Initially yes. However, many people have built and attached their own bars to the Cobalt Flux, and they seem to work rather well. If you dig back in the thread a bit, I think some pictures show up.

After reading around, I bought a Cobalt Flux. I'm tired of my foam pad already after a week.

you can use anything you already have that is stable as a bar. I use my dresser and pull out the top drawer and hold it as a bar. It works really good for me........except when it occasionally shuts on my fingers in the middle of a song. XD Chairs work as well. A table could work if it was 36 inches of the ground. XD Just anything basically. No need to build anything. E10.gif

You could try getting used to not using the bar

chances are, you're also too tired to play ddr =/

installing the arcade mod is basically removing 20 screws, and putting it back on.
tho trying to remove the arcade mod, and turn it into a piu mod is a nightmare without an electric drill 7__7 E15.gif

I just finished playing on my Flux with the newly installed arcade mod. I played on it without the mod for about a month already.

My scores are generally a lot higher, but I'm having a little bit of trouble moving quickly between arrows. As a result, I failed a lot of 11's and 12's that I've passed before. Hopefully I'll get used to it and be able to get high scores on hard songs biggrin.gif

I have a question about the Cobalt Flux pad.
If you get two, can they link together to play Doubles mode? I've seen a TX-1000 with that feature.

If you look at the accessories, there is a double bar to link 2 pads together.

I just need opinions for more experimented players. I have been playing ddr on and off for almost 2 years now. I had a lot of soft dance pad and I am about to be finished with the RO ignition v2.0 (surprisingly, it lasted long). I am now tempted to buy the Cobalt Flux, because all I heard is good review and they look very cool and durable. However, I am still a standard player (shame on me) and I was wondering if is still worth to pay 300$ in my situation. I am kind of tired of buying dance mat and I really don't know what my other options are... RO v3.0 got very bad review...
Also, is the fact that I am still playing SD mode could influence the durability of the mat and explains why my RO ignition pad lasted so long... Thanks

Short answer: Simply no pad measures up to the CF, besides the Konami ASC

Long answer: Even on Standard, you'll soon move up to heavy songs where a good pad is a necessity. Playing in shoes is very different and MUCH better than socks, and the CF is the only pad that handles shoes well (TX pads break, I own a broken Afterburner, and I don't hear a whole lot about the Bluesharks) I bought my CF when I was only a standard player, and i'm happy I invested. If I bought a different pad I would have soon moved up to my CF and wasted money E13.gif

BTW, I played for 10 (maybe 9 or 11 I dk) months without the Arcade mod and I recently got it and I LOVE it, get it biggrin.gif

Lucspeedy,

Thanks, they just e-mailed me saying that it was $48.00 per pad.
That seems reasonable. Everyone on eBay changes $100+ for shipping.

If I can get $150.00 more, I am going to buy one Cobalt Flux pad.
I want to buy the Doubles pack, but I'm not going to be allowed to spend that much money at one time, and plus it would be until Christmas before I got that much money.

My mom could have bought me them, but I got tickets to WWE: Unforgiven instead.

The Cobalt Flux looks awesome! laugh.gif
I can't wait until I get one! The only thing holding me back from buying it is the fact that you can't play them on the carpet without the bottom cracking. I doubt my parents would even let me try to build a base, and if I did, would there be a good tutorial? I've seen alot of people with plywood bases and I really dislike the look. Would painting it black matter? It would still be just as effective, right?

Thanks everybody for your quick answer.

Darkcore:
I have been on the Cobalt Flux website (forum section) and one of the administrator says it is ok to put it on a carpet... But in the faq, they recommend not to do so... I understand that you don't want to take any chance with your 300$ purchase... Since I am not very handy myself I won't be much help here.

DefaultGen:
Thanks for the advice. Gonna get the CF next month for sure! One more last question : I used to have a metal pad (cheap one that lasted one month!) in my apartment. The neighbours were not complaining that much about noise but, still, I am not looking for troubles. Will it be a good idea to keep the foam from the RO ignition pad and put it under the CF pad? Is it crazy? Should I just put a thin yoga mat instead to cover the noise? Thanks

Darkcore, I have a Cf and playing on long carpet can eventually crack the base. So i consructed a plywood base and painted it black. Heres the link. However i didnt paint the wooden strips but i imagine you could if you preferred the look. http://www.cobaltflux.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5042

BTW best dance pad ever
