Do u guys think ddr is dying, or is it just starting to get more popular?
Personally, I think that ddr is dying because of the lack of people that are going to my arcades. Last year, A ton of people went to my arcades. I went to one on a sunday afternoon and the place was PACKED!!!! The whole screen was filled with coins and people were sitting on the skee ball ramps because they were running out of space . Almost any time i went, there would be a lot of people there.
Now, I usually am there by myself. I might see another itg2 dedicab player (since that's really the only game that makes good $$$) and maybe a few soul calibur 2 players. The tournament last year had like 25-30 participants (who were actually REALLY good players) and their recent tournament had a mere 6.
Now part of this could be due to the gas prices and economy of our state, but I don't think that is a HUGE contributing factor to spending $0.25- $1 on a game of itg2/ddr. There are a lot of new players getting into it, but i don't think there's enough of them.
Tell meh what u think!!! |
I think you are witnessing trends related to the arcade and not nessecarily ITG/DDR alone.
I think it is continuing to spread in many ways.. in Japan it may be dying.dead, but I doubt it will die here soon, at least in the direct future though I won't speculate on how long it will be until a decline comes here... hopefully if/when it does something will take it's place (like ITG became popular/is increasingly popular with very advanced players, and PumP continues to enjoy playing alongside DDR) _________________

I don't think it's dying. Every weekend, I can go to my bowling ally at 10:00+ and see some of my "friends" (they're all way older then me, we're "friends" because we play DDR together) at the machine. Sometimes the coin line gets as big as 6 or 7 coins. |

Of course it's dead. Then, just like Tupac it's going to rise from the dead and be even more popular than when it was alive.
Lol It's probably just a time of the season thing. With many people traveling in the beginning of the summer kids don't get enough time to hit the arcades, as they are being dragged around to do whatever people do when they travel. I spent the last three weekends alone at the arcade and of course it's diffferent than last year, but once things settle down people will once again go play. Lol I wonder if there's a time graph that shows when DDR play is at it's greatest or least.
Plus, it's hot as hell out here in Nevada this time. I was tired after two games yesterday (and sweaty, I might add) when I normally last more than 8-10 games. _________________

Arcades in general are declining in popularity. DDR's popularity had been declining pretty rapidly (in my experience, especially fast in areas where ITG/PIU are prevalent). SN is kind of a last chance for DDR's popularity, and even then, based on what I've seen, I think it will just put off the decline for a while, not reverse it. Then, maybe they'll make a version after SN that actually does something new instead of just adding 60 or whatever songs to Extreme with an overabundance of generically easy charts. _________________

If SN and the new home versions do well enough hopefully we'll sort of see a new DDRMAX. We all know how DDRMAX was supposed to "revolutionize" DDR, and it did. Maybe next we'll see something else, that we re-revolutionize it. I really hope we do, to. Maybe then we'll see some hands and great stuff like that. DDR does seem like it could die. Something like that though, could save it. |

it's dieing!!
I don't think it's the game I just think it's the way people look at the game. I've been getting my friends to play and I've got a bunch of them hooked. I'm creating a new army of DDR bar rapists mwahahahahahahahahahahaha
But I haven't played SN yet so I wouldn't know how good it is, what I hear it wasn't the best. |

Adding Hands into DDR? ITG already has Hands. If DDR added something like that, it'd just be a total ripoff.
ITG is growing in popularity, and once it becomes as known as DDR, I think it'll be pretty popular. DDR, however, is dead. There were no new arcade releases for many years, and in that time many people got bored with the repetition and quit. My old arcade had the coin lines filled four years ago. Then, a couple years later, the arcade was deserted, aside from the rare occasional DDR player and the loads of Yu-Gi-Oh! players. _________________

DDR popularity varies by location. Some people say its dead, but around my neighborhood it's almost unbelieveable how popular it is. Most arcades are only in buisness because of DDR around here, and it just keeps growing every day. |

I guess it's more of a regional thing, because DDR here is still pretty big. The old players have left but a large group of newer players have taken their place. The number of dedicated players that are good has declined, but DDR is still the most popular machine in the arcades here. If DDR was really dying, you'd see a drop in number of arcade machines. ITG is mostly for hardcore DDR players (obviously). We have an ITG2 machine right next to a DDR Ex machine. Anytime new people come to play, they choose DDR over ITG and if they do ITG, they usually don't like it and just wiat in line for DDR instead. |

More people play around here than usual. Its great in one way, that I have someone to talk to and all, but of course no one know how to keep a damn coin line... |

DDR is mostly dead where I live. It's all about ITG. When I go to my arcade, I am usually the only one playing DDR. All the other people are off playing ITG, which I am starting to play more than DDR now, too. So, it all depends. |
