|
|
Hi,
I've been doing DDR on the cheapie dance pad that came in the 'DDR Extreme 2' bundle for about a month now (it's definitely a piece of junk). I have it on a carpet floor and I wear socks when I play. I play 7 days a week for about 2 hours a day and my knees are taking a real beating!
My question is this:
If I buy a Cobalt Flux Metal pad and put it on my carpeted floor and wear tennis shoes while I play will that create less of an impact on my knees?
Thanks! |

Uhh, I don't imagine you have much knee impact anyway... unless you are hitting the arrows with your knees. _________________

It's the knee joints that are getting clobbered around - especially when doing a lot of fast jumping.
Anyone out there who started on a flat pad and graduated to a Cobalt Flux who can tell me about the difference between the two as far as "cushioning" goes?
You know, like the difference between jogging on cement vs jogging on dirt paths? (same idea)
Thanks again for any input! |

I'm not sure if that would help.
But if you do get one (which you should), DON'T use it on a carpet. You can break the base of the pad (it could crack). If you can only do it on a carpet, put a piece of plywood or something under it. |

My knees are actually part of the reason I bought a CF in the first place. I wanted a pad that would actually hold up to me when I'm wearing shoes, and I said "Aw hell. I'll buy a Cobalt Flux!"
Since I've had it, I've been able to play a LOT longer than I used to be able to on my old softpads. Before, I might be able to go about twenty minutes to half an hour tops before my ankles or my knees would hurt from jumping around without shoes. (Hurray, flat feet! You effed up my knees as well!)
Now that I'm playing on my CF, I can go significantly longer. One day, I was going for three hours, and my joints still didn't bother me. I was tired as hell, but no pain! |

Thanks for the tip. Yes, I can only do it on carpet.
I was wondering though, won't the plywood slide around on the carpet?

Thank you for sharing this info! I'm really glad to hear this because I was really bumming thinking that I may have to give up DDR if it kept wreaking such havoc on my knees. I have noticed though that if I don't keep repeating the same song over and over for 2 hours straight and rotate the songs instead, my knees don't give me such grief.
If the CF pad has increased your playing time as much as it has (so happy for you, btw!) then I hope that the same will be true for me. Plus, I really, really, REALLY hate the cheapie pad slipping and sliding all over the floor. I can't imagine anyone getting anywhere on "heavy" using those pads. After I'm done with a song way down in "light" mode the darn pad is halfway across the room. Ugh!
Anyway, thanks so much for sharing your experience I really appreciate it. |

No problemo, dear! ^-^
I remember the first time I tried to play a heavy chart with my softpad. I managed to kick the thing into the TV. |
