I recently was given a soft pad controller (not the foam kind) by a friend who mistakenly bought it off of Ebay (they thought they were buying the game). I'm thinking this is ok, I don't yet have a controller for my Xbox, I'll plywood mod it and use it until I can get myself a metal pad. I go to play it to make sure that it works, and it seems that the back arrow is unresponsive, but it works just fine in the menu. Odd. So I edit to create a song with all back arrows. It works just fine. Odder. After a little experimentation, I come to this surprising conclusion: the back arrow won't register if any other arrow is being pressed. Has anyone run into this before? Will opening the controller up and adjusting/fixing things help here? Thanks in advance for any help!

It sounds like the mat is set up using an axis system instead of having each arrow be an individual button. There are a few workarounds for this, but often it requires you to cut and resolder traces on a circuit board. I'm also not sure if this can be done on a pad designed for a console (where you don't have access to button mapping).

I had a Kraft brand USB pad with the same issue. Up and Down were on one axis, and Left and Right were on another. There's not a lot I can say that will help. It's just a cheap pad design.

if the axis system were used, wouldn't the problem be not exclusive to the back arrow, but the other arrows too?

Yes, most likely, but that's about the only thing I can think of that would explain one arrow not working while the others were being pressed...unless it's just some random, stupid glitch on the chip.

That happened to the right arrow of one of my basic, run of the mill, off ebay soft pads too, but only after using it for a while unplywooded. When I tore open the pad (since it was pretty much useless and I wanted to see the guts), the top sensor had a huge crease in it running down the right side. Perhaps your sensor has felt it necessary to fold over itself?

Unanswered in the other forum for ignition 3.0s; my problem is exactly like this. =.=" except with all of the buttons instead of just the down.

Get a Cobalt Flux tongue.gif

But seriously, soft pads have a habit of breaking down frequently, especially unmodded ones. As for the sensor creasing, I had that issue before and rather than causing the arrow to not register, it caused it to register constantly. At this point, the real problem is anyone's best guess.
