|
|
hi guys, i think i got everything you need to play DDR
got a dance pad and a computer
i just dont know what kinda song i should start with
i just pick random songs and i dont know how to practice with them
sometimes i pick a really hard song and i cant get through it
sometimes i pick a really easy song and i get bored with it really really fast
is there a tutorial that will guide you step by step on how to master DDR or you just have to figure it out on your own?
Can someone gimme some tips or guides to how to get started and become a pro?
i got Stepmania and i can download most songs |

Have you looked at the difficulty scale when you select a song? Songs are given a difficulty on a scale of 1-10 on DDR, 1-13 on ITG, and 1-15 or so with Stepmania. The lower the number, the easier the song. Start with 1s and work your way up as you get better. _________________

Just whore songs you can pass until you get better at them. You'll be able to move up the difficulties eventually, but it takes practice, and you can't become awesome overnight. _________________

You get better by doing lots of hard 6's. Then do 7's. If you fail them, keep doing them until you don't fail them.
EDIT: I was skimming and read the thread title as "DDR, how to get retarded" |

Stepmania's a big help in my experience.
Do you ever just use the directional keys on the keyboard? When I'm tapping away at the keys, the rhythm of the steps kinda gets into my brain, and I can apply that to when I'm using my feet. You can also set the fail to "end of song" so that way you can play the whole song and figure out which parts you're weakest at. If you knew that already, sorry
Anyway, just keep practicing, and you'll eventually just get better. You'll be able to follow the steps. One day, you'll pass that song you failed and you'll be like "Holy crap, I can do it!" It'll be a Dance Dance Revelation |

are those 4-6 foot songs actual DDR songs? you should Download some ITG songs. or...pick your favorite song, and get better acquainted with edit mode. with your favorite song, make a stepfile, exaggerating your weaknesses to help you get better. (stuff like gallops, crossovers, and jackhammers)
if you can do 6 footers, start doing 7 and 8 footers on standard. they're not as hard as heavy songs at the same foot rating IMO.
in addition to looking at the foot rating, look at the groove radar, you should be looking for something about 50-70% up on voltage, 50% up on stream. a little bit of chaos. jumps and freezes don't have that much affect at that level.
songs like that... (feet in parentheses)
Orion .78 light (6)
Ska a go go light (6)
La Senorita Virtual light (7)
Ready Steady go light (7)- this is probably a 7 because of the speed changes. it's more like a decent 6.
if you have any questions or whatever, feel free to PM me.
BTW: Aunt Ant, your avatar is awesome. _________________

Ready Steady Go Light seems more like a 5 to me. _________________

i just got a question w/ stepmania though

In the options menu, you can set the number of stages to Event Mode, which makes it so that you do not go back to the main menu until you quit. _________________

If you haven't already done this, I suggest you do. Go into Options, Machine Options, then "Menu Timer" to turn off the timer. _________________

...on the SM website, the plaguemix series is pretty good. Bitches is a good song. (although the banner is kinda scary)
Chaoz Japan- awesome song
Z- almost as good.
if you haven't already, download an MP3 of a song you really like, and make step files for it. (there are instructions at the SM website)
and also, have you gotten any characters/themes/announcers/note skins etc.? if so, i'm wondering what theme you use.
you should try...
Sana Morette ne ente standard (or heavy)
chaoz japan standard
Z standard (or light if it's too hard)
anything that has the words MAX (light), Trip Machine(light or standard), PARANOiA (light), Healing Vision(light), Orion.78(if you do Civilization mix, try standard, i'll bet you Die if you think light's hard), CHAOS (heavy, little enabled), and especially Remember you (OMG this is THEEE HARDEZT $QN9 EVER!!!!!!!!!!)
BTW: how good are you on keyboard?
with that out of the way, this belongs more in the simulators forum (not DDR) at least i think... hmmmmmm.
Konami doesn't own SM, if they did, question would only be a 10. _________________
