Hey guys,

Lately Ive been having a problem with my dance pad that I bought on Ebay, Im not sure its a company made pad but it had been working perfectly for almost 2 years now. I really like playing DDR and Id like to know if anyone can help me fix this problem im having...the up arrow on my pad stopped working frown.gif..all the other arrows are working fine, I dont know what to do to fix my up arrow, I messed around with it one time by opening the pad and fiddling with stuff and it started working for about 20 minutes. Everyone I've asked either didnt want to help or didnt know what to do. If I missed any crucial information that is needed to resolve my problem just let me know.

Best Regards!

Is it a metal or a softpad? If you don't know the name, try taking pictures then maybe we can help out.

BTW, you're really, really lucky to have a pad thats worked for 2 years off ebay.

I might be able to help, can I just ask:-

1. When you say the UP arrow isn't working, what do you mean? Is it not responding? Or is it 'constantly held down'? Or is it "ghosting" (ie rapidly firing when you're not touching it)

2. Does the pad use microswitches (ie when you remove the plastic arrow, did you see three or four little buttons underneath it?)

and btw I second that you ARE very lucky to have an ebay pad last 2 years!

It appears to be what they call on ebay, the ninja.

I'd say you probibly killed one of the foil sensors. That's people mod them. Open up the pad, and take a picture of the sensors that don't work. If they look a bit warped, thats probibly your problem.

If not, it's probibly just because it was its time.

Those pads only last a little while.

I was thinking about getting one step above those, the Blade pads, that have metal arrows. Then sheet metal modding it.

LOL laugh.gif . I hate to say this, but I don't think you know what you are talking about. I now know alot about metal pads cause I built my own AND I used to have a tx10000 which I had to fix almost every day, and that is NOT a ninja. This is:
http://cgi.ebay.com/XBOX-PS2-PC-USB-Metal-Dance-Revolution-DDR-Ninja-PAD-NR_W0QQitemZ8281515064QQcategoryZ41017QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

They also make those "ninjas" (actually called tx150 I think) with a bar.

This is your pad... well actually, your pad is probably a rip off of this pad, but that doesnt matter...too much
http://www.mymybox.com/ddrmx2200.html

Anyways, the problem is either...
A. Broken wire
B. Broken copper strip (Pretty much the same thing as a broken wire, but probably not the problem)
C.Bad control box (thing with the start and select button if you didn't know)
It's most likley A or C

So take off your up arrow panel, and take a peak inside. Let me TRY to explain how the arrow works, but if you don't understand it, it probably won't matter TOO much.... There is the circuit board thing with 2 main copper strips on it which have many branches, which makes the circuit board just look like a lot of parallel lines. For the button to register, the foil on the bottom of the panel has to touch BOTH of the copper strips (basically, the foil connects the 2 main sides. Each side connects to its own wire which connects to the control box. There will be more than 2 wires leading into the arrow if your arrows light up When the control box realizes the 2 sides are connected, the arrow is activated. I don't know if I made any sense what so ever. biggrin.gif

So basically, just look at the wires which should connect to the bottom of the circuit board thing and make sure they are connected well. If there is a break, solder it. There might also be a break in one of the 2 main copper strips. If you see any, carefully solder it.

If everything is fine in there, get a new control box. I have no clue how to fix a malfunctioning control box, so don't try. They are pretty cheap.

I hope you kinda understood what I told you about how each arrow works. I f you didn't, it probably doesnt matter. Just fix broken wires or get a new control box.

i'm assuming it uses the cheap foil on the arrow // copper contact on the base.

if that is the case, you can either go the cheap way, or pay a little more.

cheap way = buy some aluminum foil tape.

better way = buy sheet metal and cut it up accordingly (this way nothing rubs onto the copper contact.)

best way = redesign the contact system by disconnecting the wires from the copper contact, and doing an arcade-like sensor design. this will get you better sensitivity obviously.

if this isn't the case, just tell me. i have one of the tx-1000's, and previously i had a "cyphergames" pad that looked similar to that (different colors, no border, but pretty much same base.)

i'm getting ready to mod my tx-1000 (replace arrows with lexan arrows, re-route the contact wires to give the arcade-feel, and sheet metal)

just my two cents on aluminum foil tape...watch out for the low quality ones that "powder" off after frequent contact.
