Hello,
I dont know if a topic for this game has been created yet but anyway here it goes...
For those of you who don't know, Dance Summit 2001:Bust A Move is the 3rd Bust A Move/Groove game for Ps2 that is up to 4 players that never made it state side. I never got a chance to play it and it is the only Bust A Move/Groove game I do not have. I only found one site selling the game but the price is like 79.99. I really like the Bust A Move/Groove series because after all, I like character dancers and this series is what got me into music games. I just want to know for anyone here who might have played this game...is it worth the 79.99 price tag? The only other place I've seen it sold at is on Ebay but, all the sellers only accept paypal which is what I dont have.
Thanks for your time. |

Ouch, $80 for Dance Summit 2001? Who's offering it at that price? If you're willing to try it, what I suggest you do is use a deputy service to get the game from Yahoo Japan Auctions. Most of the time, YJ Auctions sellers don't ship internationally, but these services will bid on the item, have it shipped locally to them and then send it to you. There are quite a few fees, but you should be able to get for under $50 shipped. I used the deputy service Celga to buy a bunch of DDR games and a Konami DX pad years ago, and I think their service is excellent. This auction has Dance Summit 2001 for 980 yen at the moment, with a desired bid (might be equivalent to eBay's Buy it Now but I'm not sure) of 1700 yen. If that auction expires, you can find others by searching for "ãã³ã¹ãµããã2001" (if gibberish appears between the quotes for you, let me know). Note: trying to search for the game just using English "Dance Summit" won't find anything unless you want a pamphlet from Shinohara Ryouko and Kihara Satomi's Tokyo Performance Doll "Dance Summit". Hope this helps! |

Thanks so much for your help! Yeah..between the quotes there is just a bunch of boxes. I'll try to look into the yahoo Japanese thing. I'm kinda confused on it since most of the websites on there came up a bunch of boxes. Thank again though! |

Wow, really? *Checks Ebay* Dang, you're right. I didn't even bother checking Ebay because that game is rather obscure and pretty old for a PS2 game. I didn't think anyone there would have it all, let alone at a decent price. Anyway, for PrinceLandon, the reason you're seeing boxes is because you need to install Japanese text support. I don't know which OS you have, but it's not hard to do. Just let me know if you want to set it up. |

Thank you all for your help and support. I would have got it on ebay if I had a paypal account Well I broke down a purchased it on that site for a whopping 79.99.
The store is in Hawaii and what I dont like about that store is that it takes 72 hours just to process your order then they finally decide to ship it the next day after. Also they say to add a extra two days to the shipment selected and they dont really give a reason for this. So it could take up to two weeks at least before I can actually get my hands on it.
Also to note, I have the worst luck with ordering things online..most of the time my items get lost in the mail and either take 2 months to recover the item or like that one time, gets lost forever. That time was due to a crazy mail man that was stealing mail from people in the east coast and storeing it all in his basement. But now that he is behind bars, I hope the package comes in safely.
When and if I do get my hands on it, I will let everyone know how the game is in comparison to the previous Bust A Move/Groove games and by itself for the people who also havent played this game yet. Rumors say the reason the game wasnt released here is because of Britney's Dance Beat stealing the gameplay idea from Dance Summit (Curse you Britney Spears!).
Thanks again everyone for your time! |

If it doesn't have Gas-O in it, it's NOT WORTHY!
*grumbles at the lame Gas-O dad concept from BAM2*

I honestly never cared for Gas-O, I was more of a Comet fan . But on Dance Summit all 32 characters are brand new so no Gas-O or Comet. I do however love the look of the School Mates team.
Oh and by the way...I ordered the Dance Summit game on Tuesday and I called the store..they said it wont be mailed till Monday. Sure takes a long time to process orders there. People say the employees are lazy and I believe them definitely now. Heaven for bid if you email them...it takes 5 days to get a reply. |

Dance Summit is nothing like Britney's Dance Beat. I don't know what idiot would even compare the two. The only thing they share is they both have "dance" in the title.
As for the game, it's nothing like the previous BAM/BAG games. It's more like Parappa or Lammy, with it showing you commands first and player input of those commands second.
There are no returning characters that are playable (you'll see Strike and Burger Dog in the Jumbo Max stage, Capoeira in Discos Estrus stage, and Shorty in School Mates stage). A lot of people seem to think this game sucks, but I like it. The characters aren't as memorable or anything, but seeing four characters dance together is pretty sweet. Another problem with the game is they recylce moves from the old games, so you won't see much new content except in the Fevers, Pair Combos, Torio Combos (which is just 3 people dancing the same Fever), and Quartets. Also, you can only dance with one team. There's no real fighting like in the other games. You'll be forced to see the same style of dance through one whole playthrough.
The game can be somewhat strategic, though. Each character has something special about them (for example, G-Pan gets bonus points for getting a 100 combo) and there are various ways to screw over (human) players with the forstalling system.
Anyway, the game is good and fun and has great music, but if you're looking for another BAM/BAG game, you aren't looking in the right place.

I dont know for sure who said that Britney's Dance Beat and DS2001 are similiar. Another rumor was said that the cross dressing team on the game also kept it from being released here. I guess we'll never know.
The game sounds really interesting. It's not the fact that I'm trying to find another BAM/BAG game, even though I love the games, but I'm just trying to find a good character dancer since people think it's dumb that the reason I love DDR over ITG and PIU is due to DDR's characters. Also, I finally want to finish off the BAM/BAG collection.
It's also interesting that you mentioned the characters having special attributes. It sounds really awesome and this is the first time I ever heard of this since the only FAQ on gamefaqs.com never mentioned anything about character specials.
On a final note..I cant wait till my game comes in...if it ever ships. Let me warn you all....
Do not do business with Toys N Joys.com!!! They are very unreliable and after looking at the many complaints I've seen against them I'm starting to worry a lot. Lots of cases where they just take your money and never ship your item and also they wont answer your calls if you call too much trying to fix everything. If they dont ship my item by today like they promised last week, I will contact the BBB.
Thank you Miklotov for your input as well as everyone else. |

Oh..my ..god...I ordered the game last tuesday..its now Wednesday and they still havent shipped the game!! It has been over a week and they said they received my order, what the heck is going on? This just doesnt add up. I called Monday and they said it will be at my place by Friday...okay how do they expect a game to go from Hawaii to Maryland by Friday if it is Wednesday and it hasnt even been shipped yet?!
Please everyone, never order at Toys N Joys.com It is a scam website that will steal your money without being able to get a refund. I called again yesterday to get a refund and they wont even answer my calls. |

Hello all!
I finally got Dance Summit hurray! It took me to threaten the Better Business Bureu to finally get them to ship it from their store but, I'm just glad it made here safe.
I must say, when I started playing it, I fell in love with the game instantly. It is like my new favorite game of all time. A combination of a 4 player game with music is like a game made just for me.
Most of the game info was explained by Miklotov. You just copy the commands on beat kinda like Parappa the Rappa. There are 32 characters in all, 8 stages, 8 songs each with their own remix plus 2 additional remixes of Kita 2001 and Red Star. So in total you can say there are 18 songs since the remixes sound almost completely different from their counterpart.
The motion capture moves are the best I've ever seen in a video game. All characters team up well with each other bust'n moves better than another other dancing game characters. Unlike DDR characters, Dance Summit's characters are a huge importance to gameplay. They each pull dance moves according to what buttons you press on the free spaces and if you press all the buttons correctly. That's right, if you mess up, they even stumble around a bit.
Also this game is very import friendly. All the menus are in complete English so it is easy to navigate through and play. The only things that aren't translated are the character profiles you unlock when you beat the game with a character and win.
Keep in mind, if you are willing to try this game..do not compare it to games such as DDR and ITG. Dance Summit is a game in it's own right. Dont let the songlist length scare you away, the songs are great and they are full length unlike DDR's 1 minute and 30 seconds songs. Also the gameplay is just awesome.
I would definitely recommend this game to anyone who is a Bust A Move/Groove fan and wants to find a game that he/she can play with 3 friends. It is a must have for music game collectors, like me |

Eh, to call the songs "full length" is misleading. The only full length song in the game is the Data Be Bops song. The rest are longer on the OST.

Well the songs are like around 3 minutes long at least, which is pretty long for a standard music game. |

There are two grip pads, you slide one on each hand. The left grip pad in the front has the X button and the O button on the back. The right has Triange in front and Square in the back. It basically uses pressure sensitive motion. I personally haven't used the special controller but, I heard it takes time to get used to however, it can be fun once you get the hang of it.
Also when using the special controller you must first go to the Options Menu, then go to config, and switch the controller type from Normal to Special.
I hope that helps |

I got to thinking, wouldnt it be awesome if Konami got the rights to Bust A Groove? Since Enix probably wont make another one, Konami could take it under it's wing and Bemani style it. They could even throw in some of the DDR characters.
By the way I love the DDR characters. I personally dont think they are pointless like some people will claim. It would be nice to see them somehow make a breakthrough in the DDR scene or any other music game. I'm very glad that they have new dance animations in Super Nova.
Hey Miklotov, you work for konami right? I love whoever decided to keep DDR characters in the games but really I love everyone at Konami because Konami is awesome. That means I love you too Miklotov! Ha ha..sorry I'm a total weirdo. |
