I'm planning on making a new control box for my CobaltFlux, because my original one died (Just stopped working one day. frown.gif Cold, silent death). Now, I have an original PlayStation controller (Digital. Yeah. Remember those?), and each trace for a button actually has an exposed contact. Now, what I'm asking is what do I need to watch out for when I'm soldering a wire to that kind of contact?

ground yourself, and try not to touch anything with bare hands. I learned the hard way and zapped my controller. cold death too.

i believe the original ps controller contacts required some sanding or scraping, which can be quite annoying.

From those pictures, that doesn't look like an official controller. :] But anywho. I suppose the scraping is necessary to give the solder something to grab onto.

If you can get your hands on one of the original gamestop psx controllers, that would probably be your best bet. I used one and it was dead easy to solder to (no scraping, simply circuit board layout, large contacts to solder to). It was almost as if the controller was made to be modded.

Check the current CF thread - I just did one the other day with a TX4000 box from Hong Kong (10 bucks). Fantastic, and has Xbox + PS2 to boot.

I'm sorry, I should have specified that I already have a controller and was solely asking for soldering tips.
