The problem with hitting hands is just that keyboards can only register a certain number of arrows at a time. IF you use the number pad to play you can hit all 4 at once ONLY because the number pad keys are default computer keys that have to all be hittable at once. So, unless you use the numpad or possibly the 4 arrow keys, you shouldnt be able to hit more than 4 at once, unless you have a special keyboard for it. This is also why versus usually doesn't work out.

download the stepmania CVS build. i hope thats the answer you were looking for. It come with stepmania online play. you need to register a username at stepmaniaonline.com tho' in order to actually play online.

aside from that, im going to eventually purchase an external hard drive and transfer all my music and data to it. Is there a way to configure Stepmania to access the songs from this drive?

Yes. Somewhere in stepmania.ini, i think near the top, you can enter in a directory value for "additional song folder", and stepmania will search that directory for songs.

As in,

Just to let you know, if this is a USB external drive, it will probably take stepmania a while to load.

My guess is either A.) you don't have enough RAM to run SM, or B.) you're already using too much RAM. Try quitting out of some programs that are running and try again. If all no one else can help try buying more RAM.

I want to use the ITG2 theme and it is great. Theres only one problem, when
I am in the song selection screen, the banners don't show up. This is the best theme but I don't use it because of this. Whats wrong?

Before, I copied all the songs from another computer onto a disk and put them on my computer, but it screwed up two of the songs and didn't store the complete simfiles. I got the downloads off of DDRUK and one of the songs is working just fine now, but the other song isn't. It's as if it's simply not letting me play that one song. So I tried deleting the entire song folder and downloading it again but that didn't help. Reinstalling StepMania may be my last resort.

I haven't seen any ITG2 Themes out of Beta yet, so be patient. I have one that happens to work on 3.95 (unsure with 3.9, but you could try) if you still have a copy of that. Even supports Online except showing the scores other ppl got. E-mail if you're interested, I also have a copy of the 3.95 Install.

Okay, I recently tried to edit a stepfile by adding a video to it. I can play the .avi fine in Windows Media, but when I tried to tack it on, it only showed plain black. How do I fix this?

Depends on which bios you're using. It might be that you're cpu is overheating. It might be that you don't have enough RAM. It might be that your motherboard drivers haven't been updated in awhile.
List the specs for your compy and you'll find more help here.

Didn't that other guy have problems with .avi's? Try converting them to .wmv, because those seem to work. I have a video that's a .avi for Xepher (official steps guys, anyone jealous E15.gif ) that seems to only work for StepMania 3.9 rc3. What I find more odd is the fact that Breaking The Habit (in Zuke's Megapack) also uses .avi's, but I have gotten that to work anything from 3.9 rc3 to 4.0 so far. Try Reloadin Songs/Graphics from the Options Menu.

Aah, there is something horribly wrong with my SM! It works fine in dance mode, but in pump mode, that all changes. When I get to the song (this happens with every song), the stepzone does react to all of my key presses, yet NONE of the arrows respond. I press at the right time, but it just acts like I'm not. What's wrong?

Um re-install? It probably has something to do with game metrics itself or it could be some oddball reason that the theme isn't Pump compatible (unless you're using default anyways). Besides, no one plays Pump. I played it for the first time in about a year today.
