Alright. I got beatmania US for PS2 and I think I love it. But I need some help, and need some questions answered. First, why is it that the songlist gets bigger each time I complete a stage? I like that this happens, but why does it get small again when I finish (or fail) and play game mode again? I want those songs to be there all the time, but they don't like the 1st stage, unfortunatly.
Also, I often get VERY confused in songs that require me to constantly switch from white keys to black ones repeatedly. It seriously throws me off, especially in IIDX mode. Is there anything I can do about this? Or should I just deal with it and hope I get better? Alright, thanks for taking time out of your life to read my probably stupid questions. |

1) It just shows more songs for each stage. I hate it too.
2) Too bad? _________________

1) So I can't do anything about the songs? That sucks. I don't like having to do songs that are too easy for the 1st stage so I can challenge myself on a harder one. I'm very lazy. By the way, does it do that in JP styles too?
2) So I have to deal with it until I get better? Aww. I suck at beatmania. This is going to take a while.... |

after you play a song in Game Mode (you don't need to pass it) once, it will be unlocked in Free Mode. when you play in free mode, it shows all of the songs you've unlocked, (i.e the song list dosent go back and forth between being big and small) and also is like Event Mode.
as for being able to switch from white keys to black verry quickly, your just gonna need to get experience by trial and error _________________

Not since 5th Style! And in the Japanese styles there's always a quick-unlock method, unlike the US version where the only option is to slog through arcade mode a billion times. _________________

If you are having trouble going back and forth you are fingering in an odd style. The way I've always fingered my controller for P1 side (and trust me as I have been playing IIDX for over 2 years at this point) is as follows.
Key 1 - left middle
Key 2 - left index
Key 3 - left index (I go back and forth)
Key 4 - right index
Key 5 - right thumb/right index depending on pattern
Key 6 - right middle
Key 7 - right ring/middle depending on pattern
There is some degree of switching around but chances are fixing one finger to one key like how my Key 5 is usually only my right thumb could help to solve this problem. It requires slightly more dexterity and you'll have to learn timings for your extra digit but it is worth it.
BTW this is for songs with "multitasking" where you have bass and synths and cymbals and such. In "stream" charts like Quasar 7K I only use my index and middle on each hand because it is easier to keep a time. Just experiment and see what works.
And BTW, pinky scratching ftw. _________________

A billion, eh? I think it took me a matter of a few days. |

As to answer your question about the progressive change of the songlist in game mode: that's just how it works in the Arcade.
You're only provided with number of songs at first, usually the easier ones, then more and more harder songs are added.
DDR used to be this way back in the old days, too. _________________

Is that back when you had to do crossovers - uphill, barefoot, and in the snow for 15 miles? |

I got Beatmania US and I was wondering if anyone knows 2 things:
A) Is this going to be the only US Beatmania?
and B) Does anyone know where I can buy a controller (not WITH the game, just another controller)
I got the game and controller used for $35 at my lcoal EB Games, but they don't appear to carry the controllers. |

For some reason, I doubt they sell the controllers by themselves. In stores 'round here, at least. If you really want a second one, you might check ebay or whatnot. |

since you can now do 3's, try practicing alternating black/white keys on V Beginner. That song confused the hell out of me. But that was when I had it on too fast (high speed3). If you're using high high speed #s, bring it down a little so you can see what keys are coming next. _________________

Thanks. V Beginner is rather hard, especially for a beginner song. But the other day I moved on to 4's. They're really hard, but quite fun. I've gotten used to alternating my fingers now, I've B'd Jelly Kiss on Normal mode (I've been dipping into normal mode, it's fun). I can tell that it'll be a while until I'll be able to pass a 5 though =\ |

Try to find a song on normal with as little scratches as possible. That way, you can get the idea of how to get key placements down. Or, just turn on auto-scratch. I guess that works, too. |

What exactly do you mean by key placements? If you mean like, assigning a finger or two to a few buttons on the controller, I've got that down. My problem before was I only wanted to use a few fingers, and I was moving my hand all over the controller. This made it hard to get from one key to the next, and I'd often forget which key I last had my finger on and would start pressing all the wrong keys.
Anyway, I'm going to whore a ton of songs that are difficult for me and try to get onto 5 star songs as fast as I can.
Y'know, I do find beatmania to be difficult, but I think I'm gaining skill rather steadily. I created this thread the day after I got beatmania, so that's about a week now. How good do you think I'm doing? |
