Well, i decided i thought it would be fun to compare what we run stepmania on, i.e. the specs of your system.

I'm running it on a compaq presario 5000 with windows xp:home edition, 512 MB RAM, 1.5 ghz processer, and a 32 MB Nvidia Vanta video card. Pretty sad stuff(expecially the graphics card) and my PC gets louder than hell when it runs. it really makes me mad.

Anyhow, stepmania itself runs fine as long as i dont have bg videos. it stays around 60 FPS on default settings. The main problem here is my graphics card. I also run it on my moms mac which is much better(cant give exact specs, too lazy to check) but its much easier to transfer all the files and such on a PC.

2.8Ghz Pentium D
Radeon X300
512MB RAM frown.gif

That's all I remember for now, I have everything up to maximum (including Vsync), and I still get great frame rate E13.gif .

Gateway 2000
Windows XP Pro
512 RAM
500 MHZ
Built in audio
Built in video
5.25 gb hd (stepmania only)
3.5 gb hd (OS only)

Runs okay and is super easy and cheap to replace. The only thing is I cant use vids or the frame rate goes to hell. Of course all I do with that machine is SM. I have a secondary comp for my main use that is tons better...

Dell Dimension 2400 frown.gif
2.4 GHz P4
256 MB Ram
Intel Graphics with 64 MB video ram (too lazy to check the model at 4:00 in the morning)
80 GB HDD
Integrated Sound

If I play StepMania with nothing on in the backround, I can get away with 1280x1024 @ 75 at 60 FPS even with backround videos at 60 FPS. Though, 1024x768 is more reliable on my computer, so I use that more.

My currently-less-than-uber-(stupid-X1***-series-ATI-cards) gaming rig:

Pentium 4 2.8 OC 3.06
Some crappy mobo
1 GB DDR400 mem
ATi X850 XTPE 256 MB 600 MHz core, 550 MHz mem
Creative Professional E-MU 0404 DSP sound (24-bit)
3x 300 GB HDDs

XP Pro PE

It was uber a year ago... >.<

Why would you need 900 gigs of storage? That just seems a little excessive. Ive been able to comfortably run on 30 gigs for 5 years now without having to delete stuff for space.

Stuff. I do audio editing so WAVs take a lot of space.

(specs suck because it's a 6-year-old machine)
Dual-boot: Ubuntu Linux (with KDE installed) / Windows XP Professional
700MHz
16 gig NTFS partition, 14 gig ext partition
256mb ram
nVidia TNT2 AGP

Machine I just built some time last year to replace my aging 733-MHz Pentium III:

Epox EP-9NPA+ Ultra mobo
Athlon 64 3200+
1 GB DDR400 RAM
250 GB Seagate SATA Hard Drive
Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS
ATI Radeon X800XL, 256 MB RAM, PCI-Express (I've been thinking about replacing this with an NVidia 7900GT, but thinking about it all I've been doing.)
Windows XP Pro

It plays Stepmania CVS really really well for the most part, locked at 75 FPS with Vsync on because of my LCD monitor, but will go over 300 if I turn Vsync off. I need a new cooler for the CPU, though. The processor temperature tends to go up a good 10 degrees while I'm playing and when it reaches 40 degress C or higher, Stepmania tends to start dropping inputs. Videos are problematic sometimes, too. >_< It might be a bug in CVS, I haven't played a non-CVS build in a long time.

Dual Core Athlon 64 4800+
Nvidia GeForce 7800 GTX w 1920x1200 16:10 LCD monitor.
200GB Raid 0 SATA
2GB RAM
Audigy 2 ZS
XP 64 bit

(Ok, it's my laptop, so it's the 7800 GO GTX, and the PCMCIA Audigy 2 ZS, but still).

I also run a Dual Core P4 3.2GHz, 4GB RAM, 1.2TB (Raid 5). That's the machine I've got slated to go into my DDR Arcade Cabinet.

I also play StepMania on my iPod photo E1.gif
