It's really a matter of personal preference, just like speed mods. I consider it not like cheating, but like playing any type of game and putting it on easy or medium rather than hard. I personally like the challenge of no bar and find it more fun, and only compare myself to those who dont use it as well. Also, I'm not half as impressed with an accoplishment if a bar is used. |

i think if youre doing light and standard songs you should never use the bar. the bar should be for 10 and really hard 9 stars |

I only use the bar for high foot Standard songs and Heavy. I guess if someone has never played before and they're on Light or Beginner, maybe they feel they need to use the bar as a precaution, but they really don't have to. Nor do they have to go back to the center every time, which I have seen many beginners do.
Without the bar on harder songs, I have major leg problems due to playing on my toes, and my legs literally give out towards the end of the song and I have to push myself to finish. I think the bar is there to prevent these types of issues. It's also there for crazy freestylers. |

I use the bar for 10's and hard 9's....They really don't need to, but if they feel like they must, nobody should tell them any differently. And i don't get freestyle. It looks cool and all but most freestyler's freestyle on light and they're usually not that fast (they can't do heavy). But i don't know, that's just my interpretation. Feel free to correct me if i'm wrong. (i know i do it to other people lol) _________________

I'll usually use it for 9s and 10s, and once I reach the 3-4 hour point of playing (That's how dead my arcade is most of the time.) I'll starting using it for a few 8s as well. |

I only use the bar when I'm lazy or really tired. I actually can't use it worth a damn on most 10 footers. I very, very, very rarely use it for an entire song though. |

I am utterly surprised in how much we can talk about the bar. Here are the facts.
No one is going to eat your children if you don't use the bar
No one is going to eat your children if you use the bar
Here's some other cool facts.
No one, not even Pickles, has broken world records such as Vertex^2's or Bloodrush's without the bar. Once you master the skill of using the bar, it will make scoring easier.
Is it cheating? Not really. I mean, it is there and all the high ups use it.
Does this mean you have to use it? No. If you want to, cool, if you don't want to, cool.
The bar is always behind you, do with it what you will.
There, I just said all that is possible to say in this discussion. _________________

I could imagine my response to that...
Me: *goes to a random song, say TLoM Light, and gets ready to use the bar*
Friend person: Hey! No using the bar on anything but Heavy 9 footers and above! Can't you read the sign!?
Me: Hey. Listen. I paid (Insert price of a round here) of MY money. You, whether you work here or not, have no right to tell me how to play a game that I paid for. If YOU paid for it, that's different. It'd be like saying, "No button mashing on (insert fighting game here)" or "No using rocket launchers in (X game with rocket launchers as an uberweapon)" My money, MY rules. Suck it up. *plays the song with the bar, then gets the manager*
Manager: What's the problem?
Me: (X person) tried to stop me from using the bar on the DDR Extreme machine. I felt rather put off by that.
Manager: *goes and scolds the friend person for possibly scaring off customers*
Win.
Of course, that's just how I feel. If you pay your own cash, you shouldn't be limited on what you can do whilst playing(As long as it's not crazy, like spilling soda on the pads or something stupid like that...) If the guy doesn't like the bar being used, tell him to take it out of the machine, if possible.
Summary: They pay. Let 'em play their way. You don't have to like it. But there's no reason to ostracize them for using what they like/want to use/need. Some play one way, others play in other ways. Nobody has the right to try to force someone to conform to one playstyle, or punish/make fun of/exclude those who don't. Also, for the record... I'd be just as impressed by someone AAAing something w/ the bar as w/o. The person used what worked.
Closing: If you like using the bar, by all means use it, whether on Light, Heavy, Standard, Beginner, or Oni(Challenge). Don't try to force others to use it, though. If you don't like the bar, that's your business. No need to belittle those who do. 'Nuff said.

P.S. I am well aware that there are factions of Barrers and nonbarrers. I'm sorta neutral, so don't try to drag me in. I'm only here to try to assist in DEFEATING the flamewar-ish thing.

So yea, Begginer, Light, Standard, Bar Huging (I use hugging not raping) Should not be done. At first I couldnt even use the bar... it through me off. I played and became good without it. I only use it now for songs such as LoM Heavy/Oni. Paranoia 290, or suvivor. Heavy/Oni. Or if I've been playing so long my legs are sore. and i end up playing with some kid who wants to do something like Witch Doctor which just doesnt want to end. and i get tired before the end. _________________

Another comment... I don't like low difficulty bar hugging, but I agree. You shouldn't be able to put up a sign like that... I just let people bar hug, and let them have their fun, then go play on my turn however i so choose.
btw - Bar hugging is a way of getting through something you just cant do without falling over, or if your tired... I still don't understand people who use it full all out. But either way, their money so watev. _________________

without the bar, i look ridiculously stupid. with the bar, i look awkward.
first i didn't use it, all the way up to 8 footers. then i realized i needed it to pass 9+ songs. then i'd try those songs without the bar all the time.
my sis keeps telling me i'll hurt my wrist with the bar.....i wonder if there's a way to make an ergonomic bar..XD |
