On another note, what are the licenses in Pop'n Music? I've heard that Cruel Angel's Thesis is in Iroha.

PS: Complete list appreciated.

However, unlike IIDX and DDR, popn never factors combo into score. So someone can get a failing 100k (goodluck on that! You need a lot of paitience to do that. I did get a nonFC 100k, but that was Area 2 of 10's Study Mode.)

Question: Has anyone had that weird period where they've beaten more higher level songs than lower (not like in a "I don't want to do it sense")? Like for instance I have cleared 4 35s and 6 36s.

Cat's Eye is in 9. TANK! and R&P are in 11. Goonies R Good Enough, Mazinger Z, and Pegasus Fantasy are in 10. Just the more interesting ones. PF is hard to beat on EX.

Are the aforementioned licenses one-timers?

No licenses have been repeated in a home version. That includes Konami covers (Touch is covered by Sana, Hone is covered by D-Crew+1, Goonies is covered by Mr. T, and Sailor Moon is covered by Sana). That really really sucks, because Hone and Goonies "R" Fun Enough (I couldn't resist). As well as Hero from 8 (even though there is a nasty 8 button 1/8th note jack on the EX chart), Heidi from 10 (Quiet, I like German music), Anapanman from 11, and there is a very high chance that Crayon Shin-Chan won't be repeated. (period). There were 2 instances where there were licenses cut (6 and 8, but the cut licenses from 6 appeared in Best Hits (unless if those licenses are unlocks)).

What IS trauma punk considered, anyways? It somewhat reminds me of Curry (musically). And why isn't it on a Popn OST?

Well I recieved PoMu 12 in the mail last Tuesday (from eBay for a nice price of 57 bucks) and played a bit. I enjoyed it of course but there are quite a number of things with 12 which makes it so much different than previous releases that struck me in the wrong ways. Examples include:

1. Less import friendly than ever! This has the most Japanese text in it on everything from graphic font overlays to stat information (i. e. Taisen Mode). Must be due to the Asian theme for this release.
2. Only one new song from Paakittsu (unless there are some more of her songs as unlocks). She's one of my favorite PoMu artist!
3. What's a guy gotta do to find a traditional Arcade mode around here? I just want to play my three songs (where I could pick any difficulty or mod of my choosing), get my final score, and attempt whatever method is done to obtain an unlock! Enjoy Mode is somewhat a traditional PoMu but it is like OOOOOOOLD skool PoMu all over again; there are no mods, slim song pickings, and only one difficulty so I don't really "enjoy" Enjoy Mode. Taisen Mode is hard to grasp at first (I had to mess with it for a few minutes) and brings back the most of what was missing from Enjoy Mode but it's still not the traditional Arcade Mode that I was looking for. Too much of going through menus and trudging through text just to get to a fixed difficulty of one song of my choosing while my rivals pick two others which may be a sucky song pick.

But some things struck me the right way:
1. Request mode. Many of these songs are my favorites, too! It makes me feel good that the gamers in the land of the rising sun has the same taste in PoMu's music as I do!
2. The minigames are simple but challenging, especially the pose game. Konami should make a whole game of that! jk E15.gif
3. EVA and Cha-la Head Cha-la. Need I say more?
4. The unlock system is easy and straightforward again! Haven't seen an easy unlock like this since PoMu 8! Take that Gambler Z CS, Pray to the Heavens, and Pon'n Tourist mode (which was actually decent)!
5. Songs are now previewed on the music select screen (only done on the animelo releases, IIRC). I kind of miss the suspense of not knowing what the song is gonna sound like before you play it for the first time, though.
6. The faux, sugary sweet, English children voices are gone (the new ones are a tad annoying though)!

I'm still early into the game but my main beef is the aforementioned lack of a traditional arcade mode. Even with that noted, this is by far the best Pop'n Music released.

Bullshit. Beat Pop is no better or worse to play on than regular Pop. Anyone that says you suck for playing on Beat Pop is a moron. It's just like a person saying someone sucks for playing Cel on In The Groove. It's an elitist point of view, and I suggest you drop it before someone gets pissed and decks you for it.

Yeah, the PnM8 and lower version of Beat Pop was definitely kinda weird-looking.

Sorry if this has been asked before but I was wondering what the difference was between a normal pnm koc and a Pop'n Music Controller 2 koc? Is the second just like version 2.0 or something?

Hey you're right. If I turn off the ojyamas, it plays like ant other PoMu game but it makes the game more fun when you turn some of the ojyamas on. I always took Challenge Mode for granted in all the previous releases but now it's time to go back and play my other PoMus on Challenge Mode to see what Omakes I've missed.

its also the only way to unlock some of the ex charts. if you get challenge points up to a certain level, you get to play any ex chart you like, then it is unlocked for the rest of the game. you dont need to pass. im not sure of all of the numbers, but some of the lower ones are 94, 98, and 104.

Toys 'n' Joys (www.toysnjoys.com) did have a few, but that was quite awhile ago. Still, you could get lucky.

For some more Pop 'n' Music fun on the go, you could also pick up the fairly entertaining Pop 'n' Music GB for the Game Boy Color. Not quite as good as the Beatmania GB Trilogy was, but fun nonetheless.

I'll have to take a look. E1.gif

I've actually never played the game before, but it looks like a lot of fun so I'm looking for ways to play it without importing the PS2 game and getting a Japanese PS2 and whatnot. I do have a Game Boy Color, so that's cool. Would I need a Japanese GBC to play it though?

EDIT: Found the GBC version on eBay- for $74. Apparantly it's very rare. I found GBC beatmania for a more reasonable price and a handheld beatmania game, similar the the pop 'n' music handheld. I also came across a GBC version of DDR that has a snap on arrow controller. E1.gif

i played pop'n for the first time last week and fell in love with it (not suprising since i play ddr). but i was quite sad when i found out it was only made in japan and the us is stuck playing imports haha. no matter, the game is still great, and i already bought all the parts to make my own popn controller! but i had one question, what is the difference between normal, hyper or EX? is hyper like the song rate multiplied or is it like on ddr 1.5x, 2x ect? or am i way off haha. and the games, are most in all japanese?

hi, glad you like pop'n!

normal, hyper, and EX are the different difficulty levels, much like light, standard, and heavy in ddr. and all the later games (popn7 and up) are almost entirely in japanese.

So if I play IIDX, and I started playing popn, would it still be really hard to start playing popn?
