Tell your story about how you started playing DDR...

Hummm.. It was around august last year when I first started to play.. What inspired me to play it, was a woman I saw on the television one day talking about she lost 45 pounds playing DDR. So I though, 'hey why don't I save up so I can get me one of those DDR games'. It's not only is fun, but I lost 20 pounds playing that game.

I can kick buttocks in that game. I'm pretty damn good. All I have is AA and AAA as far as grading goes.

i played one time at the arcade last summer because my girlfriend asked me to. i only played once because there was a nerdy forty year old guy who wouldnt get off the damn thing. "yeeeeaaaah i been goin' for 'bout 5 hours straight now.." man so annoying. so i didnt play any more until about two months ago when i impulsively bought EX2 for ps2. then a couple weeks ago a i got MAX 2 on ps2.

...."If you start dying get off and let play for a little to get you back in the game.."

i said, "well, mister, perhaps at this point we need not be so concerned with death. what's more important is self-fulfillment."

therefore dying is only part of the ddr experience.

As for why i got started, my girlfriend loved to play it and so she made me play it and i found it to be extremely fun.

As for why i play it now, well me and my best friend play it to make a good name out for ddr players, in the sense that you dont have to be nerd to be good at it.

My friend in Winnipeg got me into it awhile ago (3 months). She owned the DDR Extreme 2 and always played it over the webcam. It was really the music I loved from her TV---and omg so pretty and colorful arrows D: So she suggested I get the game. I thought i would suck at it alot (it took ALOT of practice to do it in the arcade and have the stamina... Soft pads-->metal DX hard coordination).

What REALLY got me into it though? Making a bet with her. In two months I surpassed her from beginner to heavy : x (only 4 songs). Then got ITG and played that (more stamina needer...) and then went back to DDR and could pass heavy songs without breaking a sweat. Saddness. Though I still have alot of trouble reading some arrows--since I've never used the bar.

So I currently own and dont play at home anymore DDR Extreme 2, DDRMAX2, and ITG (expensive game DX). Still looking forward to the rest of the ones out there (and supernova <333)

ah... good times. i started back in the summer of 2003. i initial got interested by playing it on a 7th mix machine. i slowly got better, because in all honesty, i wanted to impress girls. after a while though, i really liked playing ddr. it was just a whole lot of fun. and the music was really cool. however, i didn't really start playing seriously till the fall of last year. i guess i'm doing pretty well so far.

I first started playing DDR in the fall of 2001, and had played as much as I can, and then stopped playing (physically I mean, I'd still play DWI every now and then) in early 2004. After thinking about it ... a lot... I've decided to finally get back into it. I ordered a flux recently, and I'll try and regain my former glory (I was pretty keen about scoring A's on most 9 footers, a small feat these days, from the sound of things)

I got started when I saw the original US DDR bundle in the local Funcoland. I had heard very little about it beforehand, and I dropped the $70 for it since a) I didn't have anything else to spend my funds on, and b) I was in a phase where I was collecting games that were considered niche titles. So I took it home under the premise that it would be obscenely easy to play through. I didn't start getting serious about it until I fell in love with the song list from 3rd mix Korean ver.2. It had all the songs I had at home, and a lot of the ones new to me were infectious as well, like Captain Jack, Butterfly Upswing, and Ba Kwo to name a few.

I stuck with it when I saw how well the local experts were playing, and I told myself that I do what they do too. That's when I started researching DDR on the net and found a young, but thorough DDRFreak.com, and that's when I started absorbing the culture, learning about 'catas' and 'full combos' and 'bar-hugging' and whatnot. I just got addicted, and couldn't get enough of it!

And that's my story... sounds like one of those old-timey recollections you find in a package of RedVines..

I have been doing it for 8 yrs and have still gone on. The first time I saw it when I was when my niece invited me to her party back in 1998. I first saw it and I was really scared, Danielle encourged me to really go on there. But, I failed and I became embrassed. Man, I thought I would never get over it.... I can still remember it now. But, I grew more and more advanced, and now I'm on Challenge and Heavy! Whoa, it took me yrs to learn a lot. So, don't ask plz because I went a long way with my training and I would like to thank my niece for getting me in DDR. I have enjoyed every bit of minute of it! And I luv playing DDR Extreme 2! It's so kl! And now, because I have DDR Ultramix 3, I'm hoping that DDR Ultramix 4 will be released soon! I heard it it'll be released in either October or November. But, basically, it was my niece who got me into this DDR. Now, I have never stopped luving it.

Ahhh... Finally something interesting to do... (Someone help me!!! I'm stuck in a place with no DDR for a second day!!)
First you need to know I'm very young and that I started playing DDR about 8 months ago.

1998 - Well, ever since I can remember, I saw big guys play DDR when I was small. The arcade was near the ferris wheel in the mall. DDR had just started and at this mall was the first DDR arcade in my country. I was 6 by that time. Maybe I had tried the game once but I would have failed miserably (Yes, even have you been mellow basic).

2004 - I grew up. I like music as heck. I bought Donkey Konga (I only had a gamecube by that time) and owned the game in two weeks.

2005 - I was 12 when I really got into DDR. I went at Disney World for march break and there was this place called disney quest. I did a couple of virtual games and then saw DDR. I wouldn't have started if it weren't for a black guy at the arcade who was playing basic and must have been 15-16. He pushed me to go on the machine.

My feet were on fire. Since the games were free (Disney World) I went from 1 footers to 3 footers. I lost all of my talent after about 6 months. I seriously forgot about DDR.

Later that year, my friend had rent DDR Mario mix the day it came out. He isn't a fan of DDR, well he is, but plays begginer. I fell in love with DDR. Well I sucked, he was worse.

I instantly became part of the DDR Freak site. Checked songlists, downloaded songs, etc. I still hadn't have any of the games! I begged my mother to rent DDR Mario Mix. The whole family played, but they were like 2 difficulties behind me. On the 3 and final day of the rent, I had passed a song on super hard. Not bad, eh?

2006 - On last christmas I recieved DDR! Best time of my life is right now, since Christmas. In 8 months I happened to convert 3 of my friends to ddr. The whole class knows what DDR is, it is the word I use always. I think they are starting to get tired about the game, but who cares.

In 1 month I had jumped to standart mode, could do a few 7 footers.
I bought DDR Max 2 the week after Christmas. I bought DDR Max the last day of school.

I can now do all 9 footers, and half of 10 footers, though I don't do them too often because they sweat me to death. I'm getting through a period of extreme changes right now. Before sports bored me to death and I did none. Still do, but now I play 10s.

I rarely play at the arcade since there is none near my house but when I play, I own all lot of 18-30 years old. (So funny to own people like that... Owned by some small kid lol)

All my money goes into DDR.

What keeps me playing DDR is the music, the new games, the challenge of getting better that will only end when I AAAA Fascination Maxx, and keeping people impressed.

i started playing in the summer of 2003. i was at six flags with my best friend sam, and we were walking around bored when we saw the DDR machine at a little arcade part of the park. i hate to admit it but i was one of the kids who thought it was dumb and secretly laughed at people playing it. well, just for kicks we decided to play it. she had known how to play already and tried to teach me. i beat her in all three songs, and she got tired, and sat down on a bench while i played about 14 more songs. i was hooked like crazy!! then i immediately got ahold of a soft pad n DDRMax2.

Today, i play heavy, 9/10 footer songs, and i also bought DDRextreme1 and 2, and a busted metal pad in the basement cuz i wore it down horribly after a good year. i lost like, 30-40lbs or so, and im waiting to get a cobalt flux, but until then, ive just been putting it on training in my room, and playing without the pad on the carpet lol. it definately gave me alot of confidence, and i give things a chance before criticizing them now.

Wow. Pretty funny actually.

I was in Florida on a school trip (usually live in NJ) and we found ourselves in the Disney Quest arcade, where I finally got up the courage to stand up in front of all those people who were really really good at these dancing games and give it a shot. Mind you there was only one DDR machine, and it was DDR US 1st Mix, which I haven't even ever seen before or since. Of course, I sucked, because I was n00b, but who wasn't the first time? And yeah, I was hanging out with my asian friend who tore it up and got a full combo on the hardest difficulty. That felt good.

Incidentally, there was no line for the DDR machine, which I now know is because it was US 1st mix, and all (six?) songs were really pretty easy. However, there were like three PIU machines which were getting a ton of attention from a lot of people who knew how to play. I still suck miserably at PIU.

But I was addicted, and spent all the rest of the time in theme parks at Universal and Disney in various little arcades, playing (generally) DDR Extreme.

That was April 2005, for a total of one year and three months of playing.

I moved to Quantico last year like Octoborish. I showed up to discover that another kid my age, Mark, lived right upstairs from me. I knocked on his door and we were friends.

Turns out he's also a phenominal DDR player. He pretty much coached me through the beginner levels. He moved a few monthes ago, but the short time I knew him he taught me a lot. I learned everything from him...my first song on Light, my first arcade machine, how to jump properly, how to lose all my newbie mistakes, and so on. By the time he left I was playing 9 footers. Still not quite where I want to be, but I'm working on it.

i was with my friends we were going to see saw 2 and we couldnt get in so we went to the arcade and i watched my friends play but i didnt play so i bought a mad catz soft pad and i played on it for like 2 days and i was already on standard soon then on heavy after 2 months

My sister, Spyro_Pika saw the arcade game at the bowling alley and I wanted to try it. I sucked and failed on a song that was about a level 2. Now those newbie days are over, and I make my moves at home on difficult maniac (Orion .78 AMeuro Mix) songs. We went through 3 soft dance pads learning. Finnally we got a metal one. Thats my story.

I started on 12/25/05, I started playing because an interactive game (without a normal controller) was interesting to me. I kept on playing because i failed my first song, which was my favorite song in the world then (Sandstorm) so i kept on trying lesson mode so i could get better. I was actually good for a beginner, I got all the way to Section 2 Lesson 10 before i started getting addicted (i kept on trying to pass it)

1998, I was at Arizona Gameworks. I usually go there every now and then. One time I went there and saw "Dance Dance Revolution" in the middle of the place. I heard about it from video game magazines and thought it was a japanese only game that I wish came here. My mouth dropped! I quickly called my brother and told him about it. He thought it was cool. He wasn't really bowled over as I was.

No one was playing, nothing. So I got up there and started playing. I played for probably....an hour straight. No one else played. I didn't read the instructions or anything. I just went with it and guessed as I went. "Have You Ever Been Mellow?" was my obvious first song. Then after that I went with "Boom Boom Dollar." I barely passed that one. Then for the third, I tried "Butterfly" and failed. So I kept trying and trying. Eventually I got Butterfly down.

I remember when playing that a lot of people would be watching. People would be like "whoa! What's this?" Then every time I went to Gameworks, I would play that game. Then after awhile, more people started to play.
