My down arrow on one of my softpads are not working, You have to stomp on it orit will press randomly if you press it and when you hold it sometimes it reads it as me double stepping. So is there anything to do or is my pad gone? Thankyou for your time.

It's a softpad. When this happens, the softpad is done and it's time to get a Cobalt Flux.

Its gone. Don't get a flux, they suck.

And for those wondering why I think fluxes suck, I think they suck because:
-They don't feel like the arcade
-Not very sensitive
-You can't step near the edges of arrows, it has to be in the middle (otherwise, you get pad misses, boos, goods, even pad greats!)
-home metal pads in general have never felt very stable to me (meaning they probably are, I just don't like feeling like the pad is about to snap in half because its so thin)
-I don't like the sound it makes when you step

My post has been edited, showing why I feel the way I do.

I've never played on an afterburner, btw. Just a Flux, RO Ignition, and a poopy TX-1000. Ignition was the best by far for me, though its much less durable then the Flux (which is the one good thing about it, I won't deny that).

I'm confused, the Ignition 3 sucks. When I got one it was broken out of the box. And what's not to like about the Flux?

fluxes are great pads once you get used to them. i hated them at first, but now i absolutely love them. I really wish i could afford one. anyhow, i just ordered a BNS sparkle DX foam pad(same as fusion...only pink!) off buynshop.com, its the only affordable pad that doesnt suck buttocks. after shipping it came out around $70....pretty good.

Jesus, must we have this variant of "buy CF" in EVERY thread?

(NOTE I said variant meaning that reccomending a CF in itself is not bad, but certain ways of doing it are irratating when repeatedly seen ad nauseum.)

You have 4 options:

1. Buy a new softpad
2. Rip out the control box and make your own pad
3. Waste your money
4. Buy a good pad... Like a CF

Down arrows seem to be an issue with softpads. I went through two softpads with broken down arrows, and now I've moved up to a RO3. You're going to have to get rid of your pad, there's no doubt about it. But I recommend taking the control box off and opening it up and getting the white foam out and saving them. You never know if you'll want to make your own pad or mod a foam pad. And now there are many choices to make about what you want. It all depends on how much you play, your skill level, and how serious you are about DDR. If you're just a casual player, you might just want to buy another softpad. If you play a little more, you'd probably want a foam pad like a DX or Ignition. And if you're really serious, a metal pad like the CF or Afterburner.

I like typing. I really do.

Wow 1 week and the pads done... The down arrow still reads just you have to stomp on it. I was thinking of taking the control box from my wireless intec pad just for now for my homemade pad then taking the wired one and use it for the home made pad... You guys are right when you say softpads go down easy. -.- thats what happends when you get a bunch of idiots stomping on softpads cause of trying to play sakura... I told my friends to stop stomping and stop playing sakura but they didnt -.-
Edit: Also I cant afford a cf but if i could thats what a would buy cause I hear alot of good stuff about it.

That's why you save your money like I am. I can't remember the last time I played DDR at home, but it'll be worth it when I get a Cobalt Flux. So yeah, you should do that too.

My down arrows on my two PS2 softpads aren't as responsive as the others, and I have only had them for two weeks max. My Mario Mix softpad work perfectly though after three weeks.

cobalt fluxes arent great, but there durable as hell. if you get one they'll probably last you 5+ years if you maintain them well. my local lan gaming centers STILL work ok and theyve had em for about 2 years now with no proper care, if you take good care of them they'll probably last a really long time and will still work great.

i dont think they're nececary for home use tho unless you HAVE to play with shoes on or are pretty heavy(like 200+ pounds). Usually, home made pads are the way to go for home use. OR if you're cheap you stick to foam pads, which work great with some gripping mods.

-Not very sensitive

Not true at all.

Another option is to make your own metal pad if you've got the time. Follow Riptide's instructions. Google it.

Yeah Im planing to make a homemade metal pad... Just I need sheetmetal and the acrylic costs alot so i need to know a cheap type of acrylic (Hopfuly like $20 for sheet of like 4'x 4'). I also need the braces but im thinking of a cheap alternative to that like plug outlet steel covers or something. Iv got everything else and im going to start construction when I get the materals... -.- Thats if I can even get a ride to home depot frown.gif . So if anyone can name some cheap alternatives I will read them cause I am kinda short on cash. Thank you on the time you took to read this E1.gif .

-You can't step near the edges of arrows, it has to be in the middle (otherwise, you get pad almosts because they make them too sensitive)
-I must weigh 400 pounds to make an inch of steel feel like it'll snap under me.
-I can't hear the music over the sucking sounds it makes when I step.
Fixed.

@ The Topic:
My softpad's down arrow works great.
It's the only pad I've ever gotten 0.00% and a 240 combo with at the same time. E13.gif
I recently performed a major surgery on it.
It's my travel pad.
By now, it's really fun to play with.
You hit the down arrow and it activates all 10 buttons on the pad! biggrin.gif
What's really great about it is that the up arrow activates regardless of where you hit the pad!
Unless (god forbid) you actually hit the up arrow. E15.gif
