For some reason, i dont like the lowered buttons. I prefer raised buttons so the sessor can feel the sole of my foot. Does this pad have that problem?

the afterburner has recessed arrows lower than the actual arcade pads. the arcade pads is what i want and thats how im making my own, but i couldnt stand it if it were any lower.

after playing for many hours today on my friends 2-month old afterburner i'm borrowing, i must say wow. I decided i will make a review abaout the pad.

The redoctane afterburner. A pad so good-looking, it makes arcade pads look like hobo pads. You can tell me the arrows are too recressed, you can tell me it doesn't last long. I still love the pad. So heres my review.

Appearance- Looks totally awesome. Shiny, slick, and looks simular to an ITG cab pad, only shinier! This may be the coolest looking pad ever. 10/10

Features: Has a 3-in-1 control box for xbox, ps2, and USB, which all work perfectly. Control box has start/select buttons. No bar, but still has all the features you need to play on your systems. Also, the USB does work on macs also. 9/10

Performance: Like most metal pads, this one feels very ackward at first due to how recressed the arrows are. Now, the super-recressed arrows are a slight down sider, but once you get used to it you dont even realize it. The responce time was great(this is by default too, no mods on the pad yet). A slight downsider you cant press everywhere on the panel and have it respond, near the bottom of each panel it is unresponsive, but its father back then most players play and could be easily fixed with a sheet metal mod. Also, the pad was quite and had a slight "give" on each panel when you hit it. In spite of its flaws, this is my favorite home pad i've played on(besting the stock cobalt flux) and is a very nice pad. 9.5/10

Built Quality: This is perhaps the biggest flaw to the pad. The whole pad feels a bit cheap, and the inside doesnt look the greatest, but overall it still feels ok. I here they break rather easily, but im not sure if that is true. 6/10

Overall: If you don't mind the recression and dont kill the pad when you play, this is a nice metal pad. 9/10.

I'm in the market for a metal dance pad. I'm not a hardcore super great player, but I'm fairly good and I enjoy it. I'm 5'9" and around 140lbs., so I'm a pretty light guy too.

According to my own little research, it seems the Afterburner and the Cobalt pads are the most reliable.

Any suggestions? My main concern is reliability and having it last. My modded $30 soft pad lasted for more than six months, so I'd hope a metal pad would last me for at least a year or two.

I just got my afterburner in a few days ago. And sofar (all 5 days) its just amazing. J-POP_FOR_LIFE's review is quite accurate, I dont have any problem with the recessed arrows, I find it the over-recession (its not as big a deal as everyone's making it) is better than under-recession or none at all in other metal pads. it just trains you to lift your feet a slight bit more to not catch on edges, again, no big deal.

The only thing I disagree with J-POP_FOR_LIFE on is the built quality, I find its quite good. If I hear/feel anything clicking or seeming unusual, I just tighten any screws that I can find that are wobbly, and the sketchyness stops. My only concern is there is about a 3mm gap between center panel, and the arrows, in which crap could fall if people had dirty shoes or something (you CAN play in socks, but I dont, because I play shoes in arcades, cause socks would get poopy-dirty there, so shoes are better practice). But I'm sure if something fell down there, it'd just be a matter of unscrewing the corner brackets, removing the arrow panel, cleaning the area of problem, and reattaching the pannel, also not a big deal.

from what I've used it , I'd recommend one for sure, but thats only 6 days, and probably 30 hours of dancing (yeah, I play a fair bit). very nice, thats all I have to say about them.

You said it was better than a CF without ever playing on one?

Hey guys.

Afterburner>unmodded CF

Modded CF>Afterburner

Though if my computer could handle the USB function on my Afterburner, that'd be a pretty sweet function.

I just finished the sheet metal mod on another afterburner... I will post pics of differences in score and the sheet metal itself.

k, update, 1.5 months in (approx). My afterburner still working entirely as if new, except the B/X button isn't working at all. We ordered 3 pads (all afterburners). 1. B button doesn't work. 2. One panel cracked (this pad is used by a fairly heavy-set dude, so that's explainable, but definetely not a good thing, he's under the max weight by probably 60 pounds) 3. I dont hear about much, but no complaints, so AFAIK going strong.

My review for these definitely dropped, but they're still nice.

PS: how do I fix my B button. No exterior damage, just pressing the button (which still goes in like it should, its not stuck or anything) does nothing. And, I have about 20 days of warranty left (90 day warranty only available in continental US), do I void it by trying to fix the problem? Thx.

My B button also broke on my old Afterburner. Notify RO before your warranty is up. They should replace it for free. At least, that's what they did for me.

My reship was free, although for that situation I wouldn't know. I'd imagine it would be free. After all, it's their fault.

Thats pretty true, in the short run. In the long run (probably about 6 months), the AB will die. Slowly but surely. They just arent made that well.

O dude that sucks. I dunno why it happened but I got mine for free so I just assumed everybody did. I guess that's not the case... (This happened over a year ago so their policy may have changed.) Sorry to hear that. E2.gif
