That's because in DDR, if the song is not noticeably offsync already, the perfect window isn't centered over the beat. _________________

If I have a choice between DDR and an ITG2 dedicab/upgrade/crapocab, I would go over to ITG2 simply because I have more fun doing it. I've kind of grown away from playing just to get a good score, and now I play just to have fun playing the game (regardless of which game it is). That's what a game is meant to do . I'll still play DDR, because I still like some of the songs on there (hello BeForU and its band members )
It's all the matter of opinion. People just have different preferences. |

i think its safe to say that a majority of DDR players would agree with that mindset, but at least 90% of the people who play ITG feel just the opposite. _________________

PIU's K-Pop licenses are some of my favorite songs on any arrow-hitting game. But that's just me. _________________

i play DDR, ITG, AND PIU. Each one has many flaws that i can think of. Heres my flaws list
PIU
-No way to distinguish arrows based on rhythm
-Not enough truly great songs
-not enough speed mods(this is only goes for certain mixes)
ITG
-Copied DDR too much
-not enough flash or fun in the BG animations
-bland interface
-too much techno
-mines are annoying(more of a personal opinion, and they ARE optional)
-bland step charts
DDR
-Hard-to-distinguish arrows
-Repetetive BG animations until extreme 2
-repeats songs too much from mix-to-mix, not enough freshness
-konami USUALLY gives us lame home mixes(konamix, ultramix 2, MAX 1, and extreme 2 being exceptions)
-not enough GOOD CHALLENGING songs(the hard songs are usually stupid songs)
-sometimes has bland step charts
My overall preferance? DDR. It's the classic. Has the best songs, biggest fanbase, and the overall funnest. PIU takes second, and ITG takes third. I just figured i'd point out some of the flaws of all the dance games.[/b] _________________

PIU's worldwide fanbase is always going to be larger than DDR and ITG.
ITG is centered around the US, but slowly finding its way to other countries.
DDR is centered around the US, Europe, and Asia.
PIU is centered around the US, South America, Mexico, Asia, and I /think/ parts of Europe.
And from what I've seen, South Americans are pretty good at it too, mainly the Brazilian players.
And I agree with J-POP_FOR_LIFE's points. Though, I prefer older DDR, like 5th Mix and 3rd Mix Korean V2.
ITG3 is looking pretty good songwise, so far.
[opinionated]I just hope they don't add anymore extremely bland and boring music like Soapy Bubble, Sweet World, and Music Pleeze.[/opinionated].
PIU just never caught my attention all that much, maybe I'm just playing it wrong or something. (Except Starian Hard... That is one of the best stepcharts I've ever played) _________________

Quote: | I'm sorry you find DDR boring due to absence of gimmicky difficulties and mods. Here's a step-by-step to make it seem more fun...
1. Find the nearest firearm or device capable of firing a projecttile at at least mach 1.2
2. Locate ammunition for said firearm
3. Attempt to put said ammunition in your firearm (You may find this difficult due to lack of speed mods)
4. When properly loaded pull back hammer, bolt, etc. to initiate a state of "ready to fire" (This may be challenging with all those corner buttons in your way)
5. Open mouth and insert firearm (it's critical that you are able to insert the end where the projectile is more likely to exit, although you might be distracted by someone dancing in a background somewhere)
6. Pull the trigger while gun is in mouth, this is a requisite (User reports have indicated that Smith & Wesson ingnores their fanbase and thus, might hender the weapon from doing it's job)
7. If lack of Solo did not intervien in your putting the ammo in right, proceed to 9.
8. Reattempt to put ammunition in weapon, but first, remove the offending bullet/cartdrige
9. Congratulations, you've improved your DDR experience!!! |
LMAO. Couldnt have said it better. |

Alright, time for some pro-PIU talk now.
PIU has the largest fanbase in the world for music games. Andamiro listens to the fans at every sanctioned event. That is why Zero had all of the neat things that it did and why future versions will always be better than the last.
Music variety is one of the biggest reasons why Pump is my favorite dancing game. DDR has plenty of techno and trance, and ITG has some really crappy music because a lot of it all sounds the same. Please note that its my opinion. Pump has everything you could ever ask for in terms of musical variety. If you name a genre, you can find the song (save Jazz, I think.) The only other games that have such variety are IIDX and PNM.
Both DDR and ITG have a strong focus on the single player/pad part of the game. Pump has an equal focus on singles and doubles. Chart varitey is also incredible in Pump that it pretty much overshadows anything that DDR or ITG has made. I can't think of any 2 Nightmare charts that feel anything like eachother while I can name plenty of DDR songs that all feel the same because of a lack of variety in the steps.
As for Starian Hard, try Beethoven Virus Hard, you'll have fun with it.

Wait.. are you guys talking about the X & O (A&B) buttons on the pad? If so, why would this cause any problems? _________________

Not just the X and O buttons, but the triangle and square as well. The problem with these buttons being on during gameplay is that when you step on them, they trigger the arrows. This triggers some steps early; when stepping on an arrow, you might step on a corner button that corresponds to the next arrow you're supposed to hit, which could cause you to get an early Almost or Good. The problem is especially bad if you play flat-footed, or if you're using a metal pad with equal-sized sensors under all the panels (such as a CF). _________________

Hmm. The corner buttons don't bother me because I use the Konami pads. I don't care what anybody says, I've been using the same pad since Extreme (ten-footers and all) and it's like new. Except for the holes my dog chewed in it, but that's a minor thing. And duct taped together with the Konami pad from Extreme 2, and it remains stable everywhere this side of Boom Boom Dollar (KOG G3 Mix) heavy doubles.
I think most of the DDR licenses are great, but that's just my opinion.
I really don't care much for hard songs. They make me tired. I'd rather play twenty seven or eight footers and have fun for an hour than ten nine or ten footers and have fun for half the time, and then be exhausted and sweaty afterwards. I mean, everybody loves a good hard song on occasion, but it's not like they're my life. Geez, my favorite song in DDR only gets to five feet on Heavy!
As far as options, I don't use solo or speed mods, though I would appreciate it if they threw in Brake and Wave next time, because they're simply fun to mess with.
I don't use characters, but, like Party Mode, I couldn't care less whether they were there or not.
I think Konami listens to the fanbase. Think of all the classic licenses that were lined up for Extreme 2. And Dance Magic/Battle Mode is back, I don't know about anyone else, but I've been asking for it forever.
I like reading challenges. It's a fun alternative to pure hard songs, and it makes you think a little bit. Maybe that's why all the websites put DDR in the 'puzzle' category.
I think hands in the actual songs might become annoying, though they might be fun in doubles mode, and I wouldn't mind them being in Edit Mode, because I don't see why they wouldn't be. However, lack of hands isn't something that would make me QUIT DDR. _________________
