I don't think I've ever come across those machines. They sound like they are a waste of machine components. goog.gif Oh well... I mostly find MegaMixes where I am. It's only a treat if I happen to find an Extreme machine.

I played one of these at astroworld, it seemed easier to do stuff, because i AAA'd like almost everything i played there. like waka-laka, stoic, and my summer love. Their timing window just must be alot bigger

Does anyone know if MegaMix's timing is harder? I heard this discussed before (in this thread?) and I think it may be a bit true. I have played on three Megamixes, all were in excellent condition (machine and pads in excellent condition... very responsive) and it seemed like I was getting way too many Greats. Too bad such nice machines have such crap on them. Anyone notice the same thing?

I've played on an Extreme Plus and Megamix. In Extreme Plus, the Perfect-Great time window seemed like the home console version - a bit too easy to get all perfects. In Megamix, it felt harder.

While I have no experience with entering codes, I'm very sure they're the same as Extreme. Go to http://www.ddrfreak.com/versions/faqs-arcade.php?version=80 and look for the unlock codes. Hope that helps.

It seems, unfortunately, you have one of the few Megamix machines that DOESN'T use the Extreme unlock codes. (There may be unlock codes for these... buuuuut we suspect that sadly, they are broken, not altered.)

Megamix is an INSTALL disc not a game disc, the game disc is a normal Extreme. For those who were wondering.

Whaaaaat??? The what is the point of MegaMix at all? It's not even like they can fool arcade operators that its a new mix! The sad part is that every MegaMix I played on (3 total) were all EXCELLENT condition machines... too bad such crap is put on such nice cabs.

Well, the good news is that I think a ton of these, if not all, are going to disappear when SuperNova comes out!

Even ExtremePLUS? How does the interface change then from the install disc? How are there missing files in game from the install disc?

Keep in mind I don't really know how the inner workings of AC DDRs work, but I'm guessing the pir8s just hack the disc and replace the regular bg/other files with new ones, I imagine it must be at least relatively easy (especially since I know that there's been hacked discs to change the timing and unlock those other mods (x.5, fuwa, etc.) in the mod menu.) so it's just a matter of knowing how to do it.

But indeed all of this isn't going to matter after SuperNOVA rolls out, cause no one's gonna want to play this crap after it comes out.

Actually sherl0k, I do believe that the MegaMix and Plus machines do have install and game discs. The local arcade that I go to allowed me to install 5th mix over their Extreme Plus, and it worked just fine, except it was stuck at 20% rate. When we tried to put Extreme Plus back on it, it wouldn't do anything... It turned out the extreme Plus disc we had was the game disc and not the install disc. I got the DDR Extreme install disc from everyones fav tracker and installed that and replaced it with the Plus game disc because our machine didnt come with an install disc, nor was the company he bought it from willing to send one, and it booted up to Extreme, but it has the added 20% and 10% rates. I believe the speed mod is added through the game disc and not just a supposed install disc.

They only work on machines. Trying to play one on a computer would be like trying to play a Game Cube game on a Saturn. I suppose if you were really really really really (6 more really's) good at hardware design and programming, you could create a drive for your computer and some software to run an arcade disc on your computer. But that would be hard.

I didn't notice any missing songs when I played, meh. The one I played shorted or something while dancing doubles, so I don't think ALL of them are good condition. Seriously, when was the last time you played Extreme and had the screen go dead and the music still play while hearing a ground hum?

Actually, that happened to me once at my movie theaters DDR extreme machine. It shut off and then went back on...but it actually was a moniter problem they had when they moved it from the arcade room to the lobby(so people can show off and its not so clastrophobic). They fixed it but in the upper right hand corner there is a bluish tint to it(its very small and only makes the end inch of the lifebar blue).

Anyways, i'm just thankful the machines a rental, because im sure if that place bought a machine, they would have gotten one of those PS2 bootleg machines. "Hmm....its cheaper!!! They have the same title!! whos up for chinese?" anyways, the rental guys keep good care of the machine(the pads are good and the machine itself is in good shape) and whenever theres a problem i come back a week later and its fixed even if i dont tell the manager. And they have all the unlocks! score!

Monitor just needs to be degaussed. On a Japanese-origin cabinet, someone just needs to go inside the coin door (obviously, this will need to be someone with a key) and press the third (lowest) red button.

Japanese coin door controls

Just hold it for about a second or two and release. The on-screen image will distort for a moment, but the discoloration should be gone afterward.

If it's a Korean cabinet, the degauss controls aren't quite so convenient. In fact, I'm not sure if there's a built-in degausser. If there is, the control for it is not inside the coin door and I don't know how to use it. Someone else would have to step up to help.

ive found two extreme plus machines around my city and i must say...
for one reason or another
they really really bite

i like the speed mod (apart from the fact you cant change it mid game in options or anything, has to be when you select your difficulty. it replaces the "what to do on a freeze arrow" screen) but either its the software or the pads, they just...dont register correctly

out of interest, are the pads on korean machines different from the jap machines? the bootlegs ive found are using korean pads and cabinets, i dont know if there is a difference, im assuming there isnt.

and i may have also detected a bit of lag between hitting the pad and registering the note on the screen

or maybe im just paranoid
