I'm in a debate about either getting the CF w/ the arcade mod or the Blueshark w/ a bar. The CF has great durability (from what I have heard) and sensitivity, but the blueshark has the bar and an arcade-like sensor setup. For playing w/ my PS2 setup, I don't need the Blueshark's bar, because I already have one (the foot board for my bed), but for my StepMania setup (w/ arcade judgement) I do, so the Blueshark would come in handy. When bringing my setup, the Blueshark has the bar, but from what I hear it is very heavy (but does the bar come off?). If I get the CF, I don't know if I have the time and effort to make a bar for it, so this is my plan.
If I get the CF, I might order a Blueshark bar and attach it to my CF in a way that is removable. If I am told this cannot work, what should I use to make a bar (that is removable of course)?
If I get the Blueshark, how long is it's projected lifespan, and what should I do to make moving it around easier?
Thanks in advance! |
Re-quoting because the question still stands. However, I have learned the blueshark bar cannot attach to the CF, but I really want a bar for bringing my setup to other places as well as for StepMania. However, I won't be able to make one for my CF (no tools, no expertise, no help, and I'm only 14). So I'm leaning a bit towards the Blueshark.

I remember reading someone's post here about how the Blueshark was a piece of crap and how it fell apart quickly.
If you want a bar with a CF, just use a chair. If you can find one that's the right height, it'll work just as well.
Edit: (regarding the Blueshark)
Alezay wrote: | We're returning ours. For numerous reasons.
1) Most of the screws on the pad were stripped, meaning we couldn't take all the panels off to inspect them.
2) All of the screws on the pad were overtightened, making dents in the metal. Looks bad.
3) Corner brackets around the pad all messed up.
4) Bolts on the inside of the pad were missing, giving the screws in some brackets nothing to connect too, making loose brackets which squaked and clanked with every smash of an arrow.
5) The bar is just horrible. Weld is bad, the bar doesn't fit snugly into the holes it goes into.
6) Pad was really filthy when we first opened the package. Kind of like it had been sitting in a barn before they packaged it.
7) Oversensitivity of the sensors made arrows trigger several times which gave random Way Offs and Misses quite frequently.
The list continues. So yeah, the CF is still the way to go. We're returning our Blueshark tomorrow and gettin' our money back. |
And then this:

The wires that go to the buttons on the pad all came out of what looks like what used to be hot glue and now I can't use my pad until they send me another control box......More joy. |

I would go for the cobalt flux. I've read a lot of posts which are basically "should I get X pad or a cobalt flux." Everyone always answers the cobalt flux. The other person's suggestion that you use a chair is a good idea. |

I can't fit a whole chair into my StepMania setup, so that's why I wanted a pad with a bar so I could have a bar for that. The foot board for my bed works fine for my PS2 (which is in my room, obviously), but the SM setup in my room is very cramped. Oh well, the CF it is then! However, i can't get it until I start working this summer (but I do have a $120 head start ). _________________

If you are talking about the blueshark GXG then it is a bad choice for portability since it weighs 85 lbs. The bar works quite well as one could imagine, and the pad doesn't slide around, but...it is a bear to move. |

Yeah...that's why I like the Cobalt Flux. It's heavy duty but you don't have to call a moving company if you need to take it somewhere else. |

I'm in the same predicament as Ra-zor. I started playing DDR less than a year ago and currently I have a foam insert pad at home that I practice on. I'm at that point where I want to attempt the more difficult songs like Max 300 and Paranoia Survivor... so I want to buy a metal pad with a bar. From reading the forum it seems like the Cobalt Flux is the best out there but is no bar with that brand. Should I go with the CF and just deal with not having a bar or should I go with another brand that isn't as durable but has a bar (keeping in mind that I weigh a measly 150lbs)? If I should go for another brand with a bar, what would be the best pad to get? (Portability is not really an issue) _________________

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
I should be getting a Cobalt Flux within the next couple of days
I have an Afterburner now, but the arrows are just way too deep for me, it's too hard to move your feet quickly between arrows on 11+ block ITG songs, and hopefully the Flux will remedy this problem
I'm going to write a review comparing the two, so expect to see a buttload of pictures and videos soon. Now all I have to do is get my hands on that Blueshark pad and I'll be all set |

I have a question regarding the sensitivity of my CF. I got it only a little over 5 months ago, but the arrow sensitivity seems to be diminishing. I'm not sure what the problem is. I unscrewed some of the...uh...screws to get the sheets off (the ones that are attached to the pad when you first open the box) and I'm not sure if I screwed them in too tight or too loose. This may be contributing to the problem, I'm not sure. Either that or I need to clean it, but I don't know how to effectively clean my pad without harming it in anyway. Can anyone help me out? _________________

I've been waiting for some time now for an xbox compatible version of the CF pads, and as it doesnt look like they'll be out anytime soon, I guess it's time to look at other options (I'm down to one remaining modded softpad).
What pad would you all recommend for the xbox user for whom the CF pad is not an option?
Edit: I suppose I'd be able to play on the PC/Powerbook at well, so that's also an option if there's nothing decent for the xbox. _________________

The CF works fine with the Xbox using a $10.00 Innex converter off Ebay. |

i have 4 friends that already have cobalts, and another one is getting one. last friday I ordered a doubles package to replace my afterburner, which amazingly works moderately well after about 6 months, but i'd like to know, does it usually take more or less then about three weeks to get your cobalts? _________________

is the center panel useable in stepmania? I ask because i like both Pump It Up and DDR/ITG and if I can use a CF for PIU aswell, then I wont need 2 different pads. |

I hear the center panel can only be used if you take apart the flux and take out this peice of cardboard. But then you'd have to make your own control box or somethin' like that |

I've played Pump on a CF before. What you have to do is take out the insert on the middle button and then make a new "control box" by wiring it up to a controller. The reason it doesnt work un modded is because the buttons that you use for pump are different and need to be tweaked. look it up on the net. Its not to hard I swear. _________________

Hopefully when they release the V3 (they ARE going to make one, right?) it'll come built for DDR or PIU, with a control box that has a little switch on it that you can flip to switch it from DDR to PIU mode. |

I doubt they will, as there really doesnt seem to be enough demand for pump on a CF to waste money on producing a new control box. _________________
