I got myself a cheap DDR Pad, and right now I'm working on modding the thing. I found plastic vinyl covers at the fabric section in Wal-Mart and got a yard of that.

Can someone give me advice on getting the plywood and dense foam? I'm not sure where to find the interlocking puzzle pieces of dense, thick foam. I know they're called saftey foam mats, or something like that. I saw some at Sams Club, but they only sold packs with 8 pieces for $18, but I know I only need 4 pieces at the most. Where can I get stuff like that for the cheapest price? Can I find it at Jo-Ann fabrics, Hobby-Lobby, Home Depot, etc.?

Also should I go to The Home Depot to get plywood? Which plywood can I get that is 1/2" thick and cheapest, but still works well?

I'm looking to save money on this mod, while still doing pretty well.

I modded my 5 softpads with the cheapest 1/2" plywood and Home Depot and it worked fine. I think disgust.gif Actually, it rotated in place quite a bit. I needed to make a doubles stage out of 2 pads to stop it from rotating.

You can get the foam from Home Depot or Lowes in their flooring departments (at least that's where I got mine). They should sell it in packs of 4. For an interesting idea (if you haven't already thought of it), leave the puzzle pieces intact on one side so that if you ever mod another pad you can hook them together for doubles play.

How much did the 4 pack cost?

i'd stick with just buying that 8-pack of foam. if there ever comes a time where you need to replace the foam, you'll still have those extra 4 pieces to replace them with.

You don't really need the foam. I modded my softpad with $25.00 spruce wood and thick clear vinyl, and it's not hard of my feet at all. Stepping on foam would feel weird. biggrin.gif

About $20. I did this several years ago, so I don't really remember costs and such, and they've probably changed since then.

I just modded mine today with the wood+foam flooring mod. I got the foam at Sports Chalet for 20$. All the Home Depot's I went to didn't have it. Sports Authority had it too, but its not the multi-colored kids type. Its a gray one that you use for putting workout machines on and stuff. If you still can't find it, try one of those sports stores.

An much cheaper alternative for grip for a softpad-on-plywood mod is the non-slip material that come in rolls. Just heavily tape it on the bottom of the plywood and it won't move at all when you play (depending on the quality of the material).
