, but let's not get into that.

I'm laughing really hard on the inside, but it reminds me of the Konami lawsuit, which would make me sad if Konami or RoXoR's dancing game career died because of it.

Ah that's interesting:
"RO: TAC, you're totally ripping us off and hurting our buissness."
"TAC: No, you're ripping off Topway! Go away."
"RO: Actually, the reason why our guitars look like Topway guitars is because Topway is making them for us! Aha! Now you're ripping us off!"

That would never happen though. Either Konami's original arcade controller is the basis for both of them, or, there is no protection for these products and you can only trademark the brand name. The difference between DDR and GF is that DDR is a complete invention of someone (Konami). The 4-panel dance controllers never existed, the gameplay never existed, and the concept never existed. So Konami acquired both patents and trademarks for DDR. Okay, fine. However Guitar Freaks was not completely new to planet Earth. If I were to go to the uspto and attempt to patent the toy guitar, they'd laugh at me. It doesn't matter that I'm using it for a video game or that I simulate real guitar sounds - we have electric guitars too. And on the trademark side all of these guitars look like other famous guitars. Trade dress my ass - you all look like Fisher Price. Either you're intentionally copying a Gibson for the look or you're trying to be original and distinguishable. You can't have it both ways.

The packaging of the product and use of RO's buissness trademark are still decent claims. I'll give RO that much credit.

What about the NES Power Pad? The only difference there was the number of buttons and the fact that the pad was reversable.

...Oh, and that the Power Pad sucked. riiight.gif

I could understand wanting them to have packaging that looked different from the original product, but Konami had GF way before RO learned how to wipe it's buttocks. And GF rocked. Only reason GH does better in the US is because of the American songlist. We like our classic hits, even if they are only crappy cover songs. GF still owns among the J-Pop/Rock fans. It just depends on your flavor, and there's a lot more people in the US who would hear Ozzy than Ayumi. Sad but true. v riiight.gif

Nice post on the Topway Magical Guitar. I actually bought that a few years ago, and it had the five button deal, the tilt sensor, and I find it better than the RO control. As good as the RO Guitar was, it started losing accuracy in the button presses. Oh yeah, the TAC and Topway guitars can work with GF and sub for GH, just w/o the whammy.

It's their own story. All TAC did was take the design and say "We can make it better." Refer to the links to RO a page or two back. They took a design and said "We can make it better."

I think they'll get ordered to change the look of the packaging at the least. Hopefully it'll stop there. A level headed judge would take into consideration that RO did the exact same thing and turn this whole thing around. Just because someone has filed a suit doesn't mean they've lost already, all we can do is wait and see where this goes. My Ignition (yes, the blue/pink one whose design they modded from Konami) still gives me performance I can't get from another pad, barring a metal Flux. But I cannot support this company any longer should they put TAC out of business and that pad is gone. Haven't heard of TAC before this, but I'll support them against RO if those greedy DDR/GF copying bastards win.

I still want to say what this "former" RO employee has to say in defense to RO. Because apparently we don't know anything.

...Which further illustrates my point that the DDR Dance Pad controller is by no means a completely original concept.

I'm sure I could do less than that if I really wanted to.

And does saying the words "ITG" and "fanboy" suddenly cause you to appear, or what? I mean, we know you're not exactly a neutral party, Houou...

I stopped reading your awful post once I laughed aloud after reading this line, although I should've known better than to read more than five words from someone named "DDRManiacMark."

Why? Is that not COMPLETELY TRUE?
