hello again freinds, i watched some profesionals at my arcade last week and i noticed that they all flat foot. i watched this guy named dan do delirium 12 no bar triplr star. I tried flat foot myself and it is extreamly painful for both of my knees. i always seemed to have used the balls of my feet because of less impact but i want to get better and start passing 11's! Also im not sure about this but do most experts don't flatfoot in doubles because of the constant moving back and forth on the pads? I seem to be alot better on doubles then singles but idk why that is. So my real question is......should i suck it up and ignore the pain and flat foot or am i going to be stuck on only being able to pass 10's useing the balls of my feet? thank you guys

simple, if it hurts too much, don't play that way.
you don't have to flat foot. it's just a good way of conserving energy. that's why the majority of the better players do it.

also, check your grammar and spelling.

Look up "grammer" in the dictionary.

IT hurts because you're pulling muscles that aren't normally pulled. Just work on it gradually (play 1-5 block songs flat first), then eventually it won't hurt.

I actually play a combination of both flat footed and the balls of my feet. I tend to play flat footed more but I have flat feet (no arches in my feet) so I tend to get tired easily.

Yeah, it's one of those things that takes getting used to. It's not like you'll flatfoot one day and magically * Pandy the next; it takepractice like anything else. For me personally, my ankles start hurting because I have to really focus on keeping myself flatfooted (Which for me involves bending my foot "upward" to counteract my natural tendency to go on my toes).

hmm this is probably somthing i didn't realize. While i can pass most nines and a few tens not flat footed, i'm probably using different muscles playing songs flat footed causing pain and swelling in my upper knee. Sadly my knee doctor told me to stay on the balls of my feet because there is not as much shock impact on your knees and hips, i guess he wants me to think of like those Irish dancers, They always seem to jump up high in the air and always land on the balls of their feet but this is different and i hope i can build up muscle trying it your way. It's just going to be awfully boring going from 10 to 5....oh well at least Dax's Dreams of passion will be getting played alot heh thats a 5. Thanks for the tip I will definetly try it out.

In addition, don't give people shit about grammar during an Internet conversation, especially when your own grammar isn't up to snuff.

Throwing stones =/= people in glass houses.

I'd start with only playing flat-footed on slow songs. That way you have more time to move from arrow to arrow. You can switch up to playing tip-toed on faster songs when necessarily until you become better at efficient stepping.

This forum is weird about grammar. I see no problem in writing IM style or not using punctuation. No English teacher is stalking you on a DDR forum.

Peeps pass 11's and up on the balls of their feet. I can't flatfoot at home, only the arcade, because my pad has screws on the surface (crappy metal pad, don't know what model) and flatfooting with my size feet makes me stomp on screwheads. Not too fun. I flatfoot in the arcade though because I wear shoes there. But yeah, it is possible to pass songs like Tell and Euphoria and other upper level songs on your toes or balls of your feet, though you'll be impressed on the calf workout when you start hitting the hardest songs on toes.

Yea at my job where i teach some of the kids in the groove and pump, the screw heads are a major issue. I have been trying to teach the ones that try really hard to learn flatfoot with the chair (we don't have a bar) But out of the 6 months that i have been playing dance games non flat footed, I have never seemed to have a calf workout. Maybe thats because I have done it for so long and am just used to it, i don't feel the burn but alot of the other kids somtimes complain about the burn. Oh and please don't worry i don't make a ton of money, only minimum wage at my job, i'm not a real pro at this game but alot of the lil ones think so E10.gif Thanks for your advice

and as for Da bar---IDK why u wana b so mean w. my grammar may-b u shud try typing IM style it conserves mor nrg that way jus like flatfoot ahah! E1.gif

wow, did you just quote the entire thread?

lol, sorry if i came across as mean. the last forum i used to post regularly in was Arch0wl.com, where one would get flamed quite a bit for typing like that.
