Of course, once you fail, that's it. Your bar should not come back up after reaching 0.

Actually, on SuperNOVA, your bar CAN come up again after reaching 0. But if you failed at any point, it WILL fail you out at the end of the song.

In all honesty, you REALLY have to play quite poorly to not be able to clear a 1-foot Beginner song, and I would think (or hope) that most people would have the foot-eye coordination to clear such an easy stage on their first time playing the game, even if they just barely muddle through it.

Aww you must be new, I'm sorry. ;P

The ONLY advantage of working at an arcade where DDR is right next to the redemption counter is getting to witness this fact. People will stand and watch the arrows go by, step on the panels when the arrows appear at the bottom, get frustrated and show how stupid the game is (really how stupid they are) by running around in place and acting crazy, push the start button as though that were the point of playing, or ask for their money back because the game is broken.

Personally I am glad it is like this. It just gets the new kids out of the way and means more playtime for me.

ill second that this is one of the funnyest things to watch

Then how do you explain the fact that 99% of the best players use speed mods?

because they make the game easyer to score on thus looking like your a better player (a AA on PSMO 1x is far more impressive than a AAA with a speed mod) and besides when they were first introduced speed mods lowered foot difficulty

If you're comparing a speed-modded PSMO AAA with a x1 low SDG (say, less than 5 Greats), then I would say there's a slight possibility that the SDG is more impressive (barely). Anything beyond that, no. PSMO is much more of a test of step difficulty than reading.

What's to stop me from saying that since speed mods are on all of the newer DDRs, x1 makes the game harder to score on, thus making it look like you're a worse player?

lol-worthy

yeah, you're right. 50 greats on PSMO 1x sure is better than 0 greats on 1.5x. By far. After all, putting it on 1.5 basically hands you those perfects, and then some. laugh.gif

Of course it's default. Do you really think they would make it so that the game always started on x3? It would be confusing to beginners and annoying to everyone who didn't play on x3.

Furthermore, you can't bring "it's not default so it's less impressive" into this because it's not even always true. Flat isn't default, but it sure makes reading slow songs harder.

I'm gonna make a new Godwin's Law that says that debate on DDR Freak has gotten pointless when it invokes speed modifiers.

And I'm going to agree with that. Screw speed mod debates; the fact that virtually all of the good players use speed mods speaks for itself.

the only thing it says is that the good players like to bolster their scores by making the game easyer to read

You should have stopped there.

This is simply continuing the debate... -_-;

Okay, screw speed mod debates. Period.

What does it speak, exactly?

We can debate this pointlessly for days, but there's one thing that is undeniably true: in most cases, it is harder to PA on 1x than it is with speed mods. So I think "virtually all of the good players" do that to make reading easier. The game offers free assistance; they take it. It's just like the EO modes in most ports of Capcom vs. SNK 2. If you weren't aware, turning EO on makes it so special moves can be done with a simple flick of an analog stick, rather than the joystick+button combinations most players use. It's not going to win matches for you, but you don't have to expend as much effort to get the moves to work.

People who don't use the EO modes in CvS2 generally look down on the people that do, because it takes less effort to perform the moves. But when the guy using EO kicks the non-EO guy's buttocks, the non-EO guy can't say the EO guy cheated, or that he did anything the game didn't allow, or that he did anything wrong. The fact was, the EO guy used his moves at the right time, and won. The non-EO guy can be as elitist as he wants, and he might complain that the EO guy got free help, but the simple fact is that non-EO guy lost in a fair match.

The DDR speed mod thing is no different, no matter what anyone says. Period. 1x guys can play however they want, but at the end of the day, a AAA is a AAA. The game gives out free help. If you refuse it, good for you, but someone who accepts it is just as entitled to that AAA as you are.

PS: I play on 1x.

I'm pretty sure this debate is over.

What, now that you've weighed in?

How about this - no more speed mods debate in this thread ever. At all. Not even just saying "Yeah, this stupid debate is pointless." No parting shots or anything.

yyr, I'm not bagging on you or anything, I'm just saying that your post is inviting people to restart the debate.

Yes. Individual song scores and course leaderboards are both wiped.

I said that because I have no idea how someone would be able to debate that. But I guess if someone wants to let me know, they can do it with PMs.

Hopefully this doesn't count as continuing to debate...I just wanted to say that I agree with everything you said, and that I too use 1x most of the time.
