That will never happen, just as it will never happen with pretty much any music game. People will always debate about what accurate difficulty ratings are, and what a song should be and what it shouldn't be.

But there's just blatantly wrong stuff, not like "oh is Sakura a 9 or 10 lol," I mean how BotW2 is much easier than PMA or Solitary2 (in fact, I think it's about as easy as Vook), how the Novarash remix is WAY overrated at 18 (yeah, that's as hard as moonlight/phantom/wdyrw e_e), how Valenti is a 9 when Huu Yah Yeah is a 12 that's about the same in difficulty, if not easier. The closest thing to a recurring theme I can find is that they seem to think vibrating in place is hard, but twisting all over the pad is easy.

Does anyone else here find the transition into Pump doubles really difficult? I can pass every song on Crazy, but fail some 6's and 7's on freestyle. I have to bar rape just so i don't fail some of the 6's (Play on an Exceed machine).
I don't get it, maybe it's just because of the layout. But transitioning into DDR doubles was the easiest thing in the world. |

Agreed. I am not amazing at Pump yet... but I can pass all the hards on my zero machine and a few of the crazies... and I can't even play easy double... its so sad.
I also agree that the transition in ddr is a breeze... *lesigh*
BUT I need to work at getting better at hard/crazy first anyway.

Okay I recently got PIU Exceed and the soft pad pisses me off. Last time I played I failed Loner Hard (which I am perfectly capable of clearing) from random Bads and Misses.
Anyone have some thoughts on this pad? |

I have scowered the internet looking for a design for a homebuilt metal PIU pad. But it turned up nothing so I need the dimensions for the arcade dance platform. If anyone here has them.
Someone help out an addicted noob. |

Wait, if you're talking about the soft pad that come with the bundle, I just A'd Canon-D Crazy on it. It's an awesome pad.

I probably won't build one for about a month or so. But, if you are going to build one soon I can probably get measurements from the machine they put in at our local bowling alley the other day. I know one of the guys there and can get in after hours to get dimensions.
The only thing left to figure out is which method I would choose to activate the pads. So far all I've seen is Stoli and riptide's DDR pads. |

It would be my guess that DDR is much bigger in Europe than PUMP is. Konami has continually supported the DDR arcade scene there (however half-heartedly) with localized mixes that cater to what seems to be the majority of casual European players' tastes, i.e. the radio-pop songs are a big hit with casual players there, which is why European DDR mixes tend to be CRAMMED full of those types of songs, whether or not they are suitable for "dancing." As far as I know (and can guess), DDR is more popular in Japan, the U.S., Canada, and most parts of Europe. PUMP is more popular in Korea, and Mexico, (and several other Central American and South American countries?). What's bigger in the greater Asian market, though? I haven't a clue.
Anyway, I picked up PUMP EXCEED PS2 this past week at a Gamestop for $25. My only hurdle right now seems to be getting used to the layout. I can A and S anything on Normal with ease, but the 6's and up on Hard are problematic. Learning those sideways jumps (UL+DL, etc.) feels like trying to learn the diagonal jumps from when I first started playing DDR. I think part of the problem is that the soft pad gives me no real tactile feedback for my feet, so it's hard for me to learn where and how far to step from different positions on the pad. I'm used to either playing on an arcade metal platform or my RO Ignition 2.0 for DDR. There's a PUMP ZERO at the Mall of America that I can try. Is trying to learn on an actual arcade machine the way to go? I'm hoping that the dimensions between the arcade and home pads are similar enough that my legs will remember my way around the home pad once they learn their way around the arcade one.
Also, is it just me, or are some of the EXCEED PS2 songs off-synch?

Over here in the UK, Pump and DDR used to be on equal footing in 2002/2003.
While DDR was more widely distributed, Pump had a bigger following in London and seaside resorts as there were frquent Pump tournaments (Brighton, Skegness, Barry Island, Blackpool, Bournemouth, Southend, Margate etc)
Then Crown Direct, who were in charge of selling and marketing machines decided there was no money in DanceGames and quit distribution of Pump after Premiere 3. As you can guess, with no new mixes apart from imported ones Pump went downhill fast. Hence its hard to find anything above Premiere 3 in England.
Andamiro still havent found a new distributor. As Supporters we had to blag a free Zero upgrade kit from Andamiro as a bargaining tool for the Trocadero in London to hold national tournaments =/
Btw the UK WPF 206 qualifying event is on the 23rd September in Troc haha
Troc also has ITG 1& 2, Rock Fever Remix, Beatmania, EZ 2 Dancer UK Move Special Edition + Superchina, DDR Euromix 2, Supernova, Extreme, Guitar Freaks 3rd Mix and Drum Mania V so its worth a visit... If you're about turn up!!!

My concern isn't adapting home play to arcade play so much as arcade play to home play. I want to make an easier job of learning my way around the PUMP pad, and the flat, soft mat doesn't give tacticle cues for my feet to tell me if I'm stepping in the right places. I'm hoping that playing some on an arcade machine will help my feet adjust more quickly, being able to feel the difference between the elevated metal and the recessed lucite, and that I can transfer the skill with little adjustment back to the home pad and start tackling the more interesting stuff in the game.

YES, learn on the arcade. And Zero is a great mix to learn on. The arcade pad dimensions are slightly larger than the home pad. And yes, Exceed 2 SE is off-sync for most songs.

well i guess i am sorta late on this thread,but here is what i have to say about PIU.My favorite song is Dignity.I have been playing ddr for about 6 years(so i can do 10 footers and all that stuff),but ddr started to bore me,which is how i got into PIU.I love the fact that it has a whole lot of heavy metal and rock etc.,and so far i can play pretty much any song on hard mode and some songs on crazy.And as for the home pads,they are fine if you just buy some plywood and tape it on with masking tape. Seriously,why do you people spend hundreds on dollars on CFs when you can spend about 10 bucks just modding the pad...
