Good job decompiling my app and copy/pasting my code. Ask for permission next time and mention in your program it is based on my code and maybe ill be fine with it.

I tried the no-PCK hack. The game started beautifully, but no key presses registered. When I checked Keymaps.ini, none of the lines had keys associated with them (i.e., all the lines ended in '='). Any ideas?

I fixed that by changing the line LastSeenInputDevices to (in Preferences.ini):
LastSeenInputDevices=X11,joystick

Itg now detects something is wrong and automaps your keyboard. (Maybe joystick too, dunno)

OK, tried that; when it started, it informed me that it was auto-unmapping my joystick, but nothing else. No changes from previous -- HOWEVER, I was wrong before.

It was (and is) detecting some key presses. The arrow keys will cycle through the various intro thingies (instructions, roxor logo, etc), as well as enter the tutorial mode seemingly randomly. Holding the F3 key brings up an options menu with:

F6 in gameplay - AutoSync - off
F7 in gameplay - Assist Tick - off
Key 1 - Rendering Stats - off
Key 2 - Vsync - on
Key 3 - Multitexture - on
up - Volume up (100%)
down - Volume down
Uptime - (counts seemingly accurately)

EDIT: The 8-step instructions say to name the index file "pcks.idx", where ITG PC installs a file named "pck.idx". Also related to the index is that beta2 doesn't install one at all. Are you using beta2 or beta1?

Of note, I did successfully put another song in the Songs subfolder of the folder I pointed "AdditionalFolders" to. Specifically, it's in Songs/Originals - rrwoods/songname. The reason I know it works is that when I use the arrow keys to cycle through the various screens (as described above), sometimes the "demonstration" that gets played is the song I added, with the correct Easy steps.

EDIT 2: Trying with beta2 anyway.

Update on Group Sort: Well I didn't realize, because im retarded, that there is no real way to get there to be the sub folder sorts as its not innate to the ITG theme (ie. if you do a expertmetersort it doesn't split it up into 9, 10, 11 etc it just lists em in order unlike on the arcade machine). DESPITE that, I have managed to get it to default to group sort, so each group is sorted seperately, alphabetically but on the same wheel. You can get them all to be different colors by changing the metrics file in ps2itg-reduced very easily. I also can't get Group to show up on the sort select wheel, so if you change the sort, you can't go back to the group sort. That's about the best I have going right now. If you have any information that you think can help or want to know how to do it I'd rather explain on IM (edgar131) or something.

You probably need to repack the new files into a PCK-file. From what I know there is no public release of such a program. I could make one and release it as soon as I have time.
No you don't. Its actually really easy.

I'm going to use somebody else's tutorial for this.

Anyway, I've managed to get the ITG demo to work without any PCKs. Note: you must have run the ITG demo prior to doing this, because you need a Preferences.ini to modify. Obviously, you need the PCK unpacker.

1. Extract all of the PCK files anywhere.
2. Move ALL of the PCK files, and pck.idx, out of the pcks directory. You can delete them, but I'd keep them around just as a backup.
3. Open the Preferences.ini in your My Documents\In The Groove Demo\Save directory.
4. If there isn't an "[Options]" section, create one (I think that there is, but I could be wrong). Under that section, add a line that says "AdditionalFolders=C:\Path\To\Extracted\Files", replacing "C:\Path\To\Extracted\Files" with the directory where you extracted the PCKs (obviously...).
5. In the "pcks" directory of the ITG demo, create a text file called "pcks.idx". You can make this file in Notepad, Object Edit, or whatever.
6. (THIS STEP IS VITAL) Type "PCKI" (sans quotes) into the text editor, save the file, and exit your editor.
7. Just to be safe, rename the Static.ini file (it's in the Data directory, with your extracted data) to something else. It shouldn't read that file at all, but it's best to be sure.
8. Run ITG demo and smile with pride you 1337 h4><0r, you!

Your Preferences.ini will be adapted into a fully blown StepMania.ini, giving you the ability to adjust the timings, etc. If you want to make it a more "true" ITG experience, copy some of the bits and pieces from Static.ini into the Preferences.ini file, since by default ITG: PC reverts to the StepMania judge 4 timings and a really strange grading scale (99.XX% quad star, anyone?).

One final note: I had already frick around with my copy of ITG demo before the unpacker came out (basically, I made it so that it couldn't see static.ini), so I already had a full INI to work with. If the above steps don't work (they should), let me know and I'll upload my Preferences.ini somewhere.

I am having no luck unpacking the PCK files of the ITG demo.

Come to think of it, why try to run the demo with no PCKs? Wouldn't it be easier to try a repack, or is pck.idx that hard to figure out? (Note that I haven't tried, so I wouldn't know.)

EDIT: Disregard. It's just easier without them anyway.

PLEASE post a link to the script or contact me about it.

oh and Synaesthesia: try thinking really hard about what directory your ITG demo is installed in and look really carefully at what directory your trying to unpack the PCK from. HINT: Program F_____

fine if someone knows how to fix the yellow song and banner problems and the long loading time after finishing a game of 3 songs with almost 10 mix's in the songer folder E13.gif

open up optionsmenu.lua in the themes itg1-reduced folder and find and replace with this

function OptionsRowSort()
local Sorts =
{

"Group",
"Preferred",
"Title",
"BPM",
"Popularity",
"TopGrades",
"Artist",
"EasyMeter",
"MediumMeter",
"HardMeter",
"ChallengeMeter",
}

I did that, but it still doesn't show up on the sort wheel. It also doesn't cause there to be subfolders (ie. I choose In The Groove 1 and then only the ITG1 songs are listed).

edit: if yours does do the above, please upload the script somewhere.
edit2: im talking about the PS2 version not the PC version
final edit: Stop posting crap about the PC version in here...this thread is about the PS2 version. There is a thread on the second page that is about the PC version, for anyone talking about the PC version, please go there.

no, its not the wrong forum, it is contained in Data/ Folder,
but its totally unneeded by ITG Ps2.

At the Moment I am searching for a person who has some spare time to join,
and GOOD Skills at LUA script Language...

- Reverse Engineering, Disassembling some LUA Files (~ 4 files, in total ~30 kb)

- Rebuilding NEW LUA Files from the gained Information with Stuff added / fixed.

Interested Persons please PM me,
thanks!

Alex

This request is still up.

It is not possible to get it 100% working without the rebuild of the LUA Script.

yellow song: probably tracked down and "fixed" (but it's not a bug, its a feature biggrin.gif)

banner problems: which problems exactly?

long loading time: most probably this could be improved with future releases of "PCK Suite" - the main coder said he will resume work on it soon,
but i dont know "how soon2 exactly this will be, but ANY qualified Feedback is welcome!

The Themes/ps2-reduced/scripts/OptionsMenu.lua can not be edited afaik.
Where did you get this piece of code? Are you in any way experienced with LUA?

LUA.exe (5.0) does not recognize this as LUA Script,
the only thing that works, is a luac.exe -list *.lua bytecode disassemble,
where one can read the needed calls.

Fine I'll tell u my secret :-p. Unpack the ITG PC Demo. The lua script in the themes there is almost identical to the one on the ps2 game, ive replaced the one on the ps2 game with the one from the demo with modifications and it works. I can only get the default sort to be group though, and it still doesn't split with subfolders, its just everything is on the wheel by group in alphabetical order seamlessly.

Rodent: He got that piece of code from the PC versions LUA script because he thought i was talking about the PC version.

System.IO.DirectoryNotFoundException: Could not find a part of the path "C:\Program\In The Groove Demo\pcks\DF968706.PCK".

Synaesthesia: This error message means you got the wrong path.... I can see from the other errors you posted its actually supposed to be: "C:\Program Files\In The Groove Demo\pcks\DF968706.PCK"
Change that line in the extractor and it should work.
