The people who play no bar at my arcade suck balls and look like douche bags when they play. They'd look much less lame on the bar, as oppossed to waving their arms trying to stay balanced. _________________

At my arcade, random parents come up and tell you to "let go of that thing!"
If you play no bar, you should just not suck at it. _________________

Rant as regards ITG PS2:
What the christ is up with the terrible, awful, horribly unintuitive menu for the Practice Mode? There's some cool options in there, but I shouldn't have to wade through what seems like 8 menus (And wait three seconds between the time I hit "start" to access another menu and the time the menu pops up) to get to them. >_<
Oh yeah. *mumbles something about the Way Off window while he's at it* _________________

I disagree.
Have you ever wondered why some people draw crowds and others who are equally talented do not?
Appearance.
Kyle Ward looks stupid when he plays, but he's pretty good (I would hope so)
Kevbo DOESN'T look stupid, along with most of the ITG finalists. Except obviously for Tj3 (sorry dude, you're too big lol)
So, I think only certain people truly look stupid on the game. _________________

There's a wide variety of things that bring crowds in. I play equally with the bar and without the bar depending on how I feel and what I'm playing, and I've drawn equal-sized crowds regardless - many of them respectably-sized. The same could be said in my area for both bar players and non-bar players.
Curiousity is the primary factor. If someone walks by and sees a person doing a stationary seizure on top of a metal platform (which is - bottom line - what it looks like if you play stuff like Hardcore of the North, Euphoria, Summer, etc. Expert, whether you're good at the songs; whether you use the bar or not), they're going to want to turn around and see why they're doing it.
And naturally, a crowd of people often begets a larger crowd of people. If you're walking by and see a bunch of people watching something, it's just human nature to see WHAT they're looking at.
The location and time are also major factors. If you play on a weedend in a mall arcade, you'll very likely get a huge crowd of gawking people who are simply browsing from store to store and have nothing better to do. They're looking for a good time (or at least some distraction from their errands), and therefore they're more susceptible to interesting diversions.
If you play during a weekday in a dedicated arcade, you'll probably get a much smaller group of people, because the people that are there are either gamers or parents. The gamers usually are either waiting their turn to play or are busy playing something else. Unless you're doing something REALLY interesting, they're not going to give you the time of day, in all likelihood. The parents - if they're decent parents - are too concerned with their kids, who are probably very small. And while they might give you a passing glance, they'll just as likely be dragged off by their child(ren) within a few seconds.
The most important thing is, PLEASE don't kid yourself. No matter how good you are or how you play, you do NOT look graceful playing ITG. Whether you're leaning forward and "flailing your arms trying to keep your balance" (which is an unfair statement, many non-bar players don't move their arms at all), or leaning back and grasping a hunk of metal, you're still going to look like some weirdo bandying your legs about. You really, really, REALLY, don't look graceful or coordinated.
Don't believe me? Check out some of the high-end videos on the Internet featuring top-notch players, both WITH and WITHOUT the bar. THEY look ridiculous if you don't know what you're looking at. Check out some of the best freestyle routines on ITG/DDR/PUI (all of which are rare now with the decreased emphasis on freestyling). THEY look ridiculous, as well. And then, get someone to record YOU playing and watch it. I've done it, and I look ridiculous, too. I've never seen anyone that DIDN'T look at least somewhat strange when they play DDR or ITG, because it's not in the nature of the game.
You look ridiculous playing ITG, I look ridiculous playing it, everyone looks ridiculous playing it. You can't NOT look strange playing a game like this, so stop trying. _________________

At my arcade, it's sort of the extreme of that.
There are usually two types of people that play: the dedicated hardcore "good" players and the new people who have never seen the game before or aren't that good yet.
It's an arcade at a tourist attraction, that's why.
A lot of people are more interested in seeing the good players play and they all use the bar. They watch us because they're amazed at how we can hit that many arrows that fast. They don't care that we're using the bar. They're amazed on how fast our legs and feet can move. Lol.
Basically, my local arcade actually debunks your theory because no one really watches the no-bar players or the newbies cause they're very much like themselves. They're all tourists that are new to the game. If not, they're still new to the game. _________________

It's not a theory. I'm sorry to break it to you, but they really don't notice whether you're holding the bar or not. I know you love to tell yourself that, but it's not true. Other than seeing that you're not failing and are getting things called "Fantastics," passers-by don't know if you're doing good. They don't know what qualifies as "Good," and what isn't that good, because they haven't played the game.
You already wrote yourself into the corner when you said two things: first, you said that they're impressed that you're hitting the arrows so fast. Second, you said that ALL of the good players in your arcade that meet said prerequisite use the bar. Therefore, you can't say for CERTAIN that if a really good no-bar player were to come into your arcade and start dominating on Energizer Expert that he wouldn't draw the SAME - or similar - crowds.
All I've heard so far are rash generalizations and virtually no substance other than "No-bar players flail about, bar players look composed," which in and of itself is ridiculous. And as a whole the theory is flawed because - as you said yourself - people are watching your FEET, not the upper half of your body. _________________

<Random ITG Rant>
Yesterday, I had my very first experience with one of Namco's notorious "Crapocab" ITG2 machines. Ugh, these things are every bit as bad people say they are. The pads felt really bad, like the panels were gonna give way at any moment, and the sensors needed serious work. I couldn't even break a 90% in 3 games, at which point I gave up. The screen was awful. It needed geometry adjustment and had a weird greenish hue at the bottom. I also made the stupid mistake of trying to use my memory card in the machine and ended up crashing the game. The bars were really loose. You could actually push them back and forth, and it seemed like they would just snap off if I looked at them the wrong way. For some reason, the select button was blue instead of green, and was rotated 90 degrees so it was vertical. Above the buttons, there was a sharp, metal edge running along the bottom of the screen, and the marquee around the screen said, "Here we come!" Blech, about the only good thing I can say about this thing is the pads weren't quite "TX-2000-stuck-in-an-arcade-cabinet" bad, like the US DDR EX CS cabinets Namco had before. Probably one of my least enjoyable dance game sessions ever.

Ive played on a crap-o-cab, when you hit the pads they rattled so bad, it was pretty certain that if i played a couple more sets that it would have definatly exploded in my face. _________________

Most other 11s and 12s are faster in bpm. Except charlene, but that has a million mines, which is what is probably throwing you off. Try clockwork genesis, its hardly an 11 when it comes to stamina. _________________

I have a double rant, because even though this thread is retarded, I have ranting to do.
One. I hate how missing one arrow in a long 16th stream will completely frick you over. My example today is Bloodrush. I had a gold combo going into the slowdown playing Bloodrush, then I pivoted to the down arrow one step too late on the slowdown's run. Because I was, in fact, still within the 1st arrow's decent window while I was hitting the 2nd arrow within the Fantastic window, I got the Decent on the 1st arrow when I was hitting for the 2nd. This continued until I pivoted off the down arrow, and I went from around 20ex to 20ex and a handful of bullshit that killed my run. That's one of the dumbest things that happens, and it's not uncommon on some of the faster streaming songs.
Two. I really, really, REALLY hate it when a certain DDR site has an ITG forum. Especially because this ceratin site's members have an average IQ of 5, and that's only so high because of the 10 people (mostly from Southern California, with a handful somewhere in the Mid-Atlantic coast. EDIT: And Caffy is cool too. And apparently some NW people. I'll take his word for it) who can think at a fairly competant level and speak English and use proper grammar without hiding behind spell check and the dictionary. It's like being trapped in a swarm of undying stupidity, and yet I find myself drawn back there again and again to read the new posts. Unfortunately, that's usually because I end up needing to back up a few of my friends (the ones who have the brainpower).
There should be an IQ test required before joining this site. And spelling. Seriously. _________________

This is even more common with way offs, since the way off window is like 10 minutes wide for some reason. They should put in a check somehow that if a step falls into two different arrows' judgements, the one that's highest gets priority.

Every forum has idiots, you can't avoid that. Instead, just sit back and laugh at them. You know that you are smarter, so there is no need for a battle. Let them eviscerate their position by simpy talking.
I rather enjoy reading idiotic posts, it brings a good laugh. _________________
