My thread died, so I will ask this here. How can I fixed drifting risers? I REALLY do not want to cut open my pad, because that will most likely make my warrenty useless (I bought one from GameStop when In purchased my pad). Is there any possible way of moving the risers back without opening my pad? _________________

After I bought my second Ignition, I got sick of RedOctane. If you read my previous posts, my new pad has a whole ton of creases in it that havn't streightened out.
REDOCTANE SUCKS! |

drats, I'll remember them next time, because this pad will invariably drive me to making another one when the foam stuff dissolves entirely. =P |

No way in hell. Seriously. When my GameStop pad broke and before I got my Ignition, I was forced to use a Mad Catz for about a month. I was ready to shread/burn/mutilate that thing. Mad Catz is the worst value ever. The 'non-slip surface' was the equivalent of trying to play DDR on a Slip 'N Slide. The surface may not be much better on the Ignition, but at least the mat it heavy enough to stay somewhat positioned during Heavy play. I'm starting to have minor arrow spasms with my Ignition, but there are so few in number that I could care less. So far I have been very satisfied with my Ignition. I've A'd things I couldn't even pass on my Mad Catz with my Ignition. I'd much rather have a metal pad, as the transition from home to arcade play is hard for me, but the chance of me ever getting one of those is slim to none. For me, the Ignition is perfect.
I guess it's just the luck of the draw, but I don't know why so many people hate the Ignition. |
OK, I was wrong. You might be better off with a Konami softpad though. They're actually not bad for softpads. We use one at school currently. We've had it for maybe 2 months. I've been going crazy with 10's on it, and it still works. There hasn't been any ghosting, and there aren't many pad misses. |

MadCatz, no.
Konami, maybe. I still managed to break my Konami pad playing on Light and Standard though. _________________

The best Ignition-style pad I owned was a MadCatz. The thing lasted me about 8 months whith playing on heavy for an hour every day. I loved that pad. _________________

I wanted to get the Ignition 3.0 but apparently it usually dies out in a month to 3 months but it is a good pad before it dies out. I was thinking of buying it online but there are only 30 days of warrenty so if I would want to get the Ignition, I should buy it at ebgames and buy the 1 year warrenty. This one would cost me about $80+
I was also considering getting The BNS DX Xtreme Dance Pad
http://www.buynshop.com/productinfo/4985/VG-DDR-ULTDX/
but I would need to get a PS2->USB Convertor which will cost me about $15 and with shipping , it will come out to be about $80 there too. I heard better reviews off of this one, but this one will be a more hit or miss since I don't know how the warrenty is on that site. |

So, here's something interesting: I fixed it (my mauled 3.0). It needs some tweaking, but essentially I think I've gone and made the RO3 better, without even adding a big wooden board to the bottom of it. More on this as testing continues. O: |

I'm glad I warrantied my pad, because it's going back to Game Stop and I'm getting a new one. The right riser is basically in the middle section of the pad, and it causes me to get a lot of pad misses because I step in the wrong spot. And now there's a huge wrinkle that randomly showed up.
I want a metal pad, gosh darnit. _________________

so, I'm a pretty determined guy. Here's how I fixed my 3.0 and made it a little bit better, imo.
Here's what we start with.
First, do this. Rip all the RO-style foam out, ball it up, and throw it away.
Remember this guy? Chances are he might still be lurking around your house, somewhere.
Cut out the foam CAREFULLY around the top. Do NOT damage it at all. It seems like Konami uses better foam or something because my Konami pad foam looked perfect at all and it got more use than the RO.
Next step is to put the Konami foam into place where the RO foam used to be. It won't use all of the sensor space, so you'll probably have to cut your own holes (you can see mine clearly, they're the freaky oblong ones because I used a steakknife to cut them out.)
End result?
SOrry for the picture heavy post. Hope it helps a little. Circutry wise it seems the RO3 is fine, but the foam quality amound other this is crap. I'm saving the C-box from my Konami pad just in case. _________________

I recently cut apart a Game Stop pad that was nearly identical to the Konami pad and I saved the bottom non-slip surface and control box but NOT THE FOAM. AGH! I have a MadCatz pad too, but that still works and I use it for doubles (3.0 + softpad = challenge) so I'd rather not cut it open. And their foam probably sucks anyway. I'll just get a new RO, if it's covered in the warranty. _________________

|
|
I recently purchased my first pad - an Ignition 3 for use with StepMania.
I have read that a lot of pads need to be broken in before they will work properly, but not having ever owned one before, I am having trouble telling if it is acting normal (being so new), or if it is a faulty unit.
If it is indeed faulty, I want to return it while I am still able to.
I even tried the particle board mod. I took out the included foam pieces, and used a 3/4" piece of particle board (cut and sanded into shape), and while it seems to have made an improvement, I am still not sure.
I know that no one here can tell me if my pad is good or not, but does anyone have any advice?
For the record, I have probably used it a total of 5-6 hours or so. Not very much I know. Sometimes things will seem to be working fine, and other times there will be several in a row that will not register. I know it is not a matter of me missing the beat, since I have been testing with the controller test feature of StepMania as well.
Thanks for any suggestions! |

If it work ssometimes and others it doesn't, my guess is the foam inbetween the sensors (See my post a few posts up too see how bad it can get, though yours might just be out of place). Of course, doing that would void your warrenty and if you can get a new one I advise doing that first instead of tearing your pad apart. _________________
