my friend and I are starting a DDR club for our school and we need some tips on how clubs work....we're thinking of meeting up at a local LAN gaming center or a near-by arcade after school a few times a week. I was just wondering if anyone who is currently in a DDR club has any tips for us regarding things such as advertising and getting are school to approve it. As of now, are plan is to give info via a video during announcements and posting posters in the halls. _________________

My school has a video gamers club. If you want to do this, try posting flyers and such, try to get it up on the school announcements. Do a demonstration in the cafeteria if your school allows it. Mine did, and we play every thursday. As for convincing the school to accept it, get backed up by the Physical education department by appealing to their fitness concerns. Tell them about how much excersize you can get while playing. _________________

We have one at our library (actually it is an anime club but we have DDR set up). Best thing you can do is post up flyers around the school, or if it is not limited to school, put them up around arcades, video game stores, and the like. _________________

k, in my ddr club (which I founded, so yeah, I know what I'm talking about) we first got a teacher (we atleast need a teacher-sponsor for our clubs just like a teacher in class that doesn't need to be tought) to get into the idea by A: providing our proposal. and B: providing information on what this brings to the school.
Then, once we got her approval, we posted many a poster all around the school, with a date when to try out (so we could filter out lamers, but not necessarily n00bz) and got a few announcements (do you have video announcements or something? cause that is wicked) getting people aware, and talking. Then for our tryout, we took note of everyone's enthusiam and skill level and made our cuts from that. (the reason why people needed to be cut was, with limited amount of play time, we cant have 30 people waiting to play, that's too many.) We cut it down to 15, and honestly, about 10 regularily show, and that's plenty.
For what we actually do, we meet in a room 1 day a week at lunch and play ddr. Sometimes someone volunteers to bring their own ps2 or xbox or w/e were gonna play on. We obviously mix up the games to get lots of variation. It's lots of fun....gl |
